GIVE Bognor Regis Town Hall back to the town, a re-elected councillor has urged. Cllr Jim Brooks is the longest-serving Independent member of Arun District Council. He has just begun his 13th year representing Marine ward. Independent members have taken on a new prominence in Arun after eight, all from the Bognor Regis area, were elected earlier this month. meeting on Wednesday. Outside the session, Cllr Brooks (Marine) said he wanted the new council, with no overall control, to look at returning the town hall to Bognor Regis. "I would like to see Bognor Regis Town Council taking on the town hall. I think it should be given to us. We need to keep hold of our town hall. It’s the seat of our area, which is getting bigger and bigger every year.

“We need to keep our heritage and have our own meeting place. "We need to investigate how the town hall could be gifted back to Bognor Regis. It is meant to be the town hall. It would be quite difficult for it to be anything else. “Bognor Regis is expanding and it deserves to have control of its town hall. It’s an important, iconic building and it’s in the right place. “It can be reached by bus, it has parking

next door, it is in the town centre and it’s close to the seafront." THe town hall's foundation stones were laid 90 years ago this week. THe Clarence Road building became the civic centre for the Bognor Regis Urban District Council until 1974. THe council was abolished in a national shake-up and the town hall was transferred to Arun.
