New report reveals flood risk TWO ROADS of Pagham homes could be swept away by flooding, a new report warns.

THe draft management plan for the coastline from the village to the River Arun says the housing will be at risk before 2037.

THe Arun District Council document has been issued for public consultation and says the seafront is constantly being altered because of erosion.

THis has been caused by the growth of the Church Norton Spit, which has pushed tides on to the beach and scoured away its shingle.

“In the immediate short-term, it’s difficult to predict potential losses, especially as recent events have dramatically changed the area.

“However, what is clear is that the beaches directly affected by the growing of the spit have seen the loss of up to 20m

of crest width over as little as three years.

“If this rate of erosion was allowed to continue without intervention, Arun would have expected to lose 12-15 properties between 2013-16.

“With this in mind, the prediction of homes lost to erosion with no further maintenance has been estimated at 30 homes within the next five years and possibly all of West Front Road and East Front Road within 20 years,” it says.

As reported, the Pagham Flood Defence Steering Group has an approved plan to cut a channel in the spit to restore the entrance to Pagham Harbour and take the tides away from the beach.

THe district council’s plan says it wants to carry out four phases of work along the shoreline from Pagham and the River Arun in keeping with a strategy of ‘hold the line – sustain’ as the sea level rises.

New A29 deal is agreed by council IMPROVED journeys for thousands of Bognor Regis motorists have moved closer.

An agreement has been reached to enable formal financial work to begin on a new A29.

THe road will include a bridge over the Coastway West railway line to replace the Woodgate level crossing, which is a source of frustration for many residents in the nearby Five Villages.

THe decision to enter into a memorandum of understanding with West Sussex County Council was agreed

by Arun District Council’s cabinet.

THis will enable the two local authorities to jointly develop a business case to build a new section of the key road between Bognor Regis and the A27.

THe stretch of highway will be about 6km long and is expected to cost some £40m. Funding is expected to come from a variety of sources. THe Coast 2 Capital local enterprise partnership has committed £13m until 2021.

Cllr John Charles (C Barnham), cabinet member for planning, told Monday’s meeting: “THe A29 is vital. It is the biggest thing we have in the local plan. Without it, we will not get the housing started. We have got to have the road first.”

THe county council is the highways authority and Arun is responsible for planning. It has long earmarked the Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate area for up to 3,000 homes.

Negotiations with the developers to partly pay for the new A29 were also given the go-ahead by the cabinet.

Arun director of place Karl Roberts said: “THe memorandum of understanding will formalise the processes that we are working on with the county council.

"It will help us when we seek financial contibutions towards the delivery of the A29 realignment.

“It will show that we are committed to the delivery of this piece of infrastructure. It is the most expensive piece of infrastructure which will be delivered as part of the local plan process subject, of course, to the local plan being confirmed by the inspector.

“THere is the perception that the railway crossing doesn’t help the economy. It’s more perception than reality.

“But, certainly, having a new road which crosses over the railway line – which means they don’t have to wait at the level crossing - will help businesses in terms of getting from place to place.”

THe route of the new A29 going south will leave the current road just south of Eastergate Lane, swing east and then south, cross over Barnham Road, go through some of the proposed housing, cross over the railway line, go over the old canal route and bypass the Shripney bends before it re-joins the current route around Sack Lane.

“THere will possibly be a number of spur roads off it to link back into the existing A29. One could be just south of the existing railway line around Woodgate and north of the railway line.

"THat will help not only the new community but the existing one as well," he added.

PRAM race fun is back in Pagham on Boxing Day. Dozens of pairs of entries will take to the streets for the traditional Christmas fun. THe 72nd of the races will start at 11am from outside Nyetimber Mill in Pagham Road and will follow the usual route to Sea Lane, THe Parade and back via Harbour View Road.

Along the way, contestants will sink pints of beer outside THe Lion, THe Lamb and the Beach Cafe before they finish back at THe Lamb.

Race committee president Derek Bell, the motor racing legend, will continue his involvement by being present on the

rostrum to commentate and meet the winners.

THe race comes after the committee raised more than £1,200 with its grand Christmas draw in Pagham Church Centre. A total of 114 prizes were won, from £250 to a wooden spoon.

Mike Warren, the race's chairman, said: "THe support shown this year for our fundraising has been wonderful.

Each year gets better and better.

f Leapy Lee enjoys a good read before his performance SIXTIES pop star Leapy Lee delighted his fans with a special performance in Bognor Regis.

THe singer achieved pop success in 1968 with Little Arrows and was delighted to be the special guest at the Laburnum Centre’s Christmas dinner.

Leapy Lee, also known as Lee Graham, entertained the 90 diners with a mixture of sixties songs and country numbers last THursday.

His appearance arose because of a friendship he forged with the head of community activities at the centre, Gary Hardley, when Gary ran bars and clubs in Majorca where Leapy Lee lives.

Gary said: “I lived in Majorca for 11 years and Leapy used to play in my bar.

When I heard he was coming over here, I asked him if he wanted to sing here.

“I knew with the age range we have here, from 50-104, he would be popular and the tickets went straight away after they were put on sale. I could have sold double the number.”

One of those anticipating seeing Leapy Lee was Felpham resident Sheila Rolfe, 72. She said: “I’m looking forward to seeing him. I remember the song, Little Arrows, and it was a good song at the time.”

Leapy Lee, 78, explained how he recorded the single which took him to number two in the British and Australian charts and number eight in Canada.

It also broke into the Top 20 in the US mainstream and country charts.

He said: “I have been in the business since I was 12 with my own band before skiffle. THen, in 1955, rock’n’roll came along and we had to learn new stuff.

“In 1958, I was the lead singer in a rock’n’band at the London Palladium and worked all over the place in pubs, clubs and bars.

“As a singer, you’re always looking for songs and I used to go round music publishers. I walked into one and there was a man standing there looking lost

with a bunch of demos.

“He turned out to be Albert Hammond and he let me have his only copy of Little Arrows when I told him I knew Gordon Mills, the manager of Tom Jones, very well and could get it recorded.

“I took it to Gordon and the rest is history. I thought it was a hit because it was a catchy tune.

“I was told it was a bit ‘square’ but it sold 3.5 million copies, so I don’t care.

“People talk about the song all the time. THat’s really good. It opened up my whole life to me. It’s been my golden key.”

Leapy Lee also reached number 29 in the British chart in 1970 with Good Morning and achieved some lower chart positions around the world with five further songs up to 1975.

He is gearing up for a bumper year in 2018 on the 50th anniversary of the release of Little Arrows.

A special album is being released next year and gigs are being lined up.

A NEW park – and flats – for Bognor Regis has moved a step closer.

Councillors agreed to back the latest design for the Hothamton linear park between Queensway and West Street.

THe decisive vote by Arun District Council’s Bognor Regis regeneration sub-committee means the proposal to redevelop the current park and adjoining sunken garden with the £3.53m proposal will be put to all Arun members next month.

But a warning was given that the design’s 199 parking spaces, compared with the current 215, were too few.

Cllr Paul Wells (LD, Hotham) refused to join the approval of six of the nine recommendations on the agenda. He told the sub-committee last THursday: “Car parking spaces are absolutely critical for the town centre.

“It’s absolutely crucial we maximise them to make sure we maintain as many of them as we can for the wellbeing of the town centre.”

Sub-committee chairman Cllr Phil Hitchins (C, Aldwick W) said the number of spaces had increased from 180 to 199 as the scheme had progressed.

“THe number might well go up a few or down a few before the final design,” he said.

THe scheme has taken ten months since the sub-committee’s decision to consider the creation of a new park.

Landscape architect Rob Beswick said the favoured option, one of two put to the sub-committee would contain a café inside the Queensway entrance,

a play area with a mist/water feature, a performance space of 720sq m, a French-style market square, a ‘green oasis’ with play for all ages and an entrance on to West Street.

“THere are a lot of good experiences we can draw upon to enhance the area through sensitive landscape design,” he said. THe park would be surrounded on both sides by the parking. THe western side would also contain two blocks of flats with commercial premises on their ground floors.

As reported, the health centre land could be included and the subcommittee agreed to bid for the plot if the NHS decided to move.

Cllr Wells said: “THere is a degree of concern within the town about the future provision of the NHS and the health centre. THis council needs to be very mindful of that.”

He also called for any final designs to be brought back to the sub-committee before they were submitted for planning permission.

But Cllr Trevor Bence (C, Aldwick E) said Arun did not want to waste time.

“Every single concept from toilets on the seafront to an iconic tower to moving things around has become congested, stopped and stalled to the point where it has died a natural death. I’m sick to the back teeth of listening to what people want and what they don’t want. THe real issue is money and affordability and this scheme will become unaffordable."

THe option rejected by councillors cost £4.29m because of extra water features.

Public toilets to stay open THREATENED toilets around Bognor Regis are to be saved from shutting.

THe sites in Aldwick, Pagham, Felpham and Bognor Regis will stay open.

A decision by councillors on Tuesday means the well-used loos will instead be improved - even if that means turning them into unisex facilities.

THe unanimous agreement by Arun's environment and leisure working group is set to go to the council's cabinet of senior members in February to be backed and then on to the full council. But the decisions are likely to be formalities and that will enable the previous closure programme to be reversed.

Arun has spent the three months since the loos at Culver Road and Sandy Road were shut for the winter talking to the parish councils for the areas. THose talks have led to them being saved. THe toilets at Shrubbs Field in Middleton and Avisford Park and West Meads in Aldwick were destined for potential closure if a nearby business could not be found top open its loos. THey have also been saved.

In addition, the underground Waterloo Square site on Bognor Regis seafront is to stay open because Arun believes it has commercial possibilities.

Working group member Cllr Paul Wells (LD, Hotham) said he was pleased the toilets had been kept.

“Across the board, it's good we have been able to talk to the parishes about the toilets and get them back on board and how we improve them.

“THe state of some of the public toilets

are pretty appalling in some of the areas and the bits and bobs that go on in them.

“THere are little things like that that can be done to tweak the experience of visitors to the town and residents. We need to up our game on the state of them.

"Bedford Street has a huge problem with drug users. I see some drug users go into the chemist opposite my business and then go into Bedford Street to do what they have to do.

“We need to look at how we can improve the area around there for the public who use those toilets. THe lighting is quite poor at this time of year."

Cllr Jim Brooks (I, Marine) said “THere really needs to be a lot of toilets in town centres and shopping areas, every 3040m if we could do it.

“Civic buildings, like libraries and town halls, should have the community toilets.

“It's about offering a fair amount of money to the public and getting people on board where we need toilets and are missing them.”

Arun greenspace and cleansing manager Oliver Handson said Aldwick Parish Council had agreed to pay £8,000 a year, an extra £700, towards the running costs of the Avisford Park - closed because of vandalism - and West Meads sites. Pagham and Middleton councils would also be asked to confirm similar deals for Sandy Road and Shrubbs Field.

Culver Road in Felpham will be opened all year once Arun has gained planning approval to modernise the toilets. But the nearby Snooks Corner site will close.

Hospice's fun day A FATHER Christmas who has appeared with the pop group Oasis kept children entertained at a Bognor Regis shop's biggest festive celebration.

THe seasonal visitor delighted young visitors to the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice shop with his wave and smile in one of its front windows.

Long before he took the festive role, he appeared in the Britpop group's video of their Wonderwall hit as Kiku the Clown.

Shop manager Jacky Donovan said: "Father Christmas was absolutely amazing with the children. It's the first time we have had Father Christmas here and the first time we have cleared both windows.

Sitting him in the window was really good.

"We had face painting in the other window and all the volunteers, and there were probably 15 of them, dressed up in Christmas outfits.

Joy at Christmas party HUNDREDS of elderly Bognor Regis residents enjoyed Christmas fun thanks to one of the town's Rotary clubs.

More than 300 senior citizens were invited to the latest of the annual festive celebrations held

by Bognor Regis Rotary Club.

THey were welcomed with sherry and mince pies courtesy of the hosts at the Riverside Caravan Centre.

Peter Stemp, the club's press officer, said: "THey were then able to enjoy a show of some two hours."

A rousing start was provided by the troupe from the Arabesque School of Dance & Drama who took the audience on a song-and-dance tour through the year.

THis started with Auld Lang Syne, through April showers, summer holiday, harvest time, autumn leaves and on to Christmas - all with the customary excellence shown in previous concerts.

"THis was a hard act to follow," said Mr Stemp,

"but we were delighted to welcome back comedian Christopher Gee, who rescued us at the last minute by offering his slot as the cruise on which he was due to perform was cancelled.

"He produced stand-up comedy, including an excellent range of amusing impressions, which all went down well with the audience."

THe Bognor Regis Community Choir, under its excellent conductor Emma Eberhardt, then provided a wide range of songs. Some were more well known than others but they were all presented with enthusiasm and expertise.

Ann Gristwood, the organist at St THomas a'Becket Church in Pagham, accompanied the closing two sing-along Christmas carols.

Mr Stemp added: "Our thanks go to all concerned in helping, in particular, the management and staff of the Riverside Caravan Centre, who provided the venue and the mince pies and sherry.

"We look forward to another successful repeat next year."

"We have events three or four times a year but nothing on this scale before.

THe atmosphere was brilliant and Father Christmas has already agreed to come to us again next year."

THe event made a £420 profit towards the running costs of the hospice on top of the usual sales from its stock items.

Helping towards fundraising was a tombola with numerous prizes and two big hampers stuffed with festive goodies.

A volunteer at the London Road shop was also able to win a meal for two at THe Regis thanks to Brewer's Fayre.

THe hospice is 15 years old in 2018 and a group of birthday patrons has been created to mark the anniversary.

THey include pop singer Chesney Hawkes, Paralympic equestrian champion Natasha Baker MBE and Brighton and Hove Albion captain Bruno Saltor.

From page one THe work is intended to be carried out in four phases. THe first is set for next February and March.

THe following phases will take place in October and November 2018 and at the same time in the next two years.

It will consist of shingle recycling, rock placement, re-profiling timber groynes, adjusting beach shapes and improving assets like groynes and sea walls. Without the work, the report predicts thousands of homes in the area – as well as West Front Road and East Front Road – are in danger in the next century.

THe plan states: “THe losses are expected to begin within the next two to three years if no further interventions are carried out, due to the reduced life expectancy of the ‘hard engineered’ assets (such as sea walls). It has been identified through yearly inspections that many of the assets have a life expectancy of less than five years should active management cease.

“It has also identified 2,724 properties will be at erosion risk within the next 100 years without timely intervention.”

THe shoreline management plan has been put out for consultation until January 3, 2018.

It has been prepared to help Arun’s case for £216,000 from the Environment Agency towards the £256,000 cost of the works the council believes need to be carried out.

A spokesman for Arun said: “THe beach management plan will aim to utilise efficient working practices by undertaking beach recycling and recharge activities to extend the life of fixed coastal defence assets and so delay the need for major reconstruction.”

Centre's first seasonal fair

 Santa's final visits SANTA is making his final stops on this year's tour around Bognor Regis.

He will be joined by his helpers from Bognor Hotham Rotary Club at the Tesco store in Shripney Road during the day today and tomorrow.

His last stop will be from 9am1pm on Christmas Eve at Jordan's Butchers in Rose Green.

Festive music and lollies for children will add to the excitement.

Money raised by the Rotarians will go towards the good causes they help in the area. But the visits are subject to the weather.

Staff provide elf service for home said this year was the latest in which it had been involved in Elf Day. "Not only does it help raise awareness about dementia - a disease which affects many of our residents and loved ones - but it also helps to spread some Christmas cheer for our residents.

"Our residents absolutely loved seeing their care staff dressed up for the day and even I was persuaded to join in the fun."

STAFF at a care home in Bognor Regis unleased their inner Christmas elf to help to raise awareness about the fight against dementia.

Employees at Aldwick House Care Home delighted residents by wearing brightly-coloured elf costumes as part of the Alzheimer's Society national Elf Day campaign.

THis special occasion encourages people across the UK to raise both funds and awareness about one of the main causes of disability in later life.

In honour of the day, and the elves' appearance, the Nyewood Lane home organised a day of festive fun and games for some Christmas enjoyment.

A STEADY stream of families went along to the first Christmas celebration held by a Bognor Regis-based women's centre.

My Sisters' House staged the event, complete with visits from the character Olaf, from the film of Frozen, and Father Christmas.

It took place at the Laburnum Centre in the town centre.

Julie Budge, founder of My Sister's House, said: "We had a good reaction from the families who went along.

"We had a good team of volunteer and we had one girl who went along as a princess from Frozen and was really excited to meet Olaf.

"It was lovely to see some of the people we know and hold a Christmas fair for them.

"THe event could have been better but it was the first time we have had an event like this.

"We had a lot of help from people like the Daisy Chain Project and we were able to have Olaf come along for free."

Latest plea for Helen's return DISTRAUGHT Barnham man Ken Slaughter has made an emotional appeal for his missing wife to come home for Christmas.

Helen Slaughter, 48, has been missing since November 1 in spite of widespread searches by the police and volunteers.

Mr Slaughter said on Wednesday: “We always look forward to Christmas as it is one of the only times during the year we all get together as a family. Helen is always very prepared for the day, buying Christmas presents in advance and she cooks the dinner for us on the day.

"THis year I don’t feel like celebrating.

We normally decorate the house and dress up the animals but this year we won’t be doing any of that until Helen comes home.”

Mrs Slaughter is 5ft 2in, of small build, with brown short hair and she normally wears glasses.

THe mother of three, was last seen wearing dark jeans, a light-coloured fleece and a woolly hat. She has a bee tattoo on her right arm and a letter H tattoo on her top left arm.

Inspector Roy Hodder, of Sussex Police's West Sussex missing person team, said: “Concerns for Helen remain high as this is very out of character for her to be away from her family for so long.

"We are appealing for anyone to come forward with information to tell us she is safe. THis is all the family wants to hear before Christmas. She may still be sheltering from the cold and we would

appreciate it if people could check their barns, sheds and any other outhouses for any signs of someone sleeping within.

“Please keep an eye out for her when you go on your festive walks over the upcoming week and get in contact immediately with any information.”

A DIAMOND wedding couple from Aldwick have been congratulated for their 60 years of marriage.

Rosie and Basil Kilrow met the area's MP, Nick Gibb, the day after the anniversary of their wedding earlier this month.

THey were married at the register office in Liverpool Road, Islington, in north London.

Mr Gibb, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, said: "It's wonderful to meet such a loving couple who have been together through thick and thin for 60 years. Many congratulations to Rosie and Basil."

THe couple attend the weekly Willows coffee drop-in mornings on Fridays at the Aldwick Parish Council offices off Pryors Lane, which Mr Gibb was visiting.

 Access fears SAFETY fears led councillors to defer plans for 20 houses in Shripney. THey said they would not decide the outline application for the properties on the A29 Shripney Road until a county council highways officer had visited the site with them. THe decision by Arun District Council’s development control committee came after several members had visited the location at THe Cottage before their meeting last week.

Cllr Phil Hitchins (C, Aldwick W), the committee’s vice-chairman, said: “I’ve got no problem with 20 houses on that site but I have severe concerns over the entrance and exit. It’s just not safe. THe speed of the traffic is very quick."

THe application by Castle Property Developments is for land south of THe Robin Hood pub and hotel.

THe A29 alongside it is a single carriageway but has a service road for houses on the opposite side.

THe developer wants to build two two-bed houses, nine three-bed houses, four four-bed houses and a building with two one-bed flats and four two-bed flats on the northern part of the site of 0.89 hectares.

On the southern half, a new house would replace the existing one.

Bersted Parish Council strongly objected to the plans. Its protests centred on traffic safety and the area’s history of flooding. A further 27 letters of objection were also received by Arun. But planning officer Simon Davis said: “Very much on balance, the proposals are considered to be in a sustainable development." THe plans had passed a road safety audit, he added.

Two wins in a week tees up Chi for Boxing day derby with Lions

Good end to 2017 for Chi CHICHESTER RFC signed off 2016 in style, chalking up their fourth win in a row to end the year in third place in London Division One South.

THe Blues inflicted the first defeat in five on Tottonians, picking up four points in a 24-17 win which lifted them above local rivals Havant in the table.

Scott Ashley's side now have a fortnight off before returning to action against their Hampshire rivals in what will be a tasty clash on January 6 (2pm).

Until then, Chi can rest and reflect on a fine first half of the campaign which has seen them perform well, despite not having a fully-fit squad for much of the autumn.

Club spokesman Roger Gould said: "Chi had to dig deep to assemble a squad due to injuries and unavailability and came up finally with a mix of experience and youth.

"THe odds were against them on paper but they played with great energy and skill to clinch four points and were unlucky to miss out on a win bonus."

From kick off, the Blues were on top. For 20 minutes they hammered at the Totts defence on their 22m line and

After forcing a penalty, Johnson picked up from the scrum and dived over. Tom Hutchin converted. A second try followed soon after, Jack Hamilton-Fox scoring a fine try to make it 14-0.

THe Southampton visitors closed the gap to seven at the break. But Chi started the second period on top and from a lineout drive Tom Belcher twisted over a last tackle and plunged down for the third try.

Hutchin converted for 21-7.

Tottonians pushed forward for another score but a penalty sealed victory for the Blues.

Elsewhere, Bognor RFC extended their winning run to nine after a tight 20-18 victory over third-place Millbrook.

Tries from Paddy Burnett and Pat Gains (2) kept the Purple and Greens in touch despite being reduced to 14 after Tom James was sent off.

A late Gains penalty then secured the four points which keeps the Hampshire Avenue second, just two points behind leaders US Portsmouth.

Bognor return on action on January 6 with a trip to Sandown & Shanklin.

CHICHESTER City striker Scott Murfin believes the title race is still on as the Lillywhites went into the festive period just two points behind league leaders Haywards Heath.

Miles Rutherford's side are now second in the SCFL Premier after a stoppage time goal from skipper Jack Lee helped earn them a 4-3 win at Arundel last weekend.

City were trailing 3-1 with 15 minutes to go at Mill Road until late strikes from Kaleem Haitham, Murfin and the captain sealed the dramatic win.

With Heath losing their past two, Chi are within touching distance with more than half of the season gone. THe win also sets them up nicely for a derby day clash with Pagham at Oaklands Park on Boxing Day (11am).

Speaking after the Arundel match, former Pagham player Murfin said: "We've just got to try and win as many games as possible.

Hopefully, other teams will slip up. With Haywards Heath dropping points there's probably five or six teams who, if they put a good run together, could be title contenders.�

PAGHAM prepared for their Christmas derby day clash with Chichester City in the best possible way after chalking up two wins from two in the past week.

THe Lions have hit their stride in recent weeks, stringing together a run of eight wins from nine in all competitions.

Braces each for Callum Overton and Daniel Simmonds, alongside James THurgar strike, sealed a 5-1 victory over bottom side Littlehampton Town last weekend.

THat was followed up by a 5-0 win against Crawley Down Gatwick on Tuesday in the

quarter final of the RUR cup, with Simmonds (3), Lloyd Rowlatt and Overton scoring.

It means Richie Hellen and Tom Simmonds side head into the match at Oaklands Park on Tuesday (11am) full of good cheer.

With Pagham sitting sixth in the SCFL Premier, they are still in contention for a promotion place with half the league season gone. However, that fight looks to be tighter than ever - with just eight points separating the top nine sides. With two matches over the Christmas period against teams that are in the mix, the Lions know they must keep up the

pressure on those above them and keep on picking up points.

THe match against Chichester City will be one of those tests, as Miles Rutherford's side sit second and have won six of their last seven.

Fans will no doubt want to see more than the Boxing Day clash a year ago. Both sides were flying high but the match did not live up to expectation, ending in a drab 1-1 draw in front of a bumper crowd.

In SCFL Division One, seventh-placed Selsey have a busy Christmas period hosting a festive double header. It starts tomorrow when the Blues welcome Seaford Town to the Bunn Leisure Stadium (3pm).

THen, on Boxing Day, Steve Bailey's side host fourth-placed Wick (11am) as they look to close the gap on those sides above them.

In SCFL Division Two, Sidlesham will be looking to bounce back after suffering backto-back defeats for the first time all season.

Daren Pearce's side were second, looking bang on course for promotion back to senior football. But a 3-2 defeat at Alford last weekend has seen the Sids slip to fourth, seven points behind leaders Roffey.

THey have a chance to close the gap when they welcome local rivals Bosham to the Recreation Ground tomorrow (3pm) for the traditional festive clash.

THe Robins drew 2-2 against Rustington last time out, thanks to goals from Grant Radmore and a late Jack Hardman strike.

Wingate siblings win darts doubles crown CHRISTMAS is full of cheer in the Wingate household after father and son Dave and Karl, pictured top right, won the Friday Benevolent Darts League Division Two pairs final.

In what was an evening of intense competition between 44 players, three trophies were handed out.

THe Division THree final saw 12 teams whittled down to Steve & Dan Middleton (Newtown C) against Wayne Green & Jack Danahar (Pagham CC). THe Pagham pair made the stronger start, and didn't let up until double-top was hit by Green, giving himself and Danahar the title of Division 3 Pairs champions.

THe Division Two final saw Graham Crawley & Stuart Gray (QE2 Galleon) face off against

the Wingates (Friary D).

After the opening two legs were split, the Wingates took control of the decider with a ton and 95 between them. Karl Wingate then hit double 3, making himself and his dad the Division Two Pairs champions.

Division One saw 20 teams take part, the second highest turnout on record, with Richard Ragless & Nick Wyatt (Friary Z) taking on Lee Franklin & Micky Rowland (Friary Z), pictured bottom right, in the final. After some strong scoring, both sides took one leg apiece.

THe last leg saw a slower start, but Franklin & Rowland took the bull by the horns and forged into the lead. It was left to Rowland to hit double 10 to take the leg, match and Division 1 Pairs champions title.

Trophy win sees Rocks raring to go for crucial festive time Next Game

POOLE TOWN (H) Tomorrow, 3pm

BOGNOR boss Jack Pearce believes his side can take six points from six over the Christmas period - although he vows he is not setting points targets as the Rocks embark on a crucial few days.

THere has been Christmas cheer aplenty in recent days around Nyewood Lane.

An excellent second half showing saw the Rocks secure a 4-1 win away at Southern South side Taunton Town last weekend.

THen, the mood was lifted further, when the draw for the second round handed Bognor a home match against National League giants Leyton Orient.

Before then, though, the Rocks - who are second bottom - have two crucial matches in the National South.

THe first is at home against Poole Town, the side directly above them. THen it is a Boxing Day derby at Havant & Waterlooville (3pm).

Pearce admitted the Poole game was 'massive' - but he drew a line at setting his side a target in terms of points.

He said: "At the end of the day. they all carry the same number of points. THere is no target - we just want to get as many points as we can.

"We could go and win but it may not make a difference in league position as everyone else wins too. All we can do is prepare each player and the team to try and win every game.

"We are very confident we can beat anyone home or away. We know we are capable of

beating anyone as we have good players and good spirit."

Bognor had to come from behind at the Viridor Stadium to beat Taunton Town.

After going in at the break 1-0 down, the Rocks found a clinical streak in the second period. Ben Swallow netted two goals, his first for the club, while Ibra Sekajja and Doug Tuck also netted at the end to secure a comfortable win.

It matched their victory against the same opponents in 2015. Pearce said: "It was not a lot different from how we've been playing for the last month.

"We played OK for the first half, with lots of ball and good play but, as has been the case in recent weeks, the final ball in was not good enough. THe only thing that changed after the break was we managed to get the final pass in and the finishing was good.

"We didn’t play any better than we have done in recent weeks but the result tells everything.

"THe boys worked hard, which they’ve been doing for the last month or six weeks.

Converting possession to goals has been a problem, though. But scoring four away makes a five-hour coach ride back a lot nicer."

THe Rocks were without Keaton Wood for the Taunton trip due to his broken nose. But Pearce expects him to be back in the squad for tomorrow. Ollie Pearce is also on his way back to fitness while Corey Heath awaits a scan.

Leyton Orient are Rocks' reward HE'S NOT one for Christmas is the Rocks' manager Jack Pearce.

But even he would have been a happy and contented man this week when the draw for the second round of the FA Trophy was made.

Bognor's reward for beating Southern South side Taunton Town 4-1 away is a home game against Leyton Orient. THat's the same Leyton Orient who until very recently were pushing for promotion to the Championship and talking about making the Olympic Stadium their home.

THe match on January 13 is sure to be a busy one, with at least 300 or so visiting fans expected. THat will boost the Rocks' coffers at a crucial time.

But, before then, Pearce knows his Bognor side have a lot to do on the league front, beginning tomorrow with Poole Town and then on Boxing Day at Havant.

Pearce told the Post: "I'm well pleased with the draw. THey are one of those sides who, going through the sides left in the tournament, I would have been picking out as a good tie.

"THe only thing is Portsmouth are at home that day but we should still get a good crowd.

"In the immediate term, it doesn’t change anything - we will continue to train, work hard and hope to get a good result on the day."

WHAT does a 4-1 win away from home in the premier non-league knockout cup competition give you?

Leyton Orient at home in the cup, of course!

All the talk this week has been about the match next month when we welcome the former football league side to the Nye Camp.

It is about time we had a less predictable draw in the FA Trophy since two years ago.

A lot of the fans agreed on the way back on the coach from our 4-1 win over Taunton Town that the O’s would provide a great atmosphere down at the Lane - and hopefully a lot of money generated during the match as well!

Already, their fans are writing us off on the internet forums a month ahead of the game.

I say let them do just that.

Teams have underestimated us in the past and in the end paid the price.

Just ask Altrincham or Torquay United.

As for the Taunton Town game, it was a match which while on paper may have seemed easy as they were two leagues below us, in reality it could have been a tough one.

As I sat down in their press area, I was very wary of the Peacocks and the run they were on.

Unbeaten at home all season in the league and top of it with a 13-point gap - that's no mean feat for any side, whatever level they play at.

We've played them before, meeting them in the same competition two seasons ago.

But it was a very different Rocks side then, one that was used to winning.

THe first half wasn’t the greatest and at times I felt we were under the cosh with some pressure from the hosts.

Going in at the break 1-0 down, I really did fear the worst. It looked a long way back from there.

However, the team performed to their potential in the second half.

It ended up being a carbon copy of 2015 with four goals

It was fantastic to see Ben Swallow get two goals - I am sure he will agree it was well overdue, along with Ibra Sekajja adding to his total and Doug Tuck even chipped in late on with a long-range effort.

Everyone was looking forward to seeing who we got in the next round during a long trip back from Somerset.

With the draw came out, there was no-one who I've spoken to who has been disappointed at the prospect of a big National League side coming to our place in the new year.

Back to the current, and the hunt for another striker continues.

I think everyone knows that a decent striker is hard to find and for a relatively good level of weekly wage, even at this level of football.

On a positive note, though, Tommy Block is really playing well at the moment and others are stepping up in the team and performing.

It can’t come at a better time as the Christmas period sees a lot of matches taking place, starting with a highly anticipated tie at Nyewood Lane tomorrow against Poole Town.

It was 2-2 at their place earlier on this season, with Jimmy Muitt netting a late equaliser.

I think we can do better tomorrow if we play like we did in the second half at Taunton.

Muitt is due a goal and I am sure he will be up for this.

I still can’t believe we have Leyton Orient at home on January 13 - be sure to let someone know and bring them along to cheer on the Rocks.
