Kite festival needs new home ORGANISERS of Bognor Regis Kite Festival have cancelled plans for this year's event in a popular venue. THe committee of volunteers has ruled out using West Park for the crowd-pulling attraction after they were stopped from returning on their preferred date. THey want to go back to the park for the three-day August bank holiday weekend. But Arun District Council has ruled priority should be given to the town's

long-running illuminations gala instead. Vice-chairman Jan Malpas said the festival organisers regarded the decision as regrettable. But she said they were determined to look for a new location to build on the success of the festival's initial three years. "We have now got the bank holiday weekend in the calendar of the kite flyers and now we need to see where else is available," she said.
"We have a couple of places in mind. THe whole reason we started the festival was for Bognor Regis residents and to offer something different in the town. "Hopefully, we will find somewhere within the Arun district." THe festival began modestly at West Park in October, 2015, and continued there the next summer. THe organisers moved to the bank holiday slot last August after they
believed the gala was about to stop. But the gala took place as usual to mean both events were staged side by side. Arun, which owns the park, has decided that situation should not happen again. Mrs Malpas said: "THe gala is only on from 8.30pm on the Sunday night and we've never been told what problems were caused by both events taking place together.
