Community to fight for A27 BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk CAMPAIGN groups and leaders of the community are coming together in unity to propose a new start for the A27. Last week's announcement that the government is scrapping the planned £250m redevelopment of the heavily congested road has shocked and angered
the community. Transport secretary Chris Grayling claimed he made the decision because the consultation and the five options proposed by Highways England were not supported by the local councils. On Monday night, a meeting was called by West Sussex County Council leader, Louise Goldsmith. Louise said: “Following the events of the last week, I thought it imperative that
the community unites to demonstrate our willingness to work together to find a way forward. I am so grateful to everyone who came and for all the views which were expressed. "My wish is that we all now work together to explore the ‘Art of the Possible for Chichester’ and the current challenges we face on the A27. “I was heartened by the response from the community and I think we have a
unique opportunity to now work towards a solution which is right for Chichester.” Chichester MP Andrew Tyrie and Chichester District Council leader Tony Dignum were among those who attended the meeting, along with the Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, and Chichester College principal Shelagh Legrave OBE.
