inancially, the walls are caving in for Londoners. Shops are being boarded up, libraries are being closed down and hospitals are getting smaller and more cramped. The homeless gather in underground passages by tube stations, hiding from the wet slushy, windy English weather. And, just like in the era of Dickens, the greatest irony is that just around the corner from these poor young men and women are beautifully kept streets of large white houses, with giant iron doors, and special golden coloured street lamps, and men with cigars that sip the finest champagne and eat nothing but quail.

Royalty is a part of who we are

as a society, and the pomp and ceremony that goes with that is part of what makes us the people we are

When David Cameron came in to power it was on the back of the promise of creating what he called ‘the big society’. The idea was that due to the financial crisis that we all faced as a country, we should work together, in the way that we did during World War Two, to fight our way out of debt. Everyone would have to suffer, and suffer together! However, in becoming Prime Minister one of the first things he then did was reduce the tax rate from 50% to 40% for the countries’ highest earners, essentially giving the richest in the country a massive tax break. He had lied to us. Cameron is the son of a multi-millionaire, he is a multi-millionaire himself and he was a member of the Burlington club (an exclusive rich boys club who played drinking games together at Cambridge University) why the hell would he lose any sleep over cuts? But no one seems to have any problem with The Queen. The Queen costs us around 40 million pounds to keep in the manner to which she’s accustomed. She jets around the world to represent us, without our permission, and spends most of her time in an estate in Scotland, the size of a small country, and is in many ways, our number one benefit scrounger. So why then, is it that I love her? And why is she my favourite person to serve? Well, first of all you should know that when you serve The Queen you don’t actually serve Queeney herself at all...she tends not to go to the bar. What happens is that one of her trusted royal butlers serves her and you look at her from the other side of the room.

So essentially the only real insight you can have of Queeney’s world is through how her butlers come across to you, the colour of her dress and what she has to drink. The Butlers are quite literally the nicest people in the world. It’s their job to come to the bar and make sure that you know what you’re doing, which should be annoying, and would be, if it wasn’t for the way they do it. They are so gentle, polite and dignified about the whole thing that you actually long for them to boss you around more. They’re so well presented, in pressed tops and tails that you start to wonder if you actually aren’t under-qualified for the job you are doing and that it might be better for them to go through the basics with you anyway. They make you feel nicely subservient. Like the disciples of some strange cult, you get a sense of being part of something brighter, greater and older than you, something bigger than yourself. It’s like the feeling an English guy like me gets watching the Olympics or an old Bond film. It stops an Englishman, who is probably suffering from shame from the day of birth by virtue of his English nature, from being ashamed of being English itself. Royalty is a part of who we are as a society, and the pomp and ceremony that goes with that is part of what makes us the people we are. It may be ridiculous and it may mean taking instructions on making a cocktail you’ve made a thousand times before, but it’s who we are. So for The Queen I will happily take it. The Queen has no real power; she is probably outdated and doesn’t deserve the personal wealth that I imagine she has. But ‘twas ever thus’. And if there is one thing we English are, it’s stuck in our traditions. And she drinks Martini’s.

Dirty Martini Ingredients Gin Vermouth Olive Brine Olives Preparition Wash out an old spray bottle e.g. a perfume bottle, and spray a chilled martini glass with Vermouth, the trick is to use as little as possible. Fill your shaker with ice and add 5ml of olive brine and 40ml of gin, and shake hard for 10 seconds. Pour into the glass and serve with olives.

Tell us about your brand and the story behind Mayla For many years I ran a multi-brand store with international brands, but more and more I felt that I wanted to do something of my own with my customer in mind. How does your brand stand out from others, in the fashion industry? Mayla is for the stylish woman. Materials and quality is very important. I’m really inspired by vintage patterns, and each season, I develop my own patterns. What does your work process look like? I’m trying to work quite structured and usually I start by finding an interesting source of inspiration. Often, it’s been some kind of movie theme. Then, I decide materials, colours and patterns.

Who is the typical “Mayla woman”? The Mayla-woman is in mid-career and travel a lot. She needs a well-functioning wardrobe that is easy to combine for work, dinner and then off for a drink. Crown Princess Victoria has worn your clothes; are you inspired by royalties? My biggest inspirations are early style icons like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Kim Novak. Since Mayla is stylish, I think it suits a royal wardrobe.

hen I was about 10 I told my mother, much to her despair, that I was going to move to her and my dad’s home country Sweden when I grew up. And I did. Sweden had always held an allure over me as a child, and still does now that I’m an adult, so I just had to get a taste for it. Though at first I had only planned on staying just for a while, I’ll never regret buying that one-way ticket. I’m definitely here to stay, and have always known so.

The city is packed with countless attractions, hidden treasures, culture, history, great eats, great shopping, and breath taking sites.... if you can stomach how horrifically expensive everything is.

When I first moved I didn’t have a job, had no friends, no real direction and only a pretty good grasp of the Swedish language. I only had my relatives to guide me; and they helped me feel at home right away. Since inner city Stockholm is really safe I could explore freely by myself too. I would take random buses or the metro to every side of town and just walk around different parts of the city. I’d get really lost, but it gave me a really great sense for how the city was sectioned off in its very different but all equally interesting sub-cities. After just a few months I had a job, a great group of friends, I was more confident with my Swedish and I really felt at home and in love with Stockholm.

I fell in love with Stockholm in a few ways. I would pack a newspaper or book, grab a ferry and head out to Djurgården to practice my Swedish, take a camera to Vasastan to imagine where my Dad grew up, put on a posh outfit, window shop and oogle the exquisite architecture of Östermalm, pack a picnic and enjoy a sunny day on the cliffs of Fredhäll in Kungsholmen, or grab a coffee and check out the quirky second hand stores of Södermalm.

What started as a love affair with a city later turned into an actual love affair. I met my life’s love Johan here, which made living in my dream city ever more dreamy. Now I’m definitely here to stay.

KRISTINA’S TIPS Save your pennies! Stockholm is scary expensive and you’re going to be tempted to treat yourself to great food, drinks, and something new and pretty for yourself. Don’t worry about having to speak Swedish or talking to locals. Everyone’s English is really great, and Stockholmers are surprisingly helpful and friendly. Use public transportation, I do. Buses are great for site seeing, the metro is quick and actually rather clean, and the ferries are a quiet calm way of exploring the city’s many waterways. They call Stockholm the Venice of the North for a reason. Some of my favorite places are a bit out of the way and not on usual tourist maps. I really just like to find a place of my own and steer clear of the popular spots. I love picnicing on Reimersholme with friends instead of popular Långholmen, taking a walk around Skeppsholmen instead of Djurgården, or exploring Tantolunden’s hidden away tiny colony gardens, which are just so cute.

what to wear ? Black! Just kidding. The stylish capital is notorious for its all black wearing residents, but I wear what I want and you should too. If you really want to fit in stick to classic staples and silhouettes, minimalism, or preppy styles. The Hipster look works too. Pack an umbrella and a jacket. Sweden is unpredictable at best; it can rain any second and shady spots and evenings can get pretty chilly. A cotton scarf is also a nice idea, great for chilly sea breezes or used as a blanket at an impromptu picnic. Flat shoes. I destroyed absolutely all of my high heeled shoes just a month after moving to Stockholm. The city is built on cobblestoned and uneven streets. Plus you’re going to walk a lot! Dress up! The city is so gorgeous and its residence’s very well dressed you’re going to want to be just as gorgeous, if not more

where to eat ? Not going to lie, Stockholm is horrifically expensive and I don’t eat out at all as often as I’d like. Twice a year maybe?! But here are a few of my favorites. Hötorgshallarna. Stockholm has great indoor food markets, I like them all but Hötorget may be my favorite. I love the mix of Swedish delicacies as well as many exciting foods from different corners of the world. Surprisingly affordable too!

Everywhere you turn Stockholm is surrounded by gorgeous waterways

Östermalms Saluhall: Another indoor market, but this one is so breathtakingly beautiful, exclusive, and full of the most amazing food stuffs Sweden has to offer. One of everything please! SOFO: South of Folkungagatan. There are so many great small restaurants, cafes, and bars in this area, it’s impossible to name all of them. Choose a street such as Skånegatan and hop from place to place.

FIKA Swedes are all about taking a break to have a cup of coffee and enjoy a sweet treat with a friend at any time of the day... or twice. Pärlans. The tiniest, cutest, retro sweet shop with the tastiest homemade caramels in the world. Svenskt Tenns Tesalong. Take a break from gushing over all the beautiful fabrics and other home goods to have a spot of tea. Try their fragrant house blends! Chokladfabriken. Chocolate Factory, enough said. Yum!

where to shop ? I’m not much of a shop-a-holic and prefer to window shop and save my pennies but Stockholm is a great shopping city full of huge department stores, high fashion, second hand/vintage, and about a billion H&Ms. Definitely don’t miss all the flagship stores of the big Swedish top brands such as Acne, Whyred or Fillippa K too. Nordiska Kompaniet. I feel so posh browsing this elegant classic department store. You can find just about everything here. Svenskt Tenn. I could look at Josef Franks’ amazing fabrics all day long. If the prices weren’t so high my apartment would be completely covered in Svenskt Tenn.

not to miss: There is so much to see in Stockholm but if you’re pressed for time make sure not to miss these favorite spots: Djurgården. “Stockholm’s Backyard” is great for long walks, and getting away from city life. Visit Stockholmers favorite Rosendalsträdgård for a weekend treat in their greenhouse cafe, you can even pick your own wildflower bouquet to bring home.

Gamla Stan. Stockholm’s Old Town may be swarming with tourists but it’s well worth a visit. It’s just so cosy and cute! Explore all the quiet, winding, quirky, history filled streets of the oldest and culturally dense part of Stockholm. I especially love the quieter east side of the island. I really want to take a night tour one day, want to go?!

Katarinavägen or Fjällgatan. The panorama view of Stockholm from these two streets takes my breath away every time I pass by. Perfect spot to enjoy a big ice cream cone and take in the view. Drottningholm. A visit to The Royal Palace and gardens may be outside of Stockholm, but it definitely must not be missed. I feel like a Swedish Marie Antoinette every time I stroll through the royal gardens. My favorite way to get there is by steamboat from Stadshuset. So romantic! 41

Taj Mahal

I would give my kingdom for you! In 1592 a Prince was born, his name was Shah Jahan (later known as prince Khurram). He was the son of the fourth Mughal emperor of India. In 1607 when the Prince was 14 years old, he was strolling down a market place when suddenly his eyes landed on the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Her name was Arjumand Banu Begum, and she was the Princess of Persia.

Some say that the Taj Mahal appears to change color depending on the time of day, and in moonlight. The story is that the color change should reflect the mood changes of a woman. Prince Khurram died in 1666 and his body was placed to rest next to the great love of his life.The Taj Mahal has also been named one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by Unesco.

The Prince was so completely infatuated with the Princess that he immediately asked his father’s permission to take her as his third wife. They were married after five years. It has been said that their love was the biggest love story in history. Although he had two more spouses, these were just a political agreement. The Prince named Arjumand, Mumtaz Mahal and it means “The Jewel of the Palace”. She accompanied him everywhere and together they had 14 children. Unfortunately, while giving birth to their fourteenth child the Princess died due to complications. The Prince was so devastated that on her death bed he promised her that he would never remarry and that he would build the richest mausoleum over her grave. After her death the heartbroken Prince ordered two years of mourning in the court. As he promised his love, he build theTaj Mahal as a token of love and placed her tomb inside. Taj Mahal took 22 years and 22000 workers to build and was at the cost of his royal treasury.

Even though they had not known each other for a long time, Napoleon had fallen madly in love with Joséphine. He proposed to her some months after and they were married 1796. Only two days after their marriage Napoleon had to leave home to lead the French troops in Italy. Stationed far away from home in the army, a lovesick and newlywed Napoleon kept sending letters to his beloved Joséphine hoping she would come and visit him. It was these love letters that still today remain some of the most beautiful love letters in history. Joséphine who was enjoying of a life of parties and adultery had no intention of leaving France to meet up with her husband. Her lies revealed after some time and when she realized that Napoleon knew her lies and adultery she panicked and traveled to meet Napoleon at the border of France. By this time Joséphine had fallen in love with Napoleon and the fact that she could lose him was terrifying to her. The story says that when Napoleon came back to France he was so devastated and heartbroken that he had locked himself in a room for days. Joséphine waited outside the door begging him to forgive her. Napoleon rejected Joséphine and got back at her by openly having many mistresses .They later divorced.

It is said that even though Napoleon remarried he never stopped loving Joséphine and he visited her often. Joséphine never remarried either and Napoleon was the last word that she said on her dying bed. His dying words were France, army, head of the army and Joséphine. 44

A love affair with diamonds and men No woman has been more associated with diamonds and men than Elizabeth Taylor. But it is her marriage to Richard Burton that is considered one of the most iconic romances of our time. In 1961 Elizabeth Taylor met Richard Burton on the set of Cleopatra, but at that time they were both married to other people. That meeting was the start of a love affair that would result in their first marriage in 1964. This marriage lasted for ten years and was filled with passion but also fights, alcohol and drugs. During their first marriage Richard Burton would spoil his beloved Elizabeth with expensive jewellery. Some of the most famous jewellery that she got from Richard Burton was the 33,19 carat diamond ring,better known as the The Krupp diamond, and for her fortieth birthday she got a 69.42 carat pear-shape diamond ring that would later on be called the Taylor-Burton Diamond.

Maybe we loved each other too much? The Taylor-Burton diamond was at that time the most expensive diamond in the world. Since the diamond was so heavy they later had it made into a necklace that Elizabeth premiered at Princess Grace Kellyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 40th birthday. Richard and Elizabeth divorced in 1974 and got remarried in 1976 again. The second time around their marriage lasted only for a couple of months. Even though they did not stay married it was obvious that their love for each other never died. When Richard Burton passed away in 1984 Elizabeth was inconsolable. Talking about their marriage Elizabeth Taylor once said: â&#x20AC;&#x153;Maybe we loved each other too muchâ&#x20AC;? and therefore they could not stay together. While they were married Richard continuously wrote diaries and love letters to Elizabeth, and sometimes he would write to her even when she would be in the same room. He kept writing to her even after they divorced. Every time they ran into each other the sparks were obvious to everyone around them. There is a debate if he actually wrote a love letter to her before his death, saying that the happiest time was when he was with her and that he wanted to come home. Apparently, this love letter was buried with Elizabeth and so we will never know..but what is sure is that their love for each other was as great and incredible as much as it was impossible.

n a house dating back to the 17th century, tailor Sushila Gautam and milliner Patrik Selling create the most wonderful suits, dresses, hats and hair accessories. We couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have been more excited to check out this creative atelier, and we are totally loving the inspiring place Sushila and Patrik call home.

Sushila and Patrik, tell us a bit about what you do.

S: I’m a dressmaker and tailor. I enjoy the differences between women and men’s clothing - the shapes, materials etc. There are always new challenges. P: I’m a milliner. I make hats for women and men, young and old. What I like about hats is that they are a kind of three dimensional textile sculptures. With hats, you can see results straight away.

STYLE

What is your work process like?

S: I always start with a first consultation. Sometimes the customer knows what he or she wants, sometimes they don’t. In that case, I’ll have to figure out what they want, look at fabrics, and brainstorm with them. If they know what they want, I start by taking their measurements. After that, we do a fitting in toile. We’ll do as many fittings as required to get it perfect. It can vary between three to as many as fifteen depending on the client’s body and their ability to make decisions. I really love the process from start to finish, and that you can take someone’s idea and turn it into reality.

P: The process in millinery is much shorter than in tailoring, since you work with the material of choice right from the start. There aren’t as many fittings as in tailoring, and we don’t work with toile. It’s a shorter process and you see the results quickly. Do you have a particular type of customer?

S: It varies a lot. I have very young cus-

tomers as well as old ones. Those who want me to design something are often interested in vintage fashion and like the old, classic look that they can’t get a hold of in shops. Many customers just want things like a suit or a dress. The garments my customers order can be everything from casual clothing to evening wear.

P: I have many different customers as

well, both 16-year old boys and girls as well as 85-year old women. Although, I regard my main target as men and women in their thirties. The millinery profession almost disappeared during the teen revolution in the 60s and 70s. Although, young people are starting to wear hats and the millinery skills are again back in demand.

STYLE

Patrik, when do your customers wear hats?

P: Well, if someone orders a wedding hat, they usually only wear it for the wedding. But I like to alter the hats slightly after the wedding or big event to enable the customer to wear the hat on other occasions. Why, do you think, is it that people don’t go to tailors in the same extent anymore?

S: When ready-made clothing first appeared, it was something new and modern. People didn’t have to wear homemade clothes anymore. Since then, people have gotten used to the low prices. 54

It’s has been difficult for tailors to compete with these prices. We have, on the other hand seen a change in the way people regard craftsmanship. Tailors used to be a part of the craft professions such as carpenters etc, now we are a part of the luxury industry. It goes hand in hand with brewing your own beer, baking sourdough bread and buying things from local vendors. People are starting to want locally produced products again. They want unique and hard-to-find things. It’s all about new ”kicks”, new ways to express yourself.

Does that mean people are finding their way back to tailors?

P: Yes, Many have grown tired of the standardisation of ready-to-wear. There is no such thing as a standard size or standard body. People are not cast in the same mould.

S: It’s obviously easier to make clothes for a straight body rather than a curvy one. Because of that a lot of curvy women feel fat, when in reality they are beautiful. It’s really sad that so many people feel ugly because they don’t fit in to the standard model of ready-made clothing.

SUITS AND COATS

Bespoke

Canvases

A custom made garment. Made from scratch to a customer’s specific measurements and requirements. The word dates back to the days when a customer ordering a garment would select and reserve a cloth that was then “bespoken” or “spoken for”.

The inner material used in a garment to give it shape. Canvasses include linen, horsehair, hemp, jute, melton and many more.

Fitting

The best quality you can buy in a suit. Usually a horsehair canvas, which is sewn between the lining and the cloth of the jacket. This technique prolongs the longevity of the suit by distributing tension at stress points such as shoulders and elbows, it also allows the suit to breathe and holds up to repeated dry cleaning.

An occasion when one tries on a garment that is being made or altered. By attending several fittings, the customer can make sure that the garment really is tailor made. A fitting is also an opportunity to express opinions on details, fit etc.

Made to measure / Custom made Half r-t-w. Garment made from a pre-existing stock pattern that is altered, usually by machine, to fit the customer’s measurements. Not to be confused with bespoke.

Toile A test garment used to try the fit before working with the actual cloth. Usually made in cheap material, as multiple toiles may be made in the process of perfecting a design.

Full Floating Canvas

Fused canvas The interlining is heat pressed (glued) to the wool of the suit. It is less durable over time and loses flexibility. Fusing is good if you want a price point suit and don’t plan on wearing it every day. This technique is not used by professional tailors, but in the r-t-w or bespoke clothing industry.

Half Floating Canvas A compromise between full and fused canvas. A half canvased suit uses a sewn in canvas piece in the chest and the lapel of the jacket, and is fused on the bottom part of the jacket. This allows you to have the canvas at the most important part of the suit, and keeps the price down by having less handwork.

TIP

To test if the jacket is full-canvas, pinch the layers of fabric between the button holes. If you feel three layers it is full canvas, two layers is half canvas and one layer means the lining is fused or glued.

MILLINER TERMS Coiff A stiff, small hat. Usually fasten to the hair with hairpins, combs or an elastic band in the neck.

Crenol Synthetic straw-like material that is thicker than tulle.

Diadem A jewelled headband.

Fascinator Usually a large hair decoration on a band or clip with elaborate trimmings and decoration like a formal hat and it can incorporate a base to make it a miniature hat.

Felt Cloth made from wool, fur or hair, compacted (felted) by rolling and pressing, in the presence of heat and moisture.

Hat Item of dress worn on the head, from a word of Saxon origin meaning hood.

Milliner Artisan who makes and sells hats.

Your home is so charming and beautiful! Does your home reflect the same style as your wardrobe or as your designs? My home does reflect my style. I like vintage clothes and second hand items, especially garments inspired by the 10 and 20’s era. My home is a mix of 1900th century to 1950’s furniture. Almost everything in my home is old; from pillow cases with handmade lace, to the silver cutlery that I eat breakfast with every morning. I’m inspired by beautiful things with high quality in my designs, and that is also a obvious choice in my home. How would you describe your decorating style? I don’t have a single item from the big department stores, and that’s a relief to me as I don’t like furniture made by chipboard. I prefer well made furniture that will last an entire lifetime. My idea is to never throw furniture away, but to take care of the things I have and to add well chosen things that I’ll find in antique stores now and then. What is the hardest part of decorating? To me, there is nothing difficult with decorating, but if I where to mention something it’s finding nice lamps, fixing the electrical and pretty fabric-covered cords.

What is your favourite part of decorating? The best part is searching for the perfect thing at flea markets and antique shops. I love to go around looking for antiques and that’s what I spend most time doing on vacation. What is your favourite room in your apartment (and why)? My favourite room is the living room. It’s big and airy. I love the vaulted ceiling and the pretty, hardwood floor that has thousands of marks and creaks as I walk barefoot over it. I makes me think about those who’s walked over this old floor throughout time. The apartment used to be three times as big and the building is from 1873. I like history and would never consider living in anything newer than 1930. Where are some of your favourite places to shop for interior design, both online and in Sweden? I shop quite a bit at Bukowskis and Stockholms Auktionsverk, and also from private collectors who know what I like. A lot of my latest finds, such as the desk which is a baking table from the late 1700s, I find in Österlen. I really love going around to all the small flea markets in Skåne. You can find a lot of nice things there.

A guide to Perfume Have you ever heard someone say? She smelt like a flower! Our way of sensing a smell is very powerful and a personâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s scent can make a very big impact. A scent often makes you remember certain persons or events. There are those who claim we tend to fall in love with people because of their scent, well, I would tend to agree with that. There are some things to be considered while wearing and choosing your perfume Use your perfumes wisely and remember that there could be people around you that are allergic so go easy on the perfume. Generally, you should use perfume more lightly during the day. Perfume will mix with your body chemistry after some hours. Therefore, a perfume will never smell the same on two people, so be careful before rushing into buying the same perfume as your friends.

It is best to wait for a while after you have showered to put on a fragrance. This is because the natural body scent that helps the perfume last longer has been washed away.

Contrary to popular myth a perfume should not be rubbed between your wrists since that destroys the perfume molecules. And remember, it takes time for a perfume to mature on your body and develop into the right scent.

Add perfume where the body gets warm rapidly such as your neck and your wrists.

Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t perfume your clothes, they will just smell old after a while.

If you would like a more lasting fragrance use a body lotion (preferably the same as the perfume) and then layer with perfume.

Another tip is to spray perfume (lightly!) into the hair.

Do consider keeping your perfumes cool and dark since warmer temperatures change the nature of the perfume.

Short History of Perfume The art of making perfumes originated in Egypt and was later further developed by the Romans and the Arabs. Perfume production has developed rapidly from the 1850s and due to new technologies these can now be produced cheaper and new kinds of notes created. Nowadays most perfumes originate from Grasse, France. For decades they have been growing aromatic plants there to extract their essences.

The intensity of a scent depends on the level of perfume oil it contains. The strongest is the Perfume Followed by : Eau de Perfume Then comes the Eau de Toilette The least intense scent is the Eau de Cologne. The level of pure oil extract determines the price of the perfume.

Perfumes are divided into fragrance families. It is the dominant scent of the perfume that determines which category the perfume belongs to. Since all families have different “personalities” most often we tend to choose perfumes from the same family.

Although Kate has many names her style is very well put together. It is almost like her style is honest in some way. She always looks comfortable, pregnant or not and with that said, with a baby on the way, Princess Kate has never looked better. Kate never leaves her comfort zone. Which in some cases can sound boring. However, in this particular case it is what makes Kate’s style hers. She is safe, and still surprising with her vibrant colour choices. She is fashion-forward enough and perfectly elegant in a modern way, just like a true princess of her time. Her style has evolved from safe and conservative into becoming a chic fashion icon.

In some ways, Kate has created her own royal style. Wrap dresses, shorter dresses, tight dresses and of course hats. What is sure is that we barely see her in trousers. I can understand that. With those gorgeous legs, why not show them? Kate is never afraid to be sexy, but in a classy way. A deeper neckline paired with a statement necklace is one of Kate’s go to fashion tricks. Princess Kate has an easy grace and she loves to mix high fashion with the high street chains such as Zara. What I love about her style is that she has not changed it during her pregnancy. It is still modern and classic enough, without getting dull. I cannot say it better than Max Mara’s creative director, Laura Lusuardi. “Kate is clearly a very confident, healthy woman who is comfortable in her own skin”. Green salad with pasta and summer vegetables 4 Servings 250g pasta of your choice 300g mixed tomatoes 1/2 Aubergine 1 red onion 2 clove of minced garlic 2 handfuls of fresh basil 0,5 dl olive oil 100 gr rocket Salt and freshly ground black pepper Chopped fresh basil

Cook the pasta according to directions. Rinse it in cold water to cool off completely. Halve the tomatoes and slice the onion. Cut the aubergine into bite size pieces and fry soft in olive oil. Mix garlic, basil and olive oil into a bright green dressing. Pour the dressing over the cold pasta and combine with remaining ingredients. Salt and pepper to taste.

Tuna sandwiches with black olives Preheat the oven to 150 degrees 째C. Butter the slices of bread. Stir together tuna, mayo, creme fraiche, mustard and lemon juice until creamy. Salt and pepper to taste. Slice olives and tomatoes. Spread the tuna mixture, olives, tomatoes and rocket over 2 of the bread slices and put the other two on top.

Ricotta cheesecake squares with lemon Makes 12 Crust: 100 gr. Melted butter 150 gr. digestive biscuits Filling: 250 gr. Ricotta 200 gr. Cream cheese 1 dl milk 2 dl caster sugar 1 tsp vanilla sugar 1 tbs maixena flour 2 eggs Zest of 2 lemons Fresh raspberries to garnish

Preheat the oven to 150 Ë&#x161;C. Mix melted butter and biscuits to a fine powder. Press out the mixture in to a form (about 20x20 cm). Place in the middle of the oven for about 15 minutes. Gently combine all remaining ingredients and pour this mixture over the crust. Bake the cheesecake in the lower part of the oven for 40-45 minutes. If it should brown too much - cover it with tin foil. Allow the cheesecake to set in the fridge overnight and then cut it into squares. Garnish with fresh raspberries. 119

bag can evoke memories, a bag can make you lucky as nothing else can. It is almost as if we have a relationship with our bags. It is the two of us against the world! It is as if the bag will protect us from anything bad, like a shield. A couple of years ago it was all about the it-bags. The bag that every celebrity was carrying, or the one that cost the most. It was not about the practicalities of the bag, it was only a status symbol. Luckily, we have left that behind. Almost. Of course, expensive bags will always be some kind of a status symbol. Now, and for some time, there has almost been a protest against bags. We see french style icons like Emmanuelle Alt carrying their phones, notebooks and wallets in their hands. Perhaps it is just a trend at the moment? Because, who can say no to all those gorgeous bags out there? The thing with bags is that everyone can have one. Any body type can carry a bag, you do not have to be tall or super skinny to carry it, it is not a couture dress. It is a way to access the big fashion houses and once you treat yourself to a love, a bag. It is hard not to do it again or get in a serious relationship with it. 125

Tell us about your philosophy when it comes to healthy living My philosophy when it comes to healthy living has always been that you have to find joy and pleasure in the food you eat. Your skin is a great tool that immediately shows you how you feel. If you are not feeling well in your body it will show up on your skin right away. You should see the food you eat as a tool for healthy living and a glowing skin. Pure and unprocessed food will give you more energy, a radiant looking skin, positive thinking and you will feel more at ease with yourself. Eating pure and healthy do require some discipline in the beginning, but in the end it will pay off.

Many of us today are battling with skin impurities and a lack of glow in our skin, how do we come about with that problem? Green vegetables are definitely a source of energy and glow. Eating more green leaf vegetables will make your skin soft, smooth and glowing. Make a habit of including it in a salad or in the morning smoothie.

If only talking about the skin, what is important to think about to get a glowing skin? Drink more water, and eat more green leafs and superfoods. Superfoods will also protect you from the damaging sunbeams. Dry brush and scrub your body on a regular basis. When scrubbing, make sure to use the natural body scrubs. Another thing to keep in mind regarding facial products and body lotions is to consider if these products are something that you can eat as well. If that is not the case, then you should probably not use it on your face and body. Including healthy fats into your diet will make your skin more elastic. Some examples of healthy fats are: Coconut oil, flaxseed oil, hemp oil, olive oil and cocoa butter, these are all products that could be used as body lotions.

What is a good way to start a day with? Water! Drink a large glass of room temperature water, but make sure the water is filtrated. Today’s tap water includes a lot of chemicals and hormones and therefore it is good to filter the water. Ad some lemon juice, wheatgrass, chlorella and spirulina and you have a glass of elixir. If possible, try to not eat anything right away in the morning before you have gone to the bathroom. That way your intestines are ready to start to work and are not disturbed by yesterday’s food.

What are the products that you would recommend to be excluded or minimised in order to get a healthier looking skin? Processed foods, products including E-markings, flour, refined sugar and lactose, these are some of the products that you should try to minimise.

Could you name three skin care products you couldn’t do without? Coconut oil - I use it as body lotion, sunblock, hair treatment and it’s delicious to make a good ice chocolate with. Green powders such as spirulina, chlorella or wheatgrass. This cleanses us from within to increase our inner and outer glow. Honey - I massage it on to the skin and on to dry patches. I also enjoy the benefits of having a little lukewarm water and a drop of honey.

Spearmint ball 10 dates 3 dl of sunflower seeds 10 drops of mint oil 2 teaspoons of spirulina Sweetened cacao nibs Run the sunflower seeds in the food processor until they are finely divided. Add spirulina and mint oil and run again. Add the dates and run until it gets the consistency of which you can make balls of. Roll in sweetened cocoa bits.

Clean

First, start by washing away eye makeup with eye makeup remover. Wash your face morning and night with a facial cleanser. Massage the cleanser into the face, in a circular motion. 1) Begin to circulate into the cheeks 2) go up against the forehead in circular motion 3) Go down to the chin. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Dab skin dry with a freshly washed towel.

TONER

Pat toner into the skin with a lightly moistened cotton pad. Avoide the eye area. This will get the skin really clean. Pay extra attention to the nostrils, eyebrows, and hairline, since dirt tend to stick to these areas.

EXFOLIATE

Exfoliate your skin one to three times a week. But no more than three times a week since the skin begins to compensate if you exfoliate too much. The same applies to rubbing the face vigorously with a towel. This can lead to pimples or the skin might begin to produce more sebum which can lead to oily skin. There are peelings that should be left on the skin as a mask, these works chemically. If you’re in need of an extra treat, apply a facial mask after exfoliating.

MOISTURISE

Moisturise your skin and do not forget eye cream. Apply a pea size of eye cream, dab out two clicks under eye skin and pat to the outside eye, where crow's feet are formed. Apply under the eyebrow as well, and on the eyelid if you're dry there. Apply moisturizer on the forehead, cheeks and chin, and lubricate the cream. Finish with sunscreen. Sun protection is needed year round, SPF 15 is sufficient for winter months. You can also use a day cream with SPF. Avoid creams with SPF during the night. Gradually increase to SPF 25-30 during the spring.To preserve the quality of your skin, use SPF 50 in the summer. Especially if you have a tendency to develop pigmentation
