THIS IS THE REGINAL .F. LEWIS MUSEUM OF AFRICAN HISTORY.THE BUILDING IS APPROXIMATLY 100,000 SQF, INCLUDING THE CELLAR.THE PROGRAM CONSISTED OF GALERY SPACES, OF PERMANET GALERY SPACES, WITH CHANGING EXHIBIT BEING ON THE LOBBY AND THE CELLAR.THE UPPER FLOOR FOR PERMANET GALLERIES AND LOWER FLOOR CHANGING EXHIBITS. The site is in Manhattan at the corner of 5th avenue and north east corner of central park, right by the corner of Duke Ellington circle. The site is nearby to the west side IRT and east side IRT, Walking distance, there are numerous bus that pass by my site. The site is accessible to public and vehicular transportation. The site in the corner of R-7 or 8 zone and it have a 6.5 FAR.The site in effect start museum mile. It’s also a gate-way building, it is a building that announces east Harlem. The building is organized, in by the era of African American history of the United States. The building is name after Reginald f. Lewis, who was an entrepreneur who become the first black people who made the first 500 list. My museum is divided by the era of African American history, Pre-colonial ,Colonial Pre –civil war, Civil war, Post-civil war, Post 1900’s , Post 1965’s ,And current .Over the summer I visited the holocaust museum in Washington dc, I really like the organization of it. The design is that when you enter that my museum, you go up tp the top floor of the exhibition floor, then you walk you way down to the each exhibit, through my atrium space. Where you will see sculptures, a place to rest (café), and different views of central park as you walk your way down. you start on the fifth floor, walk your way down each exhibit , one thing that I also thought about , it’s the handicap people, where there is a glass elevator through the atrium so that they will experience the same view, finally come to the first floor, where you will see the gift shop Etc…And the lower lever, are my changing exhibits and lecture hall. Elevations, there are made of cooper and lenoux glass, as you can see , my south west elevation, atrium space, double glazes, glass with brise soleil made of solar glass, both horizontal and vertical to cut off the southern sun and the late afternoon sun. Material is made of copper deformed panel, like the walker museum in Minneapolis. Each panel are deformed on a different way. As the light hit them it’s not one façade, they will change look. Sections, for organization of the building, the six floor is for administration, and classrooms and library, the café is between the first and second floor overlooking central park. The structural system, is steel frame building, the mechanical system is variable volume, and here is my wall section. Through the atrium space. The major space, is the lecture hall. Where I used stained glass with, the floor of my building is made of polish concrete, Recycled materials. There is some kind of heating system, where the chimney is at the back corner where the main back wall is use for heating and cooling system.
