77: Latinx Lit Fall 2019

Editor’s Note: This semester (Fall 2019), I had the privilege of teaching English 77: Introduction to Latino Literature as a dualenrollment course at Chaffey High School. My section was comprised of young Latina/Chicana scholars, whom I learned so much from. We focused on the novel The Book of Unknown American by Cristina Henríquez (a former One Book, One College text here at Chaffey College), the short story collection Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros, and a variety of poems and articles written by Latinx writers. We had the opportunity to write about, discuss, present and create art based on many themes found within the texts. Themes we familiarized ourselves with are illustrated within these one-page examples I’ve compiled into this digital zine. Each page was hand-picked by its zine creator to demonstrate their knowledge and connection to the topics and texts from the semester. This zine is hosted by Pour Vida, a digital literary zine, and is linked through Chaffey College's digital catalog. To my Fall '19 Eng. 77 community: I'm proud, inspired and humbled by your works.
