Electric Baseboard Heaters: Work Principle and Types

Winter is fast approaching and the weather is getting colder and colder. Thoughts about heat are prevalent in everyone’s mind. As the cold season begins to set in, it is important to be well prepared. For years, electric heaters perfectly coped with the task of providing heat. Due to these electric devices, your home becomes comfortable and provides a nice atmosphere. There are several types of electric heaters. One of them is the electric baseboard heater. This heater is designed to line the wall. The baseboard heater works mainly on the principle of convection, instead of radiation. Radiation is that warm glow you feel. Conversion is the air circulation, which depends on the air temperature. The electric baseboard heater heats the immediate air and it begins to rise up through whole space of the room. At the same time, the cold air begins to fall down to the floor only with one purpose – to be immediately heated. So, the cycle is generated. Thisprocess continues until the entire room is warm and toasty. Baseboard heaters traditionally have 500 watts to 1500 watts of power and usually cover anywhere between 50 to 150 square feet. Electric baseboard heaters can be hardwired or portable. The main difference between the portable baseboard heater and the hardwired baseboard heater is portability and power. The hardwired unit is more effective in providing heat than the portable one, but on the other hand a portable unit can be easy replaced without worrying about installation.
