Scientists from Georgia Institute of Technology Taught Robots to Cheat
A team of American scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology announced the development of algorithms that will allow robots to deceive other smart machines, as well as people. In this case, Robots-liars are able to choose an optimal strategy themselves, which will depend on circumstances of a specific situation. Scientists have conducted tests on two robots equipped with cameras as they played a game of hide and seek.
The one that was hiding, if necessary, knocked down markers that were standing on the floor, thereby confusing the other smart robot. The smarter one managed to deceive another one with a probability of 75%. Researchers noted that the ability of robots to cheat will be used very rarely. Nevertheless, this is an important component of their functional arsenal because a robot that knows how to cheat has an advantage over another who doesn’t have such abilities. According to the conclusion of scientists, these algorithms can be useful in
future; for example, for military purposes, for search and rescue operations, or in case the robot needs to hide valuable information.
