Wicked Musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman Wicked is a musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire entitled The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles due to their opposing personalities, rivalry over the same love interest, and their reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government. The plot is set before and during Dorothy's arrival from Kansas. At the beginning of the musical, Glinda is asked by someone from the crowd if it’s true that she and the witch are friends. Glinda is very reluctant to answer this question but she answers affirmatively, and the scene changes a few years earlier at the University of Shiz, when she first met the Witch. One after another new students arrive to the university (Dear Old Shiz, as its affectionately called). Among them are Galinda Aplend and daughters of the governor Elphaba and Nessaroza Thorpe. The father gives favor to Nessaroze (who is paralyzed and in a wheelchair, wearing silver shoes), and reminds his green-skinned Elphaba that her main task at the university is to take care about her sister. Elphaba is trying to get acquainted with students, but they flee from her, disgusted by her skin color. The Headmistress of the University appears, imposing Madame Morribl to take Nessaroza under her wing, but Elphaba doesn't agree and requests that Nessaroza stays with her. At this time Elphaba discovers she has a magical gift (which is especially strong when she gets mad) and Nessaroza’s wheelchair is pulled out of the hands of the headmistress and is drawn to Elphaba with her gift of magic. Morribl promises to place Elphaba in a magic class and to arranges a meeting with the Wizard. Left alone, Elphaba dreams about meeting with the Wizard, how he'll appreciate her magical gift, and how there will never be a better team than the Wizard and Elphaba in Oz… Buy tickets right now and watch this show in your town!
