Ashley Maria is a director, writer, producer, and location sound mixer known for her work on many feature & short films, new media, and television commercials. She has received a number of awards during her career, including a recent “Best New Director” from the DTLA Film Festival and the prestigious Directors Guild of America (DGA) award. In a follow-up ceremony, the DGA Women’s Steering Committee declared her to be a filmmaker “who represents the future of women in film.” Ashley is best known for her films and media work, including the comedy & horror shorts — Friday Night Fright and Volcano Girl, and her 2020 breakthrough production Pioneers in Skirts, Ashley is also an advocate for advancing women’s opportunities. She is a North American delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women – the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women. When not on set, Ashley is a directing instructor at UCLA’s Film School and a sound instructor at the American Film Institute’s Young Women in Film program. Prior to transitioning to a freelance career, Ashley earned over 10 years of studio production experience with Sony Pictures Television, Mark Burnett Productions, and ESPN. Ashley hails from the Tar Heel state of North Carolina. She grew up in Raleigh; receiving her undergraduate degree in Media Production from UNC-Chapel Hill.
