HENRY MOORE Henry Moore is generally acknowledged as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century and from the late 1940s until his death was recognised as the most celebrated British artist of his time. The son of a Yorkshire miner, he served in the First world war, before gaining a scholarship to the Royal College of Art. Although by the 1930s Moore was already recognised as the leading avant-garde sculptor in England, it was his graphic work as a Second world war artist that brought him to the attention of the British public. The publication of his famous Shelter Sketchbook in 1966/7 was accompanied by a small series of wonderful lithographs, some of which are offered here. Other prints offered here are from Moore’s suite Meditations on the Effigy – A Seventieth Birthday Portfolio, and are, in a sense, recollections in tranquility of a lifetime of creative enterprise. Many of the prints offered here are from the collection of the late art dealer Harry Fischer, co-founder of Marlborough Fine Art and founder of Fischer Fine Art. Please note that many of the prints from the Fischer collection are on large sheets. They will be float-mounted in oak frames. The frame size will be slightly larger than the paper size shown.
