FUNDRAISERS for Churches

Spotlight On:

Church Fundraisers 4 great options for funding your ministry efforts Dutch Mill Bulbs

Jeff Ellenberger, President

William Rice, Co-Publisher

What elements of your fundraiser are most appealing to churches? Our brochure and online programs are easy to administrate — and the product is easy to sell. (Everybody loves flowers!) Every plant and bulb is guaranteed to grow and bloom; otherwise, we’ll replace that product. Price-wise, our bulbs are low-cost and high-profit.

What elements of your fundraiser are most appealing to churches? Fundraising cookbooks stand out because they engage the church community, as well as raise valuable ministry funds. Who doesn’t like to show off and share their favorite recipes — and see their name in print? People often buy cookbooks to give as gifts, or to use them themselves. Our website makes the cookbook’s creation and design easy. Church members are invited to participate; they even enter their favorite recipes. Pre-designed layouts and religious-themed covers ensure quick, simple printing.

What groups within a church have the most success selling your fundraiser? We’ve seen youth and adult groups do very well. But, a successful fundraiser always depends on a good group leader — enthusiastic, organized and goal-driven. Sales are motivated by leadership. What advice can you offer to churches selling your fundraiser? Besides appointing a motivated, organized group leader, we recommend: • Have fun! Set a realistic, attainable dollar goal. • Initiate with a kickoff meeting. Stress the importance of everyone’s participation. Set clear start / end dates (two to three weeks, ideally). • Spread the word beyond the congregation. Involve the community through social media, local media outlets, bulletin boards at work, and posters in local businesses. • Consider timing. Try not to compete with other community fundraisers. • Hold a wrap-up meeting. Announce results, recognize top sellers, and thank everyone involved.

What groups within a church have the most success selling your fundraiser? We’ve seen youth groups, choirs, women’s groups and capital campaigns all benefit. The more people involved, the better — and that’s where our online communication tools can really help to engage and motivate people. What advice can you offer to churches selling your fundraiser? One of the best things about church cookbooks is that you don’t “sell” them — they sell themselves! You start by inviting everyone to submit their best recipes online. Then, you ask how many copies each contributor wants. You’ll also find that community members outside the church are willing to purchase local cookbooks.

Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraising Program

Lisa Emig, Marketing Services Manager

Dan Kielman, VP of Marketing

What elements of your fundraiser are most appealing to churches? Everyone loves pizza! In fact, most people buy it at least once a week. With the brand name of Little Caesars, buyers know they’re getting the quality and value they expect. Each Kit includes more than one pizza (or bread). Plus, our fundraiser is easy to run — something the fundraising program coordinator will appreciate.

What elements of your fundraiser are most appealing to churches? Churches have been fundraising with our kitchen knives, cooking utensils and cutlery gift sets since 1948, when our company was founded. They appreciate being able to sell kitchen products that are 100% Made in the USA, and that their supporters want (and need). Also, the church is buying directly from the manufacturer, which means buyers get a remarkable value — and the church is able to help fund its programs.

What groups within a church have the most success selling your fundraiser? Because pizza is so well-loved, all groups have the same potential for success. If your group is motivated and excited, the fundraiser will be profitable! We’ve helped raise funds for the overall needs of church mission and youth groups, daycares, auxiliary groups, and building improvement funds. Pizza Kits have also been the fundraiser of choice for church groups looking to fund a specific need, such as choir robes or hymnals. What advice can you offer to churches selling your fundraiser? Get the word out! Let their friends, family, and congregants know that it’s Pizza Kit time. Use social media, email and posters around the church and your community. Mention your fundraiser in your church bulletin and weekly announcements. Optimal time(s) of year to host

What groups within a church have the most success selling your fundraiser? Over 68 years, we’ve worked with about every variation of church group and cause imaginable! Usually, however, it’s either the women’s group or youth group. The causes are wide-ranging — mission trips, church camps, building funds, food pantries, Vacation Bible School, as well as Relay For Life teams, to name just a few. What advice can you offer to churches selling your fundraiser? Sell fundraising products that you’re proud to offer to your friends, family and co-workers. More than 145 million pieces of Rada Cutlery have been sold over the years, and your church group will benefit from that reputation for quality and value. Profit potential

Upfront costs

Rada Cutlery

The biggest shipping times are late spring and pre-Christmas — especially in November and December as people purchase the cutlery as a Christmas gift.

The church fundraising profit will average 40% and above based on the mix of products sold. Some big-selling items (such as paring knives) return a 44% profit margin, while gift sets are slightly below 40% profit. Stoneware, gift books and quick mixes generally drive profit percentages of 40% and higher.

Only the cost of samples (optional) applies. The first 10 catalogs, per year, are free; additional catalogs cost $.20 each. (This fee is waived with $1,000 in sales.) Some churches sell the cutlery from inventory at bazaars, craft shows or after worship services. In these cases, the inventory is bought at wholesale, and the church keeps all the proceeds.

Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraising Program

Four of the top five biggest pizza-eating days occur in the fall: Halloween, the day before Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Many groups earn higher profits when they run this fundraiser with delivery before those key dates.

The church earns $5-$6 in profit per Kit. Most individuals can sell five to seven Kits; however, 10, 15, even 20 Kits sold is common.

None; order forms and up to three posters are provided for free. Custom delivery to your location is also free with a minimum order of 100 Kits.

Family Cookbook Project

People love to give cookbooks — including their own their recipes — as gifts. Start by mid-October to ensure Christmas gift-giving.

Church cookbooks often sell for two to four times the cost of printing. Example: A church cookbook that costs $4 to print can sell for $15 to $20. Adding community advertising might even cover the entire printing cost!

The church must pay for printing once all recipes are collected and the cookbook is designed. Taking preorders often generates enough cash to cover this upfront cost.

Dutch Mill Bulbs

Many churches report the best success in the fall, spring or both.

Minimum 50% profit earned on every None; sales brochures, order forms package of bulbs sold (brochure & and custom links for online sales online; spring and fall). Orders submitted provided for free. by mail with payment (check or money order) qualify for an additional 2% discount. Sales of 300+ packages earn cash rebates.

Dutch Mill Bulbs, Inc. Since 1960, Dutch Mill Bulbs, Inc., has helped thousands of groups exceed their fundraising goals. Often imitated but never duplicated, we are the originators of flower bulb fundraising.

While some companies offer a selection of programs with several product options, flower bulbs are our only business. We import Holland’s finest from the most reputable growers, and inspect and package everything at our temperature-controlled facility near Hershey, PA. Our spring program offers a selection of 18 spring planting / summer-blooming favorites, and the fall program offers a selection of 18 fall-planting / spring-blooming favorites. Each package is printed with easy-to-follow planting instructions, and everything is guaranteed to grow and bloom. Selling Dutch Mill Bulbs is simple and fun! There are three selling options from which to choose: Brochure, Online, and combined Brochure + Online. You earn at least 50% profit on every package of bulbs sold. No matter which option is right for you and your group, they’re all easy to administrate. Brochure Sale: Colorful brochures and support materials are provided free of charge. A selling period of two to three weeks — encompassing two weekends — is recommended. Once completed, orders may be submitted online, by phone at (800) 533-8824, by fax at (800) 556-0539, or by mail. The profit goes right into your treasury, and the balance is paid via check, money order or major credit card to Dutch Mill Bulbs. Orders submitted without payment are invoiced (net 30 days). Orders mailed with payment via check or money order earn an additional 2% discount. Sales of 300+ packages qualify for a $.05 per package rebate. Online Sale: We’ll build a free web page customized for your group. Customers anywhere throughout the contiguous United States can go online to click, pay and have their bulbs shipped directly to them. Extend the reach of your fundraiser using the power of social media. All sales earn 50% profit. You’ll receive sales updates via email, and a monthly profit check. The site may remain active the entire length of the season (spring – March 15 thru June 1; fall – September 15 thru December 1), or it can be shut down at your discretion. Brochure + Online Sale: Maximize your profit potential! Experience has proven that groups opting for this combination are most successful. Why? Because the brochure sale allows personal sales to family, friends and neighbors within the community. The online sale extends the reach of your sale beyond the community. Plus, as previously mentioned, your custom web page can remain “live” the entire length of the selling season to continue capturing sales after your brochure sale has concluded. Everybody loves flowers! It’s easy to “green up” your treasury — and your community — when offering economically priced, eco-friendly flower bulbs and plants. Let our 50+ years of experience and no-risk programs show you how. We look forward to the opportunity to work with your group.

We’re a family-owned company that started from our strong commitment to community and family. As a longtime supporter of local sports teams, the founders of Little Caesars could see the need for additional funding continue to grow year after year.
