A CHALLENGE FROM PASTOR BRAD… SHARE SHARE—GOSPEL CONVERSATIONS How did you first hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Who shared the story of Jesus and His death and resurrection with you? Who told you of His love, His grace, His holiness, His mercy? Who led you to the Lord? Rom 10:13-14 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (14) How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? Summer is the perfect time for Gospel Conversations… at the pool, on vacation, with your family, with your neighbors. Every conversation can be a Gospel Conversation with the help of the Holy Spirit. Here are foursteps to take this summer to have more meaningful and eternally significant conversations…
1. SIGN UP at WWW.BLESSEVERYHOME.COM to begin praying by name for your neighbors and looking for ways to be a blessing in your neighborhood. 2. PRAY for opportunities to share the Gospel and PRAY for the Holy Spirit to spur you to speak. 3. WATCH for needs in your community and as you seek to meet those needs through love, share the Good News that drives you to love your neighbor as yourself. 4. WRITE a handwritten letter to an old friend or family member who is in need of Gospel encouragement and share your testimony of the grace and mercy of Jesus. 5. SHARE your stories on Sunday mornings of how God is using you to spread the Good News to Powhatan and beyond. #OPBCPRAY
Summer is often a time for relaxation and enjoying nature. And often a time for reading several good books. I have a lengthy list of books I plan to enjoy reading this Summer… but if I had to choose only ONE BOOK to read… surprise, surprise… it would be the BIBLE. Will you join me on a Bible Reading Challenge for the Summer? Let’s read the FOUR GOSPELS, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John together this Summer.
JULY 1-7: READ MATTHEW 1-10 JULY 8-14: READ MATTHEW 11-20 JULY 15-21: READ MATTHEW 21-28 JULY 22-28: READ MARK1-16 JULY 29-AUGUST 4: READ LUKE 1-10 AUGUST 5-11: READ LUKE 11-19 AUGUST 12-18: READ LUKE 20-24 AUGUST 19-25: READ JOHN 1-11 AUGUST 26-31: READ JOHN 12-21
God has condescended to become an author, and yet people will not read his writings. There are very few that ever gave this Book of God, the grand charter of salvation, one fair reading through. George Whitfield 2

Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation." And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything'? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke11:1-13) What if, each day this summer, we began our days by praying through each clause or phrase of verses 2-4, the Lord’s Prayer? Take each clause or phrase as a topic and praise and petition the Lord based on the words of Jesus. Under these topics, what would you pray for? PRAY FOR YOUR OWN HEART: To become more like Jesus… 1. Pray for Spiritual Fruit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, Self Control. 2. Pray for yourself as a… worshipper, worker, servant, spouse, child, sibling, friend, ambassador of Jesus. 3. Pray for your own heart as you struggle with… doubts, fears, suffering, stress. PRAY FOR YOUR CHURCH: To become more and more of who we are meant to be… 1. Pray for relational issues: Unity, Love, Compassion, Forgiveness, Discernment 2. Pray for witness issues: Our hearts in Worship, Outreach, Evangelism, Serving the Community and Nations 3. Pray for the People of OPBC 4. Pray for the Summer Mission Teams headed out this summer
