Neal honored by board

OWHATAN – Powhatan County sheriff Greg Neal was honored by the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors last week in recognition of his retirement after 34 years of law enforcement in the county. The county held a reception for Neal before the board’s meeting on Monday, Dec. 7, and then recognized him during the meeting when the supervisors unanimously passed a resolution to honor him. Neal announced in February that he would retire at

OWHATAN – The majority of Powhatan County’s local elected officials were sworn into office last week in two ceremonies held at the Powhatan County Courthouse. Brad Nunnally and two of his senior officers were sworn in on Monday, Dec. 7, while the members of the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors and School Board and three constitutional officers took their oath of office on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Powhatan pharmacist remembered for commitment, caring nature By Meredith Rigsby Richmond Suburban News

ames Gregg, owner of two pharmacies in Powhatan and a well-known figure in the community, was a man of few words, but family members and friends agree his dedication to both his business and his family was unmatched. James “Jim” Gregg, 72, of Powhatan, died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, leaving behind his wife of 50 years, Carol Gregg, sons, Donnie and Scott Gregg, and a

host of other people who will miss him greatly. The owner of Powhatan Pharmacy, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in business this year, James Gregg was a “one-man show,” at times working all day, leaving to go home and eat dinner with his family and heading right back up to the pharmacy to help a customer. A joke James Gregg could often be heard saying was that he worked the “B” shift, meaning “he would be there in the morning when [the pharmacy]

opened, and he would be there at night when it closed,” his son, Scott Gregg, said. When James Gregg bought and opened his own pharmacy, Powhatan Pharmacy, in 1975, he was fulfilling one of his lifelong dreams. Before that, he had been working for Manchester Drugstore since he graduated from MCV School of Pharmacy in 1967. Carol Gregg said her husband was very dedicated and was constantly thinking about serving his customers.
