Norbord Norbord is a leading manufacturer of wood-based panel products. Our products are used extensively in the construction and furniture sectors, both by professionals and by DIY enthusiasts. Our aim is to supply an environmentally friendly, quality product. The wood used in Caberwood MDF comes from sustainably managed forests, which means that the full Caberwood MDF range can carry the FSC quality mark.

Caberwood MDF Caberwood MDF is Europe’s oldest and original MDF with a history stretching back to 1966. Since then, Caberwood MDF has been the first choice of DIY enthusiasts and professionals such as product designers, joiners and furniture makers who appreciate the product’s excellent properties and good price/quality ratio. Norbord can always guarantee the highest quality because we are constantly improving our manufacturing processes and investing in product development. Caberwood MDF is available in four versions, suitable for a variety of applications in the surface finishing, furniture and interior design sectors in both dry and humid conditions.

The product range Caberwood Pro Caberwood Pro has a wide range of applications and is used extensively in the surface finishing, furniture and interior design sectors. Professionals value the board for its uniform consistency and high density, its quality, ease of use and its suitability for various machine and manual processes and surface finishing.

Caberwood Trade Caberwood Trade is a versatile product suitable for general purpose use including many of the same applications as Caberwood Pro. With the same high quality as Caberwood Pro, Caberwood Trade is ideal for lightweight constructions, making it popular with shopfitters, exhibition stand builders and caravan manufacturers.

Caberwood Pro MR Caberwood Pro MR is the moisture-resistant version of Caberwood Pro. It is therefore ideal for interior applications in environments which are occasionally exposed to moisture such as kitchen and bathroom furniture, as well as window ledges and decorative frames in kitchens and bathrooms.

Caberwood Trade MR Caberwood Trade MR is the moisture-resistant version of Caberwood Trade and can generally be used for the same purposes as Caberwood Pro MR. Caberwood Pro MR and Caberwood Trade MR are particularly suitable for lightweight constructions in kitchens and bathrooms.

Investing in the environment Norbord is committed both to its customers and to the environment. That’s why all our wood comes from sustainably managed forests. Our European plants manufacture to the standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council. As a result, all our MDF and chipboard products carry the FSC certificate of sustainable production. Over the past 25 years we have invested heavily in environmentally sustainable technologies such as air-cleaning systems and recycling facilities. As much as 50% of the energy we use comes from our own Norbord biomass power plant. By conserving and reusing materials and resources, we safeguard the environment and at the same time keep our costs down. In turn, our customers benefit from a sustainable, quality product with an excellent price/quality ratio. All Norbord production facilities are ISO 14001 certified.

Storage and assembly tips Transport and storage

Assembly

For safety reasons and to prevent damage, Caberwood MDF panels must be transported and stored: • in uniform stacks on a stable, flat base; • insulated from the ground; • at room temperature and in a dry, well ventilated space; • at a safe distance from sources of combustion and heat.

Caberwood MDF panels should be joined with adhesives. Screws and nails can be used to make temporary joints. The panels can also be joined together using glued dowels and grooved pins. For lighter applications, the boards can also be stapled.

Processing

Thanks to their smooth surface, Caberwood MDF panels are suitable for a variety of finishes, including veneering, lamination, staining and painting. A transparent stain can be used to produce a naturallooking result. Different effects can be created by applying a stain or a coat of matt or high-gloss varnish.

Thanks to its smooth surface and even density, Caberwood MDF is easy to process, assemble and finish. Its fine fibre structure prevents it from splintering and makes it ideal for machining operations such as sanding, sawing, drilling and cutting.
