Norbord Norbord is a leading manufacturer of wood-based panel products. Our products are used extensively in the construction and furniture sectors, both by professionals and by DIY enthusiasts. Our aim is to supply a high quality, environmentally friendly product. The wood used in SterlingOSB comes from sustainably managed forests and is manufactured in an FSC-certified production plant in Inverness (Scotland), which means that the full OSB product range can carry the FSC mark of sustainable production. SterlingOSB OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is one of the most important recent innovations in the wood industry. An Oriented Strand Board consists of three layers of ‘flakes’ lying across each other and resin-bonded together under high pressure. The result is a very strong, hardwearing and economical structural board which is easy to use. SterlingOSB is by far the strongest and most versatile OSB board on the market. Available in two versions and with a square or tongueand-groove edge, SterlingOSB is suitable for use in general and loadbearing applications in both dry and humid conditions.

The product range SterlingOSB2 For general and load-bearing applications in dry conditions SterlingOSB2 is an low-cost structural board for general and loadbearing applications in dry conditions. It can be used for a wide variety of applications such as site hoardings and garden sheds as well as for crates and pallets.

SterlingOSB3 For general and load-bearing applications in all conditions SterlingOSB3 is an all-round structural board for general and loadbearing applications in dry and humid conditions. SterlingOSB3 is the number one choice for a huge range of applications in housebuilding, commercial construction, timber-frame construction, flooring, walls, portable buildings and roof edges.

Storage and assembly tips Processing SterlingOSB is easy to work with and can be easily sawn and drilled. The tongue-and-groove boards are always sanded, whereas the square-edged boards are supplied unsanded. For decorative applications, the boards can be profiled and sanded down further and, if desired, stained or varnished. Assembly The boards should preferably be secured using stainless steel or galvanised ring-shank nails, wood screws or staples. To prevent splitting, nails must be fixed at least 8 mm from the edge of the board. For additional rigidity, glue can be applied in the tongue and groove joint of the flooring panels. When laying the panels, users should leave a 2 mm gap per linear metre as a contraction/expansion joint, with a minimum of 10 mm.

Storage In common with other wood-based materials, SterlingOSB boards may expand or contract when exposed to changes of moisture in the atmosphere. Therefore before use the boards must be left for at least 48 hours to acclimatise in the room in which they are to be used or in a room with the same conditions. The panels should preferably be stored horizontally in a dry, sheltered, well ventilated room and in stacks of 8 panels, separated by 15 cm wide bearers spaced an equal distance apart (70-100 cm).
