MANDARIN ORIENTAL APARTMENTS DUPLEX LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014
MANDARIN ORIENTAL APARTMENTS DUPLEX LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014
The principle concept established for this project at the Mandarin Oriental in Macau, is to embody tranquility at its essence through capturing the elements of nature. The Tree is symbolic of being protective, sheltering and being able to nurture life-giving energy. The idea is to allow its occupants to enter a nature-inspired living space, where they could feel relaxed and safe within the comfort of their own home. Abstract tree branches encircle the living area are accentuated by the autumn leaves which project along the curved decorative feature. This curved feature along with the reflective ceiling feature recreates an experience akin to laying under a tree with reveals of light breaking though the tree canopy. Earthy tones and choice of natural materials enhances the natural feeling within the space. The wall hung grey marble TV wall extends along the corridor wall; the corridor opens up to a cozy corner for enjoying your favourite beverage. Contrasting with the material used on the wall, the warm wooden flooring covered with a stone shape rug captures the essence of nature.

THE HK PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT MODEL HOUSE & SMALL HOTEL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2014-2015
THE HK PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT MODEL HOUSE & SMALL HOTEL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2014-2015 This is a 260 square foot public housing unit in Hong Kong. By fully utilizing the space, this unit was converted into a 2 bedroom home capable of accommodating up to 9 persons to sleep over. Once you enter through the door, you are greeted with the warming glow of pine and other natural materials. A long solid oak dining table dominates the main living space. This space is entirely multi-functional and can serve different uses, determined by subtle changes in the configuration of the furniture. As well as being able to host a number of guests for dinner parties, with a quick slide of the sofa, the space opens up to enjoy watching some entertainment on the large TV screen, recessed into some wood panel detailing. The clever use and placement of mirrors, frosted glass and lighting opens the space more by creating the illusion of spaciousness. Day light has been maximized by cleverly designed translucent panels and reflective ceiling features.

CHI ON JARDINE’S LOOKOUT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2012﹣2013
CHI ON JARDINE’S LOOKOUT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2012﹣2013
In traditional Chinese culture, chi (also qi) is an active principle forming part of any living thing. It is frequently translated as ‘natural energy flow’ and it literally means ‘breath’ or ‘air’. People believed Chi permeated everything and linked their surroundings together. They likened it to the flow of energy around and through the body and environment, forming a cohesive and functioning unit. By understanding its rhythm and flow they believed they could balance the elements of Chi to make one’s home soothing and comfortable. With the above understanding and knowledge, a harmonious interaction of Chi enhancing Feng Shui and modern contemporary design was the foundation of this apartment design. Walking into the Living Area, a feature that immediately catches the eye is the inbuilt fish tank set within the display shelving, another important feature and purposefully positioned to Traditional Feng Shui methodology. There is a sense of fun and liveliness resulting from the irregularity of the display shelving, the free style Ligne Roset Togo Sofa and the colour rich Paul Smith swirl design carpet.

Approaching the Foyer, you would be forgiven if you had found yourself mistaking this as an entrance to a Taoist place of worship. Based on Traditional Feng Shui, the Main Entrance is a very important space as this is the focal point where Chi is channeled, constantly replenishing and circulating throughout the living spaces, enhancing the well being of its occupants. It is the ‘Mouth of Chi’, as with the human body, the front door is also the way nutrition (energy) enters home. The position of the Main Entrance door has thusly been carefully considered to nourish the house and cultivate the health and wealth of the family.

DEEP IN NATURE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013﹣2014

DEEP IN NATURE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014
This project is about bringing back Nature into the urban chaos we have become accustomed to; a place to come home to and be able to let go of the daily stress and frenzy of modern city life. In the dining room, the main appeal is the storage and display which takes form as a tree starting from floor to ceiling and then along the ceiling, creating a canopy over the 9 foot long extendable dining table. The tree feature even bears fruit in the form of Catellani & Smith pendants that gives the feature further three dimensional depth. The living room space has been laid out with modern trendy furnishing and fittings. There is a hand-made art feature, created by the designer, doubling as a sliding screen which conceals a large TV screen. Adjoining the living room is the balcony that has been enlarged to 130 square feet complete with wood decking, gravel and a breath-taking sea view. The large windows in both the dining and living room allows a lot of natural light and ventilation into the home.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL APARTMENTS STUDIO MODEL HOUSE & SMALL HOTEL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014
MANDARIN ORIENTAL APARTMENTS STUDIO MODEL HOUSE & SMALL HOTEL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014 It is a 450 square feet open-plan studio. It is commissioned by a client for lease purpose and this modern cozy design targets on young couples. Instead of locating the bed at the corner or with a large backdrop that most people usually do, the designer has chosen to place it at the middle of the room. Together with the bar table as well as sofa, all 3 functioning area united into one giant structure for this studio.Leaving the other edges for TV wall, study desk and wardrobe. This saves a lot of space for this tiny flat. The position of the bed also enhanced the best view of the studio. Also, the mirror at the entrance corridor enlarged the space visually. The cinema chair is used at the sofa area because it allows extra seating when serving friends but to maintain a comfortable walking space when it’s not being occupied.

VILLA LOTTO LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2011-2012
The designer has integrated the dining area and the living area perfectly. He did not set any boundaries so that the room becomes more flexible whilst amplifying the feeling of spaciousness. The space there evolves into a versatile area. The aim for this is to influence the family members in this apartment to have more interaction and communication with each other. The wall storage display is designed for presenting miscellaneous items. The wall storage is divided irregularly, reflecting the fascinating array of frames as showcased in art galleries. A sliding wood veneer door, creating the illusion of a wider space, conceals the narrow corridor. The size of the sliding door doubles as a screen to cover up any unsightly mess. The designer sculpted the cooking utensils into decorative pendant lamps for the children’s room as well. It gives a warming feeling and provides some amusement throughout the house. Moreover, the space between the children’s room and the corridor is replaced by multi-colour glass partitions instead of the traditional concrete wall. The glass panels allow the bright natural light to be a part of the form, bringing a delightful ambience into the room.

CAPE MANSIONS RAW & INDUSTRIAL RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2013-2014 Collaborative Interior Design Project with Taiwanese Artists Master Wei Bin Hsu and Miss Tsao – A truly timeless space combining natural and recycled materials. With natural resources becoming increasingly scarce, we were eager to look towards the conservation of nature via the use of natural sustainable and recycled materials. The combination of these materials were used to create a cozy and comfortable home environment with notes of modern styling. The living room and dining was accentuated with concrete walls and rattan furniture creating a natural and minimalistic style throughout the spaces. A pendant light in the dining area, with is metalwork shade brings an element of industrial flavour to contrast against the natural styling. The finishing of some walls are mottled providing a unique decorative texture. The rawness of the concrete wall that features in the living room was manually created by the designer with areas intentionally retained in a smooth finish to represent a historical relic.

NORDIC FOREST (1 BEDROOM) COUNTRY STYLE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014
NORDIC FOREST (1BEDROOM) COUNTRY STYLE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, MACAU, 2013-2014 The design concept of this project ties in with that of fantasy, reminiscent of a forest themed fairy tale. It reflects upon Scandinavian styles, creating a natural and minimalistic atmosphere within the apartment. By decorating the interior with a warm tone and using natural materials, makes the composition warm and cozy. The open plan design allows for an unobstructed visual experience. The design theme attempts to whisk away the occupants into a land of fantasy, where they can live as if in a dream, foregoing their worries and troubles in life. Careful use of materials, lighting and colour coordination accentuates the experience, which lies within each space. The pale green living room, the use of pastel colours with the Nordic design elements brings about a cheerful, yet tranquil atmosphere. The chic lighting and hanging wires make the pure white ceiling look lively, whilst blue wires bring it more stylish and shape this inhabitation in a more different way. The ceiling lighting, composed of loose hanging wires, animates the ceiling, like the branches swaying with the wind.

This unit is designed to be an organic part of the greater environment. Created for a minimalist attitude, it also invokes feelings of pragmatism and richness in strategic areas of the home. The main theme here is to emphasis a minimalist attitude for the sake of keeping visible space and to exude a sense of wideness. The concept was derived from having both a minimalist theme and in having an intuitive link to the immediate environment of Repulse Bay. It succeeds in marrying the pragmatic elements of daily living, while producing the desired organic feel of natural wood on a white, clean background. This apartment represents one of the precious few moments where the ideals of luxury, pragmatism, and minimalism manages to harmonise into an exciting yet peaceful living home.

THE BELMONT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
THE BELMONT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
To make the project a natural and clean aesthetic space to live in, a dominant color scheme of pale white was kept, with warm touches of walnut veneer. The open balcony design allows light to flow freely throughout the apartment, building a greater connection to the outdoors. At the same time, this maximizes the space of the living room, fulfilling the flexibility and functional needs of the apartment.
To maximize the ceiling height while hiding the large beam across the apartment, a non-traditional four-sides glowing ceiling was designed, which also gently divide the space into the living and dining area.Echoing the extensive sofa is the gigantic and complex structure of book shelves. The glossy black sliding door of the shelves acts as a visual interest of the space, as well as fulfilling the practical need of a tidy storage space. The uncluttered, clean and linear theme is extended into the master bedroom through the continuous use of the beautiful white oak flooring and walnut veneer finishing.

LARVOTTO LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
Inspired by the sea, blessed by nature and crafted with creativity – the Larvotto is the modern definition of unprecedented luxurious living that embraces endless possibilities. Amidst the lushness of the mountains and shimmer of the sea lies an oceanic theme at heart of this iconic beauty, designed ingeniously by esteemed designer to withstand the test of time. Larvotto’s bond to nature is significant, impressive, and well-illustrated in its interior design. For instance, stucco wall paint used in the bedroom backdrop symbolises the sea wave pattern while blue colour glass used for the walk-in closet symbolises water in the sea, bringing the entire oceanic theme straight to the heart of the apartment.

THE GALLERY HOME ARTISTIC RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2009﹣2010
THE GALLERY HOME ARTISTIC RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2009﹣2010
When contemporary art and raw hues cross paths, a living space with the flair of an art gallery and the complexion of nature comes alive. Beginning with the theme palette, art is thick in the air in the dining area where earth tones of gray and coffee rule. You could place an oil painting anywhere on the floor to brighten up the room while retaining its minimalistic beauty. The gray feature wall with its layers of cement that were brushed on by hand makes an interesting contrast to the raw wood dining table. The space is awash with exotic charm as hanging lamps break into a pale warm yellow atmosphere. Walking towards the living area, you can watch your world change as refreshing white tones take over your senses. White accentuates the space and lightens the heavy feel of the dark-coloured dining area. Grey reflective bars running down the wall add colour to the monotonous surface, beautifying the dining area in an enigmatic fashion.

CORNWALL TERRACE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
The project is situated in a very quiet location within a very busy urban environment. It is a large size apartment hosting 5 family members. The design brief is to create a space that is modern, minimal and sustainable. Therefore, the major approach in this design project is to use green materials and energy saving products. In terms of the design layout, the kitchen has been modified to a semi open kitchen with a semi open bar area and a large piece of clear glass to replace the original solid walls. This also satisfied the modern and minimal approach as well as to suit the massive Asian cooking style. The treatment at the corridor and the door frames of the bedrooms is to adapt the feeling of a 5 star boutique hotel. With the enlarged corridor, oversized door frame and the featured infinity mirror box at the end of the corridor, each family member enjoys the privacy before entering to their own bedroom. Carpet is used in all bedroom area in order to create the feeling of being in the hotel room as well.

ISLAND RESORT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
ISLAND RESORT LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
With a classic white palette as the main theme for the entire room, this interior design project does not have a strong colour impact. It maintains a simple and natural atmosphere that brings forth a lively and fresh sense of space. Line and structure are used to convey a perception of vitality to the space instead of pursuing a strong color scheme.

76 WING ON LODGE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
The project was to create a contemporary and natural ambience which also answers all functional necessities. The light color scheme and the mustard feature wall bring a sensation of warmth and harmony. Hidden wardrobes not only provide abundant storage but also decorate the room. The glass sliding door is another feature. With the door opened, it serves as a bar, where you enjoy your sparkling wine. With the door closed, it separates the kitchen and the living room, without scarifying any visibility. Together with the massive application of energy-saving LED lamps, it becomes a truly peaceful space to live in. Overall, the application of patterns and lines of symmetry were integrated into the design features of the flat. The style of the customised dining table echoes the circular motif of the three round pendant lamps above it. A contemporary feel was accomplished throughout with the sloped edges of the glass sliding door, the slightly inclined bar, and the striped feature wall.

THE JOYFUL TREE HOUSE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2011-2012
THE JOYFUL TREE HOUSE LUXURY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2011-2012
The essence of this project is to extend the boundaries of aestheticism, creating a home that is both a sanctuary as well as a gallery. The tree-inspired design motifs within this space are aplenty, and aim to make residents feel at peace with nature. The warm feel of wood floor and the wooden murals of a laser-cut tree pattern make the house become a home, unique in character while offering luxurious comfort. Tom Dixon lamps in dining area adorn the ceiling, splaying shadows across white eco wallpaper that resemble sunlight through a jungle of leaves. The narrow corridor, a space that is often unused, belies a living space of rooms each playfully marked with stainless steel nametags. The tall-standing feature display shows the “earthy feel” of the eco wallpaper complements the linear patterns of squares and lines and multi-colour plexiglass. The physical effect is quite astounding when the back-lit lighting hits the unit and through the plexiglass shelves, providing a kaleidoscope of colours. It’s something that’s more natural of a premium art gallery than of a home.

FARM DIRECT COUNTRY STYLE RETAIL DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2013﹣2014 This is Farm Direct’s first concept store. The store’s principal business is in the sales of 100% Hong Kong locally produced hydroponic vegetables. The design concept is about using the cheapest and the most primitive materials to create a European styled store. The red bricks forming the bright exterior are overlaid with a brushed white finish along with a sprayed green vignette, which is a reflection of the fresh produce available in store. The interior floor is laid with volcanic rocks, a characteristic used in this specialized method of farming. Linen textured carpet lining the wall creates a space of warmth and coziness, whilst the unfinished wood panels, that are used to construct the display cabinets, continue the fresh and natural theme. The visualization of vegetable roots and stems is achieved by the handcrafted LED ceiling-hung light fixtures.

MCINTOSH AV GALLERIA LUXURY RETAIL DESIGN, SHANGHAI, 2011-2012 Tasked with the audio system and hi-fi brand’s store interiors was Hong Kong-based PplusP Designers. Since their machines are for an exclusive, high-end market, the materials used for the interiors have to align with their products. Black stainless steel represents the feeling of boldness and mechanism. Marble floors are incorporated at the entrance to enhance the feeling of luxury. The store’s door handles take inspiration from McIntosh’s signature machine, offering a clear brand identity upon entrance. Passersby will not miss what Liu calls the store’s ‘time tree’, a striking spiral feature with years imprinted at different levels to signify the company’s milestones. Lead interior designer Wesley Liu created this spiral feature in order to hide the pillar as well as to create an eye-catching feature for the shop front to attract customers. It is carefully divided into proportion and features the significant years of achievement.

Walking into the studio, one would first notice there is a raised platform with a shoe cabinet next by. Taking off your shoes and change into slippers, this is where the relax atmosphere of home begins. Echoing the vertical planting is the natural fragrance through a light floral smell. Walking toward the working area, your world changes as a black tone become dominant. In contrast to the blackish environment is the thunder shaped bench with fluorescent tubes aligned accordingly. This is the space where everyone’s extraordinary ideas explore like the big bang. With the traditional cubicle replaced by a long bench, artists get closer to each other and communication is encouraged, this is how some genius ideas inspired along the way.

PPLUSP STUDIO 2 CORPORATE DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2014-2015
The second studio of PplusP Designers was designed with a mood of mixed culture. The ambience of the environment tends to cultivate a homey and nostalgic feeling. Getting pass the conference room, you would realize the atmosphere harmonizes the reaction of all your senses. Moving toward the working area, our design director chisels the Bank of China Tower on the white wall, creates a textured silhouette with the city skyline and paints in different brushstrokes to make this mural. Together with the bluish sky ceiling and light jazz music played throughout the room, the workspace has become tranquiller. Adjacent to the workspace, the table-tennis area is another feature in this studio. Apart from entertaining and refreshing minds, designers could have internal meeting on this table too, making it to be innovative. The hand-painted cylindrical basins, illuminated mirrors, notice board from old railway station in London with the red bricks and cement cleverly matched is another focal point when enters the toilet. Beyond a traditional workspace design, the playful and nostalgic components contribute to its uniqueness conveying a restful vibe in this earthy tone.

NEST OF DREAMS LOBBY (SERVICE APARTMENT), MACAU, 2012-2013
Home is where the heart is. The place where you are truly free. Free as a flight of birds that after a great day, come home to a safe sanctuary, created for the warmth of family togetherness and to rest for tomorrow. This is a beautiful prelude showcasing the elements of a bird’s nest, depicting a safe abode for people flying high in their lives and in their dreams. The entrance from the carpark is proportionately larger to capture the view of the interior. The front entrance shares a pattern of black stainless steel to depict strength with clear glass panels; allowing the bright natural light to be a part of the form. The comfortably eye-catching bird-shaped pattern cut into two backlit panels is the main attraction and sets the visuals for the design theme. From a glance it might seem that the bird patterns are grooved everywhere. Closer observation reveals that it’s really reflecting off the two main panels, artfully prescribed to create that very illusion. To present the element of space, mirrors and lights were used to raise the look of the ceiling and accentuate the corridor space.

URBAN OASIS EXHIBITION DESIGN, HONG KONG 2014-2015
Hong Kong is one of the most populated cities in the world. Yet the narrow living place is never a constraint to the local creative talents. 8 local young interior designers make use of their imagination to create a series of spatial installations – “oases of creativity” in this hustling “concrete jungle”. Wesley Liu , on behalf of the HKIDA, led the eight young designers to hold this exhibition with the theme URBAN OASIS to set up the installations. From different perspectives, they express their own feelings about the city.

DESIGN MAZE EXHIBITION DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
DESIGN MAZE EXHIBITION DESIGN, HONG KONG, 2010-2011
Design Maze, an architectural installation that also doubles up as an exhibition space for an interior design company, is a work of art that reflects incredible levels of innovation and intricate craftsmanship. It showcases a series of past and present projects handled by the interior design company, demonstrating their design concepts. There are also observatory openings marked into the four sides of the booth, inviting inquisitive visitors to take a peek inside in order to view the exhibits. This makes visiting an entirely refreshing experience, as visitors are able to walk within a work of art, articulately transformed by effective application of technology and extraordinary originality, which is both aesthetically breathtaking and functional. Backboned by bamboo scaffolding, which is a conventional building construction technique used in Asian countries, particularly in Hong Kong, this masterpiece fuses traditional Asian elements with contemporary design.

Beyond an ordinary exhibition space, the booth is built to be an architectural installation. Emphasising Megaman’s signature LED reflector, the booth was shaped like an oversized reflector lamp. Besides displaying their products, they also showcased their previous project of a lingerie store. This masterpiece fuses traditional Asian elements with contemporary design.
