REFUND/CREDIT VOUCHER POLICY

For information on Professional & Public Programs course offerings, policies or registration, call (915) 747-5142, fax (915) 747-5538 or drop by the Professional & Public Programs Office at Kelly Hall on the UTEP campus, at Suites 212 and 214, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To keep cost as low as possible, we have instituted the following refund and credit policy. For your protection, we ask that you carefully review the terms below. Exceptions will not be made.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION & ROOM ASSIGNMENT A confirmation will be e-mailed to you within 48 hours with all pertinent course information. Classes are located on campus unless noted otherwise. A participation form will be attached to be filled out for each participant. Please bring the completed form to ensure prompt check in.

COURSE FEES Professional & Public Programs is commited to offering quality programs at affordable prices. Course fees are based on an estimated minimum number of students. Professional & Public Programs is self-sustaining; course fees cover all expenses. No support is received from state or local taxes.

PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES Participants, or their representatives, who behave in a manner which is disruptive to the learning process, interferes with the well-being of other participants or staff, or causes damage to University or contracted facilities, may be asked not to return to the class.

REGISTER EARLY A class is closed when it reaches maximum enrollment, so please register early. Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment will be cancelled. Registrants will be notified of course cancellations by phone and e-mail. Please provide day and evening phone numbers, as well as an e-mail address, with your registration. Refunds will be processed automatically for courses cancelled by Professional & Public Programs. Please allow two to three weeks for processing. Professional & Public Programs reserves the right to cancel any course. Class locations, dates, times and instructors are subject to change.

If you choose to withdraw from a course for any reason, your written request must be received by Professional & Public Programs three business days prior to the first class meeting. A full refund of your registration, less a $15 processing fee per course and cost of materials and/or lab fees, will be given. Please allow two to three weeks for processing. Refund requests must include your name, daytime telephone number, the course number or name, and reason for dropping the course. Telephone requests will not be accepted. Please note: Certain courses are governed by their own refund policy, which will be noted in the course descriptions or brochures. Credit vouchers will be given when a class is dropped with one to two business days prior to the first class meeting. Vouchers must be used toward another class of equal or greater value no later than Aug. 31, 2015. Each voucher will be issued in the amount of the registration, less a $15 processing fee and cost of materials and/or lab fees. Sea Lions: Stroke Skills Classes (Ages 7-17) Is your child a good swimmer who wants to perfect multiple strokes? The freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and much more will be taught in this class. Swimmers’ skills will skyrocket as they learn correct forms coupled with endurance and breathing techniques. Please bring your goggles to class. Course:

All swimming pool participants must purchase a P3 Pool ID Card to enter the Student Recreation Center. The P3 Pool ID

Card can be used for future paid swimming courses as long as it is for the same person. The P3 Pool ID Card is offered for a one-time fee of $15. Payment must be made at the P3 office by calling (915) 747-5142 or in person at Kelly Hall,Suite 212 or 214, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If the card is lost, the participant will have to pay a replacement fee of $15. Purchased cards will be provided on the first day of the class. Access to the Student Recreation Center will be granted only to those who have registered for the swimming course and pre-paid for their card. Payment cannot be made at the Center. If you are not able to attend the first day of class, you must pick up your P3 Pool ID card at the Professional and Public Program office located at Kelly Hall, Suite 212 or 214 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday to access the Student Recreation Center facility. They will increase their understanding of phonics and develop word-attack skills. Art: Baby Animals of Africa Does your child love art and animals? If so, your son or daughter will thrive in this engaging class for first- and second-graders. Students also will make clay models of African mammals, birds and reptiles. On the last day of class, participants will complete a shoebox diorama of an African safari. AWESOME, Awarness of Phonics

Cheer Fundamentals: Beginners and Intermediate The Cheer Fundamentals camp is designed for Beginners as well as those with a basic knowledge of technique and motions. Teens Italian and French Cuisine

Teen Multicultural Recipes for the 4th of July

In this course we will focus on the rules for classical cookery for the Italian and French cuisine. We will practice learning the cooking techniques for a more experienced palate. Participants will learn the guidelines for matching pasta with sauces; variety of cheese, pizza and desserts. Three broad areas are addressed: a brief history of a more familiar foods that are consume for that particular cuisine; food safety preparation, and sanitation rules; cooking techniques and food recipes. In this course participants will learn all four cuisines that were offered during our summer program, from Italian, to Asian, to Mexican cuisines, and ending with some cake baking. Criminal Science Investigation and Forensic Science Institute 2015 (Entering Grades 4-6)

Do you have the desire to become a nurse? Have you wondered what skills it takes to achieve your dream? P3, along with Department of Nursing, will host a Nurse for a Day Camp to help high school students better understand the challenging, yet rewarding, field of nursing. Join other fitness-conscious folks at the pool for a good workout. The class is for intermediate to advanced swimmers who want to get a great workout and improve their strokes, turns, and starts. The sessions will focus on technique, paying special attention to endurance.

All swimming pool participants must purchase a P3 Pool ID Card to enter the Student Recreation Center. The P3 Pool ID Card can be used for future paid swimming courses as long as it is for the same person. The P3 Pool ID Card is offered for a one-time fee of $15. Payment must be made at the P3 office by calling (915) 747-5142 or in person at Kelly Hall, room 102, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If the card is lost, the participant will have to pay a replacement fee of $15. Aquatic Fitness (Ages 18 & Older)

Aqua T’ai Chi awakens your sensations as you become conscience of your body in the water. It boosts your spirit and energy while working your internal organs and lymphatic system through the hydrostatic pressure of the water. Aqua T’ai Chi will also help you burn calories and strengthen your muscles as you exercise against the resistance of the water. This class will allow you to focus on your own T’ai Chi movements in a chest-deep water pool without worrying about others.

The water’s unique properties provide an environment for people of all abilities. Its buoyancy creates a reduced impact exercise alternative that is easy on the joints, while the water’s resistance challenges the muscles. “Aquatic Fitness” is a well-balanced workout that improves overall physical fitness through aerobic training that improves muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. For the beginning swimmer, the course involves the essentials, such as breathing, floating, strokes, and feeling comfortable in the pool. For the intermediate swimmer, the course entails learning the basic strokes and being able to perform certain exercises that help improve endurance in the water. For the advanced swimmer, the course includes learning the basics of competitive swimming, such as strokes and techniques that focus on optimum performance. All sessions will be suited to the comfort level of each individual swimmer. This course allows the most basic as well as the more advanced swimmers to improve their swimming skills. ART Charcoal Portraits and Caricature Drawings Learn to draw life-like charcoal portraits or action packed humorous caricatures of your family and friends with former El Paso Times editorial cartoonist, Nacho Garcia. Charcoal is a popular media that allows you to draw very professional-looking black-white photo-like images. A caricature is defined as “a picture, description, or imitation of a person or thing in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect”. In other words, you will learn how to draw a caricature that looks like the person, is exaggerated to varying degrees, and most importantly, says something about the person you are drawing. Develop Your Inner Artistic Eye Basic Drawing - NEW This basic drawing class will develop the inner artistic eye we all naturally have. The student will learn simple techniques to reawaken the power to observe, and train the motor reflex between the eye and hand to achieve and capture an image on paper. CHEER AND DANCE UTEP Cheer Camp: Squads of 3 or more (Ages 5 and up) UTEP offers the largest and best cheerleading camp in the El Paso area! Participants will demonstrate their team spirit while enhancing their dance skills; learning how to motivate a crowd and practice proper safety techniques; building self-esteem; and learning how to exercise self-discipline. Students will practice exciting new routines and techniques as they practice cheers, chants, jumps, basic stunts and pyramids, gymnastics, and choreography. UTEP Golddigger Dance Camp (Ages 5–18) Come join us for the 2015 Golddigger Dance Camp. Learn all new drill, novelty, kick, jazz, and hip-hop routines designed for peak performances. UTEP’s Golddiggers will teach you showmanship techniques to make you shine. All participants will receive ribbons, certificates, and T-shirts. The UTEP Golddiggers have received the 2014 2 Diamond Elite and 1 Diamond Elite awards. They’ve also been named Choreography and Competition Regional Champions with a cash award at Talent on Parade, received a superior recognition at the 2001 College Spirit Dance Camp in San Diego, and also received awards at the 2003 USA College Dance Camp in Santa Barbara. They were the fourth University Dance Team to be invited to attend the 2004 ProDance Convention and continue to be invited back to ProAction Dance convention in Las Vegas. The UTEP Golddiggers have danced alongside professional dance teams like the cheerleaders for the Dallas Cowboys, Orlando Magic, and San Antonio Spurs among others. This is Coach Rebecca Cano Salcido’s sixteenth year as the director of the UTEP Golddiggers. She has over 40 years of training and 31 years of experience as a professional dancer for companies like Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. She was a company member with Gus Giordano Company in Chicago and has been a featured dancer in many video, television, and film industry productions. She is currently a lead judge for many dance competitions and a professional workshop instructor/choreographer throughout the United States. She now instructs local children to participate in competitions. UTEP Miners’ Soccer and Splash Camp: (Boys and Girls Ages 5 to 12) This is the perfect summer camp for active kids-all levels welcome! First, campers will develop a strong technical base. Topics taught are ball control, dribbling, heading passing, shooting, juggling and defending. Then, campers will get to splash around in our sprinklers to cool off from all of their hard work. You will receive the best instruction available and have fun playing the game you love! Bring your bottle water, cleats or tennis shoes. TRACK AND FIELD UTEP Miners’ Speed & Agility Camp: (Boys and Girls Ages 11–17) In this UTEP Miners’ Speed & Agility Camp you will become a better, faster, and more self-confident athlete. You will get to the ball quicker and learn how to outrun your opponents. This camp will also teach you techniques to improve your performance in any sport that requires speed. You’ll leave camp with better running knowledge, new friends, and an unmitigated love for the sport! You will train under the country’s best coaches, in the excellent facilities on campus and learn the latest training techniques. Team drills and play are designed to increase each player’s knowledge of the overall game by providing challenging, game-like situations.
