NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATION
Volunteering is Always in Season Stacy Cathrall, supervisor of volunteer services
If you’re looking for a way to spread cheer this season, consider filling one of these current volunteer needs: RETIREMENT LIVING: New Resident Welcome Volunteer: Extend a friendly welcome and help a new resident become acquainted to their new home and community by reviewing information and procedures with them. This is a great way to put your Masonic Village knowledge to use while meeting new people moving into your retirement living area.
As the holidays approach, it is easy (and fun) to get caught up in the glitz of gifts, but don’t lose sight of the most meaningful gift you can give your time. Volunteering is always in season. It takes a large group of volunteers to provide services across campus. We began in 2018 with 695 volunteers, 517 of whom were retirement living residents serving throughout retirement living areas and in the Masonic Health Care Center (MHCC). I’m excited to announce we are transitioning to a new volunteer database, “Volgistics,” which will better track volunteer activity. Volunteers will be able to check their schedules, sign up for openings and log their hours. Volgistics will electronically communicate volunteer opportunities such as one-time events and areas where immediate assistance is needed. Volunteer assignments are now being entered into the database so volunteer hours can be properly measured and celebrated. Once set-up is complete, volunteers will be able to build their own profiles with their interests. In addition, we will be contacting departments across campus to identify where additional volunteers are needed. To all of our current volunteers, I appreciate your continued commitment and dedication. You are truly a gift to us all. To residents with whom I am not yet acquainted, I look forward to meeting you and discussing your interests and possible volunteer opportunities that you may be suited for.
18
To get started, visit MasonicVillages.org and click on the “About” tab. From there, select “Volunteer,” then scroll down to the link for the adult application. You may also call Volunteer Services at ext. 33175 for more information or to schedule a time to meet with a volunteer coordinator.
Social Hour Host/Hostess: Prepare for retirement living socials by delivering the check for the entertainer, chilling and pouring drinks, enjoying refreshments with friends and neighbors, and then following a written clean-up procedure. MASONIC HEALTH CARE CENTER: Shopping Partner: Meet in the MHCC and take the bus to local shopping locations. You will be paired with a resident who needs wheelchair assistance. Help them check items off of their shopping list. Therapeutic Recreation: Assist the Therapeutic Recreation staff with a variety of programs offered in the MHCC including ceramics, bingo, crafts, socials and special events. Dining Room Clean-up: Thirty minutes is all it takes! Assist MHCC staff by helping to clear dishes from the dining room and sanitize the tables. The MHCC has 10 neighborhoods serving three meals per day, seven days per week. If you are limited on time but want to volunteer, this is a great opportunity. One-on-One Visitation: Be paired with a resident in the MHCC who would benefit from spending time with a volunteer and socializing. Reminisce, help them write cards, or escort them to the Gift Shop or out to the courtyard. Companionship helps eliminate loneliness. Pet Visitation: Bring your healthy, friendly dog in to visit with residents.
