NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATION
Aiding Children in Need Virginia Migrala, director of children's services
Many children are raised on the idea that with hard work, they can grow up to be anything they want to be, and they are frequently reminded that no dream is too large. For over 100 years, we have shown children who were once lacking the resources needed to attain success, that at the Masonic Children’s Home, their dreams are well within reach. With the help of generous donors, we are not only able to provide these children with basic necessities, such as clothing, shelter, food and medical care, but also a secure and supportive environment that encourages self-discovery, hope and success in all aspects of life. The ability to initiate the first renovation on all five children’s cottages since the program moved to its current location in 1994, proves our donors’ dedication to providing a happy living environment for our children. With the construction on the girls’ cottages completed last year and the final touches done on the boys’ cottages in August, both the girls and boys have happily settled into their newly renovated homes.
18
These renovations have given all children the privacy of their own room and a chance to tap into their unique style and personality with their choice of bright and modern bedroom décor. In addition to reconstructed bedrooms, the renovation reconfigured shared areas in the cottages, such as the living rooms and kitchens, to be more space savvy.
The children’s home’s Resource Center also underwent a homey makeover and now features a multi-media room that will be utilized as a gathering space for group activities and learning opportunities outside of school. With plentiful resources, welcoming words, guiding hands and the generosity of friends, house parents, mentors and donors, many kids are making memories that will last a lifetime and gaining fundamental knowledge that they will carry with them after they graduate. During the 2017 school year, 22 of our students made the honor roll, and nine are currently pursuing a postsecondary education. The number of success stories will only continue to grow as our donors continuously give our children the resources and opportunities they need. As we enter into the 2018 school year, we are looking forward to welcoming new faces and watching the children pursue whatever academic or extracurricular opportunities the year will bring. You may know a family or child (ages 6–18) in need who could benefit from the Masonic Children’s Home. Call ext. 33301 or email vmigrala@ masonicvillages.org for more information on provided services and the application process. Also, visit MasonicChildrensHome.org or our Facebook page for most recent news and updates.
