Project Linus

Mondays, 1:30 p.m., Card Room Project Linus makes baby blankets and quilts for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. West Penn NICU, West Penn Burn Center, Children’s Hospital, Magee NICU, Area EMS, and many other area facilities receive these blankets and quilts. Please come help provide security and comfort to these children. In 2018, this group created 193 blankets and 11 quilts! Materials provided.

Masonic Ringers

Thursdays, 9:30 a.m., Social Room If you’ve ever heard beautiful music coming from the social room by Karen’s office on a Thursday morning, it was probably the Masonic Ringers playing their tone chimes. Led by Rebecca Lewis, MT-BC, this small, funloving group enjoys making music, laughter, singing and plain old-fashioned fun. No prior experience, ability to read music, or audition required to join. The group plays for enjoyment and sometimes shares music at MV’s church service. Ringing has health benefits - using the tone chimes will keep your arms, fingers and wrists limber - and will put a smile on your face … so stop in Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and become a Masonic Ringer!

MVS Workshop

The Masonic Village Workshop is a non-profit club for MVS residents. The shop has a wide variety of hand and power tools, a separate “finishing room” for painting and varnishing, and enough work stations for several people to work at the same time. Several of the members volunteer to do small repair work for Village residents on personal items. Through the years, members have made many toys for sale in the general store and donated toys to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Erie. Call Linda Kable at 412-741-8696 for more details.

A History of India

Some of the world’s oldest, greatest and most successful civilizations made their home in India. Today, it contains 20 percent of the world’s population and is a thriving center for global business. Over the next decade, India is expected to surpass China in population, becoming one of the world’s most significant economic powerhouses. Beyond 21st-century globalization, India has always played a critical role on the world stage. Over the past 5,000 years, it has hosted a rich tapestry of people and cultures.. Two of the world’s greatest religions—Hinduism and Buddhism— and some of the most significant wisdom literature all originated in South Asia. Furthermore, with their strategic location and unique geography, the lands east of the Indus River have long been central hubs for trade, migration and cultural exchange. Turning Point in Modern History

What do the fall of Constantinople, the French Revolution, the Transcontinental Railroad and the invention of the Internet all have in common? If any one of these turning points had not occurred, or had occurred differently, it would have dramatically altered the trajectory of modern history —and even your life. Each event and innovation sparked a profound change in how entire societies viewed the world while signaling the dawn of a new political, economic, or cultural and social reality. It’s critical to be aware of these turning points — but comprehending the complexity of their causes and effects is even more essential to fully grasp how we arrived in the here and now. Only by understanding how these and other landmark moments and movements transformed our world and continue to impact it today, and by studying the creative ways humankind has found to adapt, can we get at what it truly means to be “modern.” Feb. 25 – The Great Voyage of Admiral Zheng Ho Guttenberg Print Revolution
