Located in the Star Points Building, the Barley Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment, fitness classes and an indoor pool and spa. Trained staff will help you develop a personalized fitness program. Open 24 hours, with staff available Mon. - Fri., 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. Pool hours: Mon. - Fri., 8 - 11:30 a.m.

Fit For Life focuses on balance, strength and flexibility to help increase your strength and stability for a better quality of life.

Senior Yoga

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 11:30 a.m. - Noon Assembly Room

Our instructor, Claudia, will guide you through a gentle half-hour yoga session of seated and standing poses focused on strength, relaxation, balance and flexibility.

Tuesday & Thursday 9 - 9:45 a.m. Designed to work your entire body, this class will benefit individuals who are looking for an active cardiovascular workout with intervals of strength, flexibility and range-of-motion exercises.

Walking Group

Tuesday & Thursday 11 - 11:30 a.m. Assembly Room

Our wellness staff will warm you up and cool you down with various exercises before and after a short walk. Join neighbors and friends for good music and conversation, all while contributing to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Stretching

Tuesday & Thursday 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Activity Room 6

Our instructor, Nikki, will guide you through gentle stretches to improve flexibility and balance and increase range of motion, making it easier to perform everyday tasks.

PROGRAMS AND ENTERTAINMENT Celebrate Music Lifting your voice in a choir and actively participating in playing instruments have cognitive benefits. They are both hobbies that require regulation of attention, versatile information processing, linguistic output, learning and memorization. Here at Masonic Village, you have three wonderful opportunities to exercise your cognition! Handbells Tuesdays, 3 p.m. Activity Room 6 You must be able to read music, but you can still learn this magical style of creating music.

Masonic Ringers Wednesdays, 4:15 p.m. Social Room No need to be able to read music here, so it is for EVERYONE! This group has a great time with loads of fellowship. Masonic Village Choir Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. Assembly Room Great for your cognition and your physical well-being, this group promises to keep you smiling with a song in your heart. Mahjong

Every Tuesday 1 p.m. Card Room

There’s a new game in town. Now you can play Mahjong on Tuesday afternoons in addition to the ongoing Friday morning game. If you are a beginner with a bit of playing experience or an intermediate player, and if you have the most recent 2021 Mahjong card, you are eligible to join this new group (The Friday game is for intermediate players only.) Phipps Conservatory: Holiday Magic! Winter Flower Show and Light Garden Wednesday, Dec. 1 4:15 p.m. $15

With an elegant theme of “Sparkle and Shine,” guests are sure to delight at the stunning sights and twinkling lights. Phipps has pulled out all the stops for this year’s Winter Flower Show with dazzling new displays of holiday trees, topiaries, exquisitely detailed props and signature floral delights, including amaryllis, orchids and more than 1,600 poinsettias. Plus, the beauty isn’t just indoors. After a brief hiatus in 2020, Phipps is pleased to announce the return of its celebrated Winter Light Garden, filling its Outdoor and Discovery Gardens with luminous orbs, trees, fountains, a tunnel of lights and an all-new ice castle display that will mesmerize guests of all ages. Every year, RCB brings tidings of comfort and joy to Southwestern Pennsylvania with its Christmas Brasstacular concerts. Take a break from the Christmas chaos, and let RCB transport you to a land of enchantment with your favorite holiday hits and music from family movies like “Frozen” and “Polar Express”. Their Christmas Brasstacular is the stuff that family traditions are made of.

Pittsburgh Symphony: Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite Sunday, Dec. 5

Just in time for the holidays, Manfred Honeck conducts Tchaikovsky’s enchanting suite from “The Nutcracker” plus, the premiere of “A Child’s Dream of Toys” by award-winning composer Vivian Fung. Her works weave a tapestry of sound and cultures. Also, James Ehnes plays Barber’s haunting Violin Concerto, which is “soulful and immaculate,” raves The Guardian of London. Extending from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, the transcontinental railway in Canada, built by the Canadian Pacific Railway, is known as one of the greatest engineering feats in history. The last spike for the railway was driven in 1885. It is a truly immersive “being there” experience with the 70-foot screen in The Rangos Giant Cinema. Aerial cinematography, photos, maps and the rhythm of a steam locomotive all unfold with crystal-clear, 4K digital images and 45 surround-sound speakers that will immerse you in the fidelity of Steam Engine 2816.
