Todd DePastino: Alexander Hamilton
THURSDAY, FEB. 13, 7 P.M.
Assembly Room
Todd DePastino begins a new series on the man behind the record-breaking, smash-hit Broadway musical “Hamilton,” which virtually swept the Tony Awards and elevated our first Secretary of the Treasury to superstar status. Alexander Hamilton’s emergence as a founding hero is strange considering how vilified and despised he was for two centuries after his death in a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr in 1804. Come learn about how a Caribbeanborn orphan whom John Adams reviled as a “bastard brat of a Scottish peddler” rose to become George Washington’s right-hand man in the American Revolution and the genius who envisioned the young United States as a future global superpower.

ART CLASSES
New Series: Meet Your Art Studio Artists
Do you ever wonder what’s happening in the Art Studio? For the next few months, in addition to announcing new pop-up classes, workshops and/or other classes, we will feature a short interview with one of our resident artist volunteers, who love sharing their expertise with you.
Meet Marcia Brackin, who moved here about 18 months ago and immediately began her journey into the world of art. She insists her only experience with art was from fourth to sixth grades, when she attended the Tam O’Shanter kid’s art program at Carnegie Music Hall. Years later, she started taking classes and workshops with each of our Masonic Village
instructors: Judy Wenning, Donna Billings-Davis, Susan Bikowski, Sibyl McNulty and Dick Wagner.
Asked which medium she loves best, Marcia said, “I love the feel of the studio with the multitude of supplies available to us. When I sit down to work on a project, I totally lose track of time; it is better than yoga meditation.”
Because she spends so much time in the studio, the Art Committee charged her with keeping it organized and in tip top shape. Her recent pastel and acrylic artwork can be seen in the newly updated Salon on campus.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
SUNDAY, FEB. 2
1:30 p.m.
Cost: Your ticket
Written in 1971 when Dmitri Shostakovich’s health was declining, this final symphony by the profoundly private composer is a reflection on his life and career: intensely personal, enigmatic and somewhat surreal, featuring music by Rossini, Glinka and Wagner, alongside references to his own music from his younger years. Call James at 412-392-8801 for tickets.
Lunch at the Springfield Grille
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 5
11 a.m.
Cost: Your lunch
The Springfield Grille represents the typical American steakhouse, but it is also unique. With glossy, rich mahogany wood accents and Americana décor, you will be impressed by the casual yet elegant atmosphere. Highly trained chefs dedicate hours to developing and preparing daily specials, as well as customer favorites such as steaks, fresh seafood, pastas, salads and sandwiches. Dessert represents a necessary course with sinfully sweet confections made daily by in-house pastry chefs. Call the registration line to make your reservation.
Heinz History Center Tour
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 12
1 p.m.
Cost: $18
As Pittsburgh’s “people museum,” the History Center preserves and interprets the history of western Pennsylvanians through six floors of interactive exhibitions featuring iconic artifacts like the TV set from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and the world’s oldest jeep. The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum is located on the second and third floors of the History Center. Bring $18 to Karen Hammond to reserve your ticket; no phone reservations accepted.
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
SUNDAY, FEB. 16
1:30 p.m.
Cost: Your ticket Czech composer Antonin Dvořak traveled to America in the 1890s, and this wild new country thrilled him. He admired the beauty of African American spirituals and was fascinated by Native American traditions. When describing his “New World” symphony, he said, “I tried to write only in the spirit of those national American melodies,” but his Ninth is clearly an expression of both the Old World and the new. Alongside Dvořák’s familiar symphony, violin phenomenon María Dueñas returns to perform “SaintSaëns.” Call James at 412-392-8801 for tickets.
Lincoln Park Presents: “Tom Sawyer, a Ballet”
THURSDAY, FEB. 20
5:45 p.m.
Cost: $22
With a score by critically acclaimed composer Maury Yeston (of “Titanic”), this stirring and symphonic ballet is an inventive combination of ballet, folk dance, comedy and compelling storytelling. An original adaptation of the Mark Twain classic, this ballet explores the charm and vitality of youth by telling the story of a boy’s passage from childhood to teenager. The music’s wit and beauty blends perfectly with the charm and playfulness of Twain’s novel, creating this must-see new American classic. Bring Karen Hammond $22 to reserve your seat; no phone reservations accepted.
Fellowship Breakfast
SATURDAY, FEB. 22
8:30 a.m.

North Allegheny High School: “Children of Eden”
TUESDAY, FEB. 25
3 p.m. tentative departure
Cost: Free
Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s musical, “Children of Eden,” casts the beloved biblical stories of Genesis through the personal lens of family. This joyous and inspiring musical celebrates the difficulty of choice, the importance of passion, the value of questioning and the pain of allowing those you love to take risks and face consequences. Call the registration line to reserve your seat.
