Openings Available for the 2018 School Year THE MASONIC CHILDREN’S HOME IS CHANGING LIVES! At the Masonic Children’s Home, staff are doing everything in their power to make sure kids in need feel truly at home, and it is making a worthwhile impact on the lives of many children. Not every child is fortunate enough to be raised in a stable household or to have their basic needs fulfilled, but at the children’s home, they are given both, and much, much more.
Do You Know a Child in Need?
With academic tutors to provide educational assistance, house parents to offer thoughtful life advice and house mates who quickly become friends, children are guided to the right path and given the resources to grow into successful young adults. They are also given opportunities to partake in the joys of childhood through organized trips and enrollment in extra-curricular activities like music, art and sports. You may know a family or child (ages 6 – 18) in need who could benefit from the Masonic Children’s Home. Contact Virginia Migrala, director of children services, at ext. 33301 or vmigrala@masonicvillages.org for more information on provided services and the application process.
NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATION
What You Need to Know About Medicare Open Enrollment Cris Dinsmore, director of finance
What You Should Know to Start Planning Medicare’s annual open enrollment for health insurance will run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, 2018 — it is never too soon to start speaking with your family regarding your insurance needs. If you are currently enrolled in an employer group retirement plan, those insurers will send the necessary information separately. In fact, you may have already received your benefits packet. Please review these for changes to your benefit and benefit deadlines. These do not necessarily follow the Medicare open enrollment dates. Review your current medications, physicians and health needs before choosing a plan. You can use Medicare.gov and will need to have your Medicare card, current address and current medication list to use the site. Look for upcoming meetings that the Masonic Village Finance Department will schedule in September regarding open enrollment (dates to be determined).
New Medicare Cards
Who is Eligible? - Qualifying Criteria
• You have part A days left in your benefit. • You have had a qualifying hospital stay (not
“observation stay or emergency room visit”).
You should have received your new Medicare card in the mail if you have a Pennsylvania address on file with Social Security. You will need to supply this information to the Finance Department. Please note, even if your primary insurance is a managed care plan, you will receive a new card for Medicare and should supply a copy to the Finance Department. You can do so by having your social worker or a unit assistant copy your card, and they will forward it to us. You can also take your card to the flu shot clinic at Masonic Village. The card will then be captured through scanning and returned to you immediately.
• A hospital related medical condition
What is Considered Skilled Nursing Care?
This is a brief overview of skilled nursing. If you or your loved one have any concerns about coverage or financial needs, please reach out the Finance Department. The staff will be able to supply you with the information that you need.
Often, when a resident goes to the hospital and requires nursing care, they are eligible to receive a skilled nursing benefit. Medicare or Medicare replacement policies (managed care) are designed to cover medical needs on a short-term basis only. Most managed care policies follow Medicare guidelines, which include 100 percent coverage for days 1-20 for skilled services when you meet qualifying criteria. Then, on day 21, a co-insurance will be due ($167.50 per day for 2018). You may carry a supplemental policy to cover your skilled co-insurance.
is present on admission.
• Your doctors have decided that you need
daily skilled care given by, or under the direct supervision of skilled nursing or therapy staff.
MYTH: A common misconception is that Medicare will always cover short-term care, and you automatically qualify for 100 days of coverage. This may not be the case as several criteria need to be met for Medicare to pay for your stay.
