NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATION
Masonic Health Care Center Services Robert Druckenmiller, administrator of health care services
Memory Support
When you think of the Masonic Health Care Center (MHCC), the first thing that comes to mind is longterm care nursing services. The MHCC offers more than traditional nursing care. In addition, short-term rehabilitation is offered in the Transitional Care Unit (TCU), and we have memory support available for those with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. We also offer outpatient therapy for those who live on campus and need to get back on their feet.
Short-term Rehabilitation Our Transitional Care Unit is located on the second floor of the Washington Building and includes 48 short-term rehabilitation accommodations. Transitional care helps patients receive the additional care they need in order to safely return home following a hospital stay. Our comprehensive care team helps patients recover from orthopedic conditions, strokes, cardiac events, respiratory conditions, infections, illnesses including the flu and pneumonia, diabetes complications and more. We admit around 70 patients per month with an average length of stay of 15 days. Working with our therapy team, the medical staff, including physicians and nurse practitioners, dedicated nursing staff and discharge planners, work hard to return individuals to their prior level of strength and health. Our goal is to discharge all patients back to their prior living arrangements in retirement living, personal care or the local Elizabethtown community.
6
Our memory support neighborhoods specialize in caring for residents with memory impairment. On these neighborhoods, we provide additional therapeutic recreation and offer more structured activities programs, including music therapy. This, coupled with dedicated 24-hour-a-day nursing staff, provides additional support. Throughout the MHCC, through the use of consistent staffing, we are able to learn and meet the needs of each resident and provide them with a familiar face every day. We embrace the philosophies of the Eden Alternative™, which directs our staff to provide person-centered care and help eliminate loneliness, boredom and lack of purpose in the lives of our residents. We keep residents and their families as close to the decision-making process as possible and provide a home-like environment while delivering five-star quality health care.
Outpatient Therapy When a medical problem arises and the need for therapy exists, it can be obtained right here on our campus without the need to look elsewhere. With the use of state-of-the-art equipment, our team of therapists and therapy assistants can help you overcome an injury and return back to your daily routine. Cost management remains a focus for all medical providers. Masonic Village is working with local hospitals and insurance providers to improve quality of care and minimize hospital visits. Medical staff are on site Monday through Friday and are oncall evenings and weekends, making access to a physician or nurse practitioner very easy for our residents. This is an advantage that many other health care centers do not have. We are very proud that our hospital readmission rate remains well below government and local standards. Things are always changing in our industry, but one thing never changes - our commitment to quality and our Mission of Love. Our nursing team, social workers, dietitians and restorative and therapy staff work with our residents daily to improve their quality of life. Many of our staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and it shows in the care they give every day. We are grateful to them and want you to know we are here for you whenever you need us!
Final Formal Gardens Concert with Market Street Brass Monday, July 9 | 6:30 p.m. | Free In honor of our nation’s birth, enjoy the music of Market Street Brass during the last summer 2018 Formal Gardens concert. Founded in 1985 and based in Fredrick, MD, Market Street Brass is a versatile group with a diverse repertoire, including patriotic favorites. There will be chairs provided in the gardens; however, please bring your own lawn chair if you have one. Cold drinks will also be offered. There will be seating available on the Trexler Terrace for those who would like a bird's eye view. Dining on the terrace is available per reservation. Call ext. 33303.
