From timeless renditions of beloved carols to modern twists on traditional favorites, “Christmas Crooners” promises an unforgettable journey through the joys and wonders of the holiday season, leaving you with memories to cherish long after the final note fades into the crisp winter night. Please note: Pay what you will donations will be accepted at the doors to assist in covering this evening’s performance costs. Doors will not open until about 15 minutes prior to show time.

Special Holiday Concert by the Lukens Band

SUNDAY, DEC. 1, 3 P.M.

Deike Auditorium

The Lukens Steel Band was founded in 1911 and the 50-member band plays a great variety of concert band music, including marches, classical pieces, Broadway and movie music and popular songs past and present. The Lukens Band is always pleased to return to Masonic Village, and this will be their first time presenting a holiday performance.

The Caribbean: Mosaic of Peoples, Cultures and Countries

TUESDAY, DEC. 3, 10 A.M.

Keystone Room

The Caribbean today is a rich diversity of people with various origins from countries in Africa, to American Indians, to European countries. Also, other groups like pirates and invading navies brought a nautical diversity to the region. Explore the Caribbean from the perspectives of anthropology and regional security with Dr. Robert Wheelersburg, an anthropology professor and retired Army officer who has worked on several of the island countries in the region.

Classes for the Curious: Introduction to Cognitive Science

STARTING TUESDAY DEC. 3, 10 A.M.

Life Long Learning Center

University of Michigan professor Thad A. Polk takes us on a fascinating tour of the latest discoveries in the relatively new field of cognitive science. Our goal is to open the “black box” that is the human mind and understand how it works. Among the topics covered are anatomy of the brain, language, memory, perception and emotions. Ridgeway Brass Christmas Concert

The Ridgeway Brass brings a wide variety of musical styles to audiences at worship services, festivals, and community events. Group members are: Dave Rutman and Mike Schmehl , trumpets; Josh Stroup, French horn; Don Wetzel, trombone; and Greg Bidgood Enders, tuba. They will perform a concert of sacred and secular holiday favorites.

Enjoy some early sounds of the holiday season as Masonic Village’s own Music Merrymakers shares songs that tell the delight of this festive time of year. From hanging the holly, going caroling and dreaming of old-fashioned snow-filled Christmases past to recalling the true spiritual reason for the season, the star in the sky heralding a King born in a simple stable, let this hour of music set the tone for your holiday season, taking it from “dazed” to “Holy.”

Friendship Tree Dedication

Chorus Concert

Brossman Ballroom and Channel 956

This 15-member ensemble was established to fulfill the need for an auditioned community ensemble comprised of musicians able to play advanced literature and interested in advancing the art of handbell ringing through education and performance. Ringers perform on seven and a half octaves of Malmark Handbells, four octaves of Petit and Fritsen Handbells, Silver Melody Bells and Handchimes and other assorted instruments.

Myths and Legends …Why We Believe in Santa Claus

MONDAY, DEC. 9, 1:30 P.M.

GLH Solarium

This presentation will cover the historical traditions of gift giving and gift givers around the world, from Ancient Roman times to present day, and the origin of the familiar red and white Santa Claus of today. It will feature traditional Christmas readings and an interesting display of approximately 65 gift givers. Enjoy this presentation by resident Judy Parrish.

Book Reading with George Simms

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 11, 2 P.M.

Keystone Room

Dr. George Simms, a resident and the former Masonic Village Hospice Medical Director, has recently published a book entitled “Broken Glass.” This book describes his struggle with the aging process using aphorisms and his personal reflections. He will be reading from his book and hopes to engage the audience in a lively discussion. All are invited.

Holiday Pancake Breakfast

Brossman Ballroom Masonic Village

Abraham C. Treichler Lodge NO. 682 is serving pancakes with toppings, sausages, orange juice and coffee. A donation is requested. All proceeds will go to ECHOS Winter Shelter. It also will feature Santa, Toys for Tots and Blood Drive.

Wreaths Across America Ceremony

SATURDAY, DEC. 14, 11 A.M.

Sell Chapel

Help in remembering all residents who were veterans and are interred or buried here so that they may never be forgotten. Beginning with the Remembrance Ceremony, held at the Sell Chapel, join in the placing of wreaths and the reading of the names of those interred at the Columbarium. Afterwards, participants may also travel immediately following that ceremony to the Masonic Village Cemetery where those Veterans will be honored and wreaths placed on their graves. For bus transportation to the chapel and to the cemetery afterwards, please call ext. 33818.

Encore Band Christmas Concert

The Village Encore Band will perform their Winter Concert “Sounds of the Season.” Everyone will find some melodies which will reflect on Christmas and bring back cherished memories.

Jay Smar: Ol’ Tyme Christmas Program

MONDAY, DEC. 16, 2 P.M.

Back by popular demand, Jay Smar returns for the holidays. He will perform familiar Christmas songs preceded by their origin, as well as easy “bluegrass” Christmas singalongs, a Christmas song written by a monk in 1646 and a guitar instrumental version of “What Child is This?”. And what country program would be complete without some flat foot fiddlin’ and singin’?

Return to Toyland Presented by the Red Rose Chorus and Greater

Harrisburg Chorus

The “Toyland” theme revolves around popular toys across the decades that the Red Rose Chorus (men’s group) and Greater Harrisburg Chorus (women’s group) sing about while taking everyone down memory lane in a nostalgic version of Christmas. These premier a cappella ensembles sing sometimes in unison, sometimes separately and other times in trios or quartets, bringing holiday magic to life. The presentation includes video, trivia, dramatic vignette and narration along with the a cappella vocals.

Double Keyed Frances Drost & Kirstin Myers

On the heels of their Billboard-charting and award-winning album, Midwinter’s Gift, Kirstin Myers, piano, and Frances Drost, oboe, continue to delight audiences with their heartfelt interpretations of both classical and contemporary music. Kirstin is an oboist with the York Symphony Orchestra, Berks Sinfonietta, Reading Pops Orchestra, Trio Jolie and Silverwood Trio and professor of oboe at Lebanon Valley College, York College and the Tell School of Music at Millersville University. Frances is a singer, songwriter, pianist and published author.

Movie Showing: “It’s A Wonderful Life”

In this Christmas classic starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, an angel is sent from heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. This is the 2007 remake in color. This movie is not rated and has a run time of 131 minutes.

New Year’s Eve Party with Mitch & the Moodswings

Before moving forward into a new year, roll back the years with music and a great party as we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in a brand-new year! Celebrate the arrival of 2025 with Mitch and the Moodswings, a band that has specialized in fun rock ‘n’ roll, 60s and 70s hits, Motown and soul music for their 20 years. Tonight’s party will include food and beverages, but you may also BYOB. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. There are no reserved seats, but don’t forget to RSVP by Dec. 18 to Liz Grosh at ext. 39930, so we know how many to expect. If you are requesting transportation, please state your pick -up location. This special event is reserved for retirement living residents. After the RSVP deadline, if space allows, we will consider non-resident guests for a $30 upcharge per guest.

The Baird Wellness Center offers an array of cardiovascular and strength equipment, functional training, personal training and group fitness classes. Massage therapy and wellness workshops on mind, body and spirit are also offered.

The showroom is open Monday through Friday, from 8 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m. It is also open on Saturday, from 8 – 11 a.m. There are many assorted items produced by the members. All items on display are for sale, and all Masonic Village residents and employees receive a 15% discount on a showroom item priced $100 or more.
