The Lukens Steel Band was founded in 1911 and the 50-member band plays a great variety of concert band music, including marches, classical pieces, Broadway and movie music and popular songs past and present. The Lukens Band is always pleased to return to Masonic Village, and this will be their first time presenting a holiday performance.

The Caribbean today is a rich diversity of people with various origins from countries in Africa, to American Indians, to European countries. Also, other groups like pirates and invading navies brought a nautical diversity to the region. Explore the Caribbean from the perspectives of anthropology and regional security with Dr. Robert Wheelersburg, an anthropology professor and retired Army officer who has worked on several of the island countries in the region.

University of Michigan professor Thad A. Polk takes us on a fascinating tour of the latest discoveries in the relatively new field of cognitive science. This 15-member ensemble was established to fulfill the need for an auditioned community ensemble comprised of musicians able to play advanced literature and interested in advancing the art of handbell ringing through education and performance. Ringers perform on seven and a half octaves of Malmark Handbells, four octaves of Petit and Fritsen Handbells, Silver Melody Bells and Handchimes and other assorted instruments.

GLH Solarium
This presentation will cover the historical traditions of gift giving and gift givers around the world, from Ancient Roman times to present day, and the origin of the familiar red and white Santa Claus of today. It will feature traditional Christmas readings and an interesting display of approximately 65 gift givers. Enjoy this presentation by resident Judy Parrish.

Dr. George Simms, a resident and the former Masonic Village Hospice Medical Director, has recently published a book entitled “Broken Glass.” This book describes his struggle with the aging process using aphorisms and his personal reflections. He will be reading from his book and hopes to engage the audience in a lively discussion. All are invited.

Help in remembering all residents who were veterans and are interred or buried here so that they may never be forgotten. Beginning with the Remembrance Ceremony, held at the Sell Chapel, join in the placing of wreaths and the reading of the names of those interred at the Columbarium. Afterwards, participants may also travel immediately following that ceremony to the Masonic Village Cemetery where those Veterans will be honored and wreaths placed on their graves. For bus transportation to the chapel and to the cemetery afterwards, please call ext. 33818.

He will perform familiar Christmas songs preceded by their origin, as well as easy “bluegrass” Christmas singalongs, a Christmas song written by a monk in 1646 and a guitar instrumental version of “What Child is This?”. And what country program would be complete without some flat foot fiddlin’ and singin’?

The “Toyland” theme revolves around popular toys across the decades that the Red Rose Chorus (men’s group) and Greater Harrisburg Chorus (women’s group) sing about while taking everyone down memory lane in a nostalgic version of Christmas. These premier a cappella ensembles sing sometimes in unison, sometimes separately and other times in trios or quartets, bringing holiday magic to life. The presentation includes video, trivia, dramatic vignette and narration along with the a cappella vocals.

On the heels of their Billboard-charting and award-winning album, Midwinter’s Gift, Kirstin Myers, piano, and Frances Drost, oboe, continue to delight audiences with their heartfelt interpretations of both classical and contemporary music. Kirstin is an oboist with the York Symphony Orchestra, Berks Sinfonietta, Reading Pops Orchestra, Trio Jolie and Silverwood Trio and professor of oboe at Lebanon Valley College, York College and the Tell School of Music at Millersville University. Frances is a singer, songwriter, pianist and published author.

Celebrate the arrival of 2025 with Mitch and the Moodswings, a band that has specialized in fun rock ‘n’ roll, 60s and 70s hits, Motown and soul music for their 20 years. Tonight’s party will include food and beverages, but you may also BYOB. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. There are no reserved seats, but don’t forget to RSVP by Dec. 18 to Liz Grosh at ext. 39930, so we know how many to expect. If you are requesting transportation, please state your pick -up location. This special event is reserved for retirement living residents. After the RSVP deadline, if space allows, we will consider non-resident guests for a $30 upcharge per guest.
