NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATION
A Farewell to Our Graduates Virginia Migrala, director of children's services
Graduation time is bittersweet here at the children’s home. We have said goodbye to our four seniors, and hope to watch them pursue their passions with the lessons and qualities we hope to have instilled in them. Each staff member, including myself, will certainly miss their smiling faces, humor and attitudes. Soon, we will be welcoming four new children in need of a safe, stable and caring environment. Staff will work hard to make them comfortable and positively impact their lives by setting structure, providing guidance, love and care and being role models. Most importantly, gifts, from people like you, play a significant role in changing the lives of these children. Not only do donations provide the basic necessities, like food, clothing and medical assistance, they provide our children with opportunities to have new life experiences and achieve higher degrees after completing high school. Whether a child dreams of becoming a chef, nurse, designer or artist, donors make their dreams come true. The achievements of the 36 young men and women of the children’s home were celebrated on May 19 at the 94th annual Youth Appreciation Day. Recognized for their athletics, citizenship, creativity, scholarship and vocation, each child received personalized awards. The four graduating seniors spoke in admiration of children’s home staff and donors, sharing their hopes and dreams for the future.
“I moved here from South Africa, where basic necessities were hard to come by. Life was hard, but everyone here made it all so easy for me. I have made memories I will hold forever,” said Wandja, a graduate. The four seniors (l-r), Sarah, Autumn, Wandja and Anderson, received their graduation certificates and scholarships toward higher education. Anderson will attend California University of Pennsylvania to earn a degree in Graphic Design. Wandja will attend Millersville University to study Sports Management. Autumn plans to attend Douglas Education Center in Monessen for a specialized business degree in Special Effects Design, and Sarah will attend Northampton Community College to pursue a career as a Veterinarian Technician. Following tradition, after the program, a tree was planted at the children’s home in honor of the four graduating seniors and will serve as a lasting symbol of their ties to the children’s home and the community in which they grew into wonderful young adults. To learn more about the Masonic Children's Home, go to MasonicChildrensHome.org or visit our Facebook page for most recent news and updates. Residents may tour the children's home on planned days throughout the school year. For more information, please contact resident and children's home alumnus Alan Saylor at ext. 72157.
