Believe it or not, from the earliest part of human history, there is evidence of artificial intelligence (AI). Until recently, the machines were dumb and not able to act alone; however, that has changed over the past few decades. Hollywood has taken up this theme of machine AI dominating the world and killing or enslaving humans to do so. From Hal in “2001: A Space Odyssey” to “Wargames” to “Terminator,” explore how popular films have used this theme to present a darker future for AI. Presented by Dr. Robert Wheelersburg, this program is sponsored by the Lifelong Discovery Fund.

Memorial Day Program

MONDAY, MAY 29, 9:30 A.M.

Deike Auditorium

This year, our Memorial Day program on campus changes to a morning time slot, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a music prelude by Ridgeway Brass. Master of Ceremonies Ben Hoenich and members of our Veterans Events Committee and National Sojourners will continue with a program to especially honor and recognize Masonic Medal of Honor winners, as we also remember all veterans who died in service. Please note: The National Moment of Remembrance is an annual event that asks Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, to pause for one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States. We ask that all residents stop to pause at 3 p.m., along with the rest of the country, to recognize our fallen veterans, wherever you happen to be at that time.
