Hyperion Knight, Pianist, Storyteller and Author FRIDAY, NOV. 3, 7 P.M., AND SATURDAY, NOV. 4, 2 P.M. Deike Auditorium

Hyperion Knight is a pianist known for the diversity of his repertoire, and he is equally at home with serious classics and popular standards. Hyperion’s recordings range from Beethoven to the Beatles and from Ragtime to Rachmaninoff. In addition to regular appearances with orchestras across the U.S., he was also recently featured in a Public Television special, “Hyperion Plays Great Piano Classics.” By special invitation, he is performing two different concerts here.

Benedict Arnold led one army up Maine’s Kennebec River, while another army advanced from New York. Benjamin Franklin led a Continental Congressional delegation to obtain alliance with Canada against Great Britain. We’ll cover these events and why they failed and discuss how this campaign significantly influenced the colonial movement toward independence from Great Britain in 1776. In 1848, a group of young painters and poets gathered at the Oxford Student Union and began a revolutionary movement in art. Featured are painters Rossetti, Millais, Holman Hunt and Madox Brown, and poets and art critics Ruskin and Christina and Michael Rossetti. Professor Rick Coplen will facilitate a threelesson discussion of Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address,” culminating in a bus field trip to attend the 160th Dedication Day Ceremony at the Gettysburg National Cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 19 (please see Excursion section to sign up for the trip). The class will examine the historical context, purpose and themes. Also meets Friday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m., in the Keystone Room. Trip date is Nov. 19. Veterans Grove “Massing of the Colors”

Volunteers are needed for the annual flag installation. Join members of the National Sojourners, Harrisburg - Chapter No. 76, in remembering and honoring more than 7,000 U.S. military personnel who have died in the war on terrorism since 9/11. Many hands make short the work for this special remembrance tribute. Dress for cold weather and wet ground. Coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be available. Helpers are also needed for flag removal on Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. (in the case of rain, removal will be postponed to the next dry morning).

Veterans Grove Stroll

Ringgold Band Celebrates FRIDAY, NOV. 10, AT 10 A.M. OR 2 P.M. Sousa’s Birthday Walk begins at the Eternal Flame

Enjoy an easy 30-minute guided autumn stroll and Veterans Day celebration through the Veterans Grove. Discover connections between some Pennsylvania Masons who died for their country in WWI and the amazing world of oaks. Find out why oaks are keystone trees and how they have been venerated throughout human history. The walk begins at the Eternal Flame. Register by calling ext. 14512.

SATURDAY, NOV. 11, 1:30 P.M. Brossman Ballroom

All residents are invited to this annual program to honor and celebrate our living veterans of the U.S. military, both those who have served and those now serving. Following a music prelude by the March Masters, Master of Ceremonies Bryan Hill will lead the program, themed “Honoring the 268+.” This number refers to the WWI Masonic veterans listed in the Veterans Grove, and the + refers to all U.S. veterans. LTC Donna Hershey, USAR, is our guest speaker, and Larry Derr, R.W. Deputy Grand Master, will represent the Grand Master. Sponsored by the Masonic Village Veterans Committee and members of the National Sojourners - Harrisburg Chapter No. 76. Consider making a contribution for the “Help for Our Heroes” fund.

Formed in Reading in 1852, the Ringgold Band has a storied history, including being the final band slated to be conducted by the great director/composer, John Philip Sousa. To honor their unique history and acknowledge its role as a 21st century performing ensemble, the program will be a mixture of “old and new.” Marches and arrangements by Sousa, “Zampa” - the popular 19th century overture, music from Broadway and contemporary popular and patriotic music will all be featured. Please join us for a thrilling afternoon of music presented by the Ringgold Band!

Modern Primates: A Glimpse Into Human Ancestry TUESDAY, NOV. 14, 10 A.M. Keystone Room

Recent research into primates has revealed tremendous insight into human characteristics, such as visual ability, movement and intelligence. Primates are fascinating animals consisting of prosimians (e.g. lemurs), monkeys (New and Old World) and apes (chimps, gorillas, orangs) that are studied by anthropologists. Dr. Robert Wheelersburg taught human evolution at Elizabethtown College for over 30 years, which included a substantial amount of research on primates that he will share during this lecture. Sponsored by the Lifelong Discovery Fund.

Named after the famous big band leader, Glenn started performing at the age of 10. Today, he schedules well over 350 shows each year. The arsenal of instruments Glenn plays includes custom accordions, trumpets, harmonicas, trombone, flugelhorn and more! Glenn’s unique blend of music and comedy is sure to entertain.

Bob Randall’s Country Band SATURDAY, NOV. 18, 7 – 9 P.M. Brossman Ballroom

If you like real country music with a little outlaw, southern rock, blues and original music, you’ll love Bob Randall and his band. Winner of two Global Music Awards, Bob has written and recorded country music his entire life. His band will be performing a mix of cover tunes and his original songs. The dance floor will be open and light refreshments will be available, so come enjoy an evening of fine, traditional country music.

Gaither Vocal Band’s “Let’s Just Praise the Lord” pre-recorded concert is hosted by Bill Gaither. Known for their unprecedented, award-winning harmonies, this legendary band brings to life their unique renditions of some of the most popular praise and worship songs. Their music ushers in a spirit of unity and surrender, inviting listeners to sing along and proclaim victory in our savior.

Located in the Freemasons Cultural Center, the Baird Wellness Center offers an array of cardiovascular and strength equipment, functional training, personal training and group fitness classes. Massage therapy and wellness workshops on mind, body and spirit are also offered. Open daily, from 5 a.m. – 9 p.m. Staff are available Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Group exercise classes are broadcast on MVTV Monday through Friday, in the morning. Please purchase punch cards at the Baird Wellness Center. Punch cards are a way to “pay as you go” to land and aquatic classes. Visit nine self-guided buildings and get a tour of the Sisters’ House and the Meetinghouse. The tour requires walking about two city blocks with seating available at stops.
