Lori Stahl, a certified vibrational sound therapist, will be offering a sound immersion meditation. Close your eyes and allow the healing vibrations of gongs, bowls, tuning forks and other instruments lead you to a place of stillness. This form of meditation can help with energy blockages, improve sleep and bring about a sense of clarity.

LANCASTER COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (LCSWMA) PRESENTATION

Learn how LCSWMA manages the trash and recyclable materials from Lancaster County homes and businesses, as well as trash from the city of Harrisburg and surrounding Dauphin County communities. They employ a multi-step approach to disposal and processing, called an Integrated System. This Integrated System not only saves significant landfill capacity, it creates clean, renewable energy.

Finding and Studying Archaeological Sites

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2, 10:30 A.M.

Keystone Room

Hear how professional archaeologists locate sites, evaluate them and, if necessary, excavate them. We’ll examine various types of archaeological sites studied for both academic and cultural resource management purposes. Dr. Robert Wheelersburg is a retired Elizabethtown College professor and owner of Archaeological and Historical Consulting LLC, who has conducted archaeological studies in Pennsylvania for nearly 40 years. He has also worked as an archaeologist at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and done fieldwork in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Denmark, Iceland, Russia and Sweden.

This beloved annual outdoor autumn event brings together residents from the Masonic Health Care Center, personal care and retirement living. Bainbridge Band Fall Concert

SATURDAY, OCT. 5, 2 P.M.

The Bainbridge Band was first established in 1896 as a cornet band and later became a full community band with its own parade wagon. The band performs both a spring and a fall concert annually for our residents. They also provide an excellent experience for young people to learn discipline, responsibility, appreciation of music and about the band’s heritage.

Masonic Village Senior Stage Show Presents: “Plaza Suite, Act 3”

MONDAY, OCT. 7, 2 P.M.

The Masonic Village Senior Stage Show presents the third act of Neil Simon’s “Plaza Suite.” Set in the famous hotel, a mother and father fight about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom, where guests wait for her wedding. Hilarity abounds in this reader’s theater style play! Produced by the Foxy-Boozer Production Team, the play will be repeated on Monday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m., in the GLH Solarium.

Thaddeus Stevens, a U.S. Representative who lived in Gettysburg, York and Lancaster for many years, is a significant part of our local history Stevens also had a complex relationship with the Masons of his time. Presented by Rick Coplen.

Suzanne & Jim and their Americana Songster program provides a heaping handful of legacy songs featuring guitar, five-string banjo, autoharp and vocals. They will share their life’s work of traveling and playing music with friends far and wide and tell the history of the music that is part of our heritage. Make friends with this pair of songsters within an intimate setting while enjoying their music.

Writers Talk: Four Forms of Poetry

Professor Jesse Waters, director, Bowers Writers House and Community Impact at Elizabethtown College, will host a four-part presentation, Fun and Facts of Forms: Four Forms of Poetry that Stood the Test of Time. He’ll explore the sonnet, villanelle, blank verse and Ars Poetica and include his own expression of these forms, as well as interviews which he has held with some of today’s most recognized poets. Village Veterans Club Organizational Meeting

The Veterans Club work group will host a review/discussion of a draft of the Elizabethtown Masonic Village Veterans Club bylaws. They welcome “fresh sets of eyes” on the current working draft and any recommended changes before their final review and approval at the first Veterans Club quarterly meeting in November or December. German Oktoberfest Concert

FRIDAY, OCT. 11, 7 P.M.

This 10-piece ensemble of the Lukens Band of Coatesville will perform traditional German music and Oktoberfest fare to add to the autumn season, complete with lederhosen, referring to the traditional uniform of many Oktoberfest and German musicians in Austria, Bavaria, Slovenia and beyond. Their entire concert band will return on Dec. 1 for an early holiday seasonal concert. Call ext. 33205 to register for transportation.

PA Bald Eagles: Celebrating 30 Years of Restoration

TUESDAY, OCT. 15, 10 A.M.

In 1983, Pennsylvania had a mere three bald eagle nests remaining statewide. With the help of the Canadian government, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and several other states reintroduced bald eagle chicks from Saskatchewan to the Northeast United States. Today, Pennsylvania boasts more than 300 nests. Learn about their journey of recovery. Video and discussion led by Patti Barber, PA Game Commission endangered bird specialist.

Children and grandchildren of Masonic Village residents and employees are invited to trick-ortreat within the retirement living areas on campus. Halloween-themed refreshments will be served in the Keystone Room and the GLH Solarium during this time for all to enjoy. Duo Nephesh T’Omah, Saxophonists

The duo of Shaun and Mara Thompson bring you an eclectic mix of saxophone musical styles for your enjoyment! The husband-and-wife team performs classical music, songs from movies and musicals, jazz and much more. Both are music educators who met while completing their undergraduate studies in music at Lebanon Valley College. They will share the unexpected depth, scope and beauty of their chosen instrument with you.

Hauntings of the Delaware Valley

Close to home are numerous stories of hauntings, many over two hundred years old. They provide glimpses of the life and times in which the stories arose. Join Storyteller Dennis Strain as he invokes those times and calls on spirits past in preparation for Halloween. This event repeats on Wednesday, October 30, at 2pm in the Keystone Room.

Serenade String Quartet

Of the 10 British statemen and generals who are held mainly responsible for the loss of America through the American Revolution, three were directly involved in the 1777 British offensive known as the Saratoga campaign. Learn more about London and its military; American commanders Schuyler, Arnold and Gates; the roles of Native Americans on both sides; and the British and Hessian Convention Army. The War of 1812: Forgotten Conflict, Forgotten Lessons

Military lessons learned during the American Revolution were forgotten by the time of the United States’ declaration of war against Britain in 1812. This led to two years of defeat. Topics discussed include the Baltimore Riot of 1812, the fall of Washington in 1814, peace negotiations and the impact of Andrew Jackson’s victory at New Orleans in 1815. Low Vision Support Group

Next meeting is Thursday, Oct. 3, at 9 a.m., in the Keystone Room.

Please join with other residents who struggle with vision loss. This support group will meet every other month and alternate between the GLH Solarium and Keystone Room locations. This group is open to all residents and is facilitated by Brooke Zubeck, Home Health social worker.

ROOSTER WOODSHOP

Masonic Village Rooster Woodshop is located on the corner of Freemason Drive and Umbaugh Drive. The showroom is open Monday through Friday, from 8 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m. It is also open on Saturday, from 8 – 11 a.m. There are many assorted items produced by the members. All items on display are for sale, and all Masonic Village residents and employees receive a 15% discount on a showroom item priced $100 or more. The shop can produce custom furnishings and novel items from wood, and members can also perform minor repairs to furniture upon request. Scan the QR code for a link to our Facebook page.

Chess anyone? Our experienced woodworker John Lewis crafted this chess board and 32-piece chess set from assorted species of wood using a scroll saw. The chess board hosts a drawer for storage of the chess pieces. His attention to detail is astounding. John entered his work in this year’s Elizabethtown Fair contest for Scroll Saw Projects, and he won first place!
