Epilogue: An Atheist’s Adieu 01 Celebration of life center - Lots Road Power Station - Postgraduate - Thesis - 2018 Death is one of the inevitable events to take place in one’s life and with rapid urbanisation, cities are running out of burial space. Likewise, the non-religious/atheist population is projected to drastically increase in the forthcoming decades and they do not have a crematorium or a graveyard to call their own. This thesis project is an attempt to address these issues through a design of a celebration of life centre for atheists. It has been designed to be more publicly accessible and is a prototype that can be developed. A sense of creative immortality, where one’s name lives on through his/her works of art or literature and the importance given to music in non-religious/humanist funerals help form the framework of the design of this project. 6

Prescience, Sub-brand for John Lewis 02 Barber & parlour, Shoreditch - Postgraduate - Retail Design - 2017 The brief was to create a sub-brand for the John Lewis Partnership and redesign the interiors of Barber & Parlour, Shoreditch, London to showcase the collections of this sub-brand. Considering the popularity Shoreditch has for street art, fashion, design and with an uprise of tech companies, innovative high-tech visual display devices has been chosen as the exclusive set of retail products and the brand has been named “Prescience” (the fact of knowing something in advance; foreknowledge). Abstract ideas taken from the concept of a pixel and strategies for best suitable conditions for the products to be viewed, helped create the whole cohesive package of Logo design, branding, packaging, advertising, pop up design and the retail store design. The layouts are planned priortizing the best way to experience each product and it is achieved through varied circulation across three levels. 16

03 Environmental Awareness Center Island Grounds, Chennai - Undergraduate - Thesis - 2016 The environmental issues of Chennai had been on a constant growth with increasing water crisis, encroachment of lakes, unapproved developments, air and water pollution to add on to the global issues of climate change and global warming. As a countermeasure to the lack of environmental protection, environmental awareness should be promoted quite vividly amongst the people. To make it more of a tangible experience, in order to the reach the people better an Environmental Awareness Center(EAC) is proposed. Cooum river that runs through Chennai is especially known for its high level of pollution and is in need of restoration. The site chosen is the Island grounds which is located along the creek of the Cooum river, next to a landmark that is the Napier bridge. It would be one of the best locations to demonstrate environmental awareness and would also act as a prototype to rectify contaminated water bodies. The key components of the EAC are the visitors center, botanical gardens, environmental awareness museum, eco dome and the research and develope center, which all contribute to the sole message of what the name of the project stands for.

The Eco dome is a climatically controlled glass enclosure that hosts various species of plants that would not survive otherwise, in the region. The idea is to express the beauty and uses of unfamiliar species of plants to the domestic visitors, to bring about awarness and admiration towards plant life. Myriad glass used cuts off 35% of the heat and sprinklers help control internal climate. 34

Bank 04 Memory Non-Architecture Competition(Dying) - Community Award - 2019 #Experience #Sharing #Relive #Technology #Memory After hundreds of years of existence, we the human species still make the same mistakes our predecessors did. A significant percent of the population has always fallen victim to life’s harmful addictions, poor upbringing, business failures, unhealthy relationships, failed careers and so on. Our most important life lessons have always been learnt at the cost of time, relationships, health, and money. But what if it was possible to live someone else’s experience in their human form, in their environment, in that period of time, feel the exact things they felt, but with that memory registered on to our brain to learn from? Memory bank is that place where someone’s experience or untold story helps another in a distant time, by reliving it. It is the evolution of a cemetery, fused with the concept of library but enabling first-hand experience. After the corpse is processed, the memory of the three most valuable experiences of one’s life is reconstructed in code; only the brain is preserved through advanced cryonics and capsulated to recreate scenarios from its memory. The disposal of remains of the corpse is done through alkaline hydrolysis.

05 Thinnai Small Scale Architecture Essay Competition - 2019 In these modern times where society is being rapidly restructured under great influence of social media and globalization, the lack of sense of community among people in urban areas is increasing day by day. We are open to the whole virtual world but not the world around us. A sustainable city is a ‘fun city’, which is culturally interactive, integrated and diverse. In order to create a safe society, architectural interventions should be created within the city’s streets and along with the buildings . ‘Thinnai’ is a Tamil word for a raised plinth positioned in front of houses. It is a small architectural feature found in traditional homes of south India. It serves as a transitional space for neighbors and passers-by to relax and interact; without affecting the privacy of the dwellers. 40

y around thinnai

Regardless of its scale, ‘Thinnai’ is one of the most multi-functional architectural spaces of these buildings. Designed to function as seating space for the resident, it also invites unplanned casual conversations, acts as stands that host numerous people at times of a grand festival or a parade, improves the safety of the locality by promoting social activities among the community and so on . Its high thermal mass also helps to keep the house cool in the summer evenings and warm during winter nights . What distinguishes it from similar architectural features around the world like porches and patios are that it’s an inclusively inviting semi-public space. Its rare transition from the outside to inside gradually enables both the private and the public to mutually benefit from it. 41
