...and welcome to Issue 19 of Australian Scrapbook Ideas. With a new year well underway, we are looking forward to all the exciting things we have planned over the coming months. I have been busy at CHA in America since I last caught up with you and it was fantastic! It was very tiring but well worth it for all the amazing trends and products that I got to play with. I will be bringing you lots of news and ideas from my time there throughout the year. The next thing in the diary is the Melbourne Scrapbook & Papercraft Expo in March. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you there and will also be teaching a class to fellow papercrafters. Have a sneak peek at the layout I am going to be teaching over on page 66. It has been business as usual for our designers and they have come up with the most gorgeous layouts and projects for you. I couldn’t resist getting involved too when I found out we had a selection of papers from the Prima Nature Garden collection free with this issue. See what I did with them over on page 12. Candy Rosenberg is well known for her dress form work and now you can get the look too, with her tips on how to recreate her style in miniature with Craft Concepts dress forms. To top it off, she also shares one of her canvases with us on page 14. I am so pleased to be able to bring you more from the talented Jane Tregenza on page 50. This year we are bringing you a women of the family-themed board book across the next few issues. You will be able to follow Jane’s lead and create your very own version to pass on your memories to future generations. Every issue, we will bring you another two pages, so that by the end of this year you will have a completed book. What a wonderful project for yourself or a gift for someone dear to you! We scrapbookers all love ways to extend our supplies and make our own unique embellishments. Adriana Bolzon shares some fantastic ideas for creating your own winged wonders on page 36 to help make your next layout soar. Mistra Hoolahan brings us a practical solution to all those leftover chipboard alphabets, on page 60. I have boxes of them, so I asked Mistra to show us what she would do with them and she has come up with some fantastically imaginative ways of avoiding throwing out all of those ‘Zs’. New designer Trudi Harrison shows us the hottest new trend on page 44 with woodland layouts. The woodland theme is so very in and I love it because it is suitable for the boys but also so pretty with that touch of nature about it. I hope you are as inspired as I was. And on page 87, one of our other great mixed media artists, Michelle Grant, puts texture paste to the test, with awesome results. I particularly love the canvas as it shows that you don’t need to always have a photo to create a beautiful work of art with your scrapping supplies. Lastly, we have guest designer Hetty Hall on page 92, well known for her beyond 12x12" layouts. I hope you enjoy her latest works featuring Kaisercraft die-cuts. As well as this, we have all our regular galleries, news and challenges to inspire and regenerate you as a papercrafter. Until next time… Happy creating!

E
ach week our postbag is overflowing with questions from our readers. So we decided to Mistra Hoolahan get one of our designers on the case to answer your queries about technique and style. This issues, Mistra Hoolahan takes on the task. Find out more about Mistra’s work at www.mistrabutterfly.blogspot.com Where do you get your inspiration from? I'm really not sure! I know many scrapbookers know exactly where theirs comes from, but I just relax, create and allow my project to become whatever it wants to be. Often I will see some new papers or embellishments that get my inspiration flowing, or I'll notice something wonderful someone has made and it makes me want to go and create. What is your style, and how did it evolve? My style is always changing, but right now I'd say my comfort style would be vintage, with a little bit of girlie grunge thrown in. I started as a very simple scrapper, just some photos, cut into ovals, some acid-free paper and journaling. When I discovered a local scrap shop and an online forum my scrapping world transformed. After that I took notice of what other scrapbookers did, tried new products and new techniques, which I morphed with my own twists to create my own style. What is your favourite technique at the moment? Right now I love creating my own flowers from cardstock, patterned paper and fabric – whatever is lying around on my desk. I can get the size, colour and shape that I want, all made to match what I’m working on.Teamed up with my favourite manufactured flowers they add that little bit more of ‘me’ to my projects. How do you come up with your wonderful techniques? Most come from trial and error and mistakes, I call it ‘playing’! Generally it’s just seeing how things react differently with one another. Often I research to see what other people have done with a product, try it their way, make a total mess of it and then create my own technique from what I have learned not to do! What is your favourite subject to scrapbook? Almost anything! I love photos that I can combine with pastels, flowers and all those wonderful girly things with, but generally a good photo with a great memory is my favourite. Currently I am scrapping photos from my trip away to New York and am having wonderful fun as it allows me to try other styles in order to complement the photos. Letters
Scrap chat We love hearing from our readers and finding out what you think of the magazine. There is a prize of scrapbooking supplies for anyone who has a letter or layout published, so get in touch!
Always inspired I’d like to say well done and thank you for a wonderful magazine! I love the free papers (although some of them are too pretty to use) and there’s always lots of information and advice as well as the activity pack, which is fantastic if you have scrapper’s block. Here are some pages I have created. I’ve been scrapping since 2007 and have five albums on the go. I was very ill in January this year so did lots of scrapbooking during my recovery. I also attended my first crop at Crab Apple Crafts in Frodsham in April this year and I loved it!

Advent creation I just wanted to say thank you to Australian Scrapbook Ideas for the free Christmas craft book that came with Issue 16. It had some fantastic festive ideas and I particularly liked the advent calendar and decided to make one each for my children using the handy template in the back of the booklet. It was a great way to use up all my little scraps of papers and numbers. I used a pin board, which I sprayed silver to mount the little boxes on.The children couldn’t wait until December 1st!
Susie Brown, by email
Inspired by stamps I got your magazine for the first time recently when my husband picked up a copy for me and I just love it! Thank you for the free papers and brilliant inspiration. My main hobby is cardmaking, but I’ve recently started scrapbooking too. I’ve attached a page I made using a photo of my son and his girlfriend. I was so inspired by a postage stamp backing paper I saw online that I made my own!
