WELCOME

Hello... …and welcome to issue 71 of Australian Simply Cards. This month, we have heaps of fantastic projects and techniques to share with you and, to get your creativity started, we have a fantastic free bumper stamp set from IndigoBlu for you to enjoy. Head over to page 12 for some inspiring ideas using them. As always, we’ve been keeping a careful eye on the latest trends and we’ve noticed that bicycle imagery is cropping up everywhere at the moment. We explore this theme with some fun ideas over on page 16. Stepper cards are as popular as ever and, this month, Alicia Barry creates some stunning samples for you to try over on page 24. They’re sure to brighten up your days as we head into the warmer seasons. Speaking of bright, our colouring feature this issue includes some zingy floral cards using Derwent Inktense pencils. Check out the rich, vibrant tones of this collection over on page 32. If you’re looking for fun techniques to try, then get busy with embossing enamels. We explore some of the fun ways to use this medium over on page 50. We also give Tsukineko’s Radiant Neon inkpads a once over on page 58, where Linda Lucas shares her thoughts on how to use them. It doesn’t matter how many new techniques or products you have to hand, some of us still find masculine makes a bit of a challenge. But we have them covered with plenty of quick-make designs over on page 72. And to celebrate the scent of spring in the air, we also have some fabulous floral creations over on page 90. Now these are just the highlights this month and we have lots more including silhouette stamping and some pretty floral die-cutting. And if you can’t wait for next issue, take a sneaky peek at our digital preview of issue 72 by visiting www.ppjump.com/asc72preview So until next month… Happy crafting!

On your bike

Teresa Abajo Designer

Get on trend with these fun bicycle-themed cards from Teresa Abajo

I

f there’s one icon that conjures up images of being carefree, feeling happy and having fun, it would have to be the bicycle. Whether the intended recipient of your card is a young child who aspires to, one day, own a big bike with just two wheels, a health conscious mum who rides a bike to keep fit, or a grandfather who reminisces about having to ride to school every day (uphill both ways of

16

course!) a bicycle image is a suitable addition to a card for a wide range of age groups. Bicycles can be adapted to suit a variety of styles from vintage – featuring a quaint bicycle with a basket, to modern – with a bright BMX bike. Use them for a variety of occasions too, from birthdays to ‘bon voyage!’ greetings. Bike images are perfect to accompany quotes about travelling, journeys and personal growth. A bike

would be great on a congratulatory card where it could represent hard work and reward, or a very special coming of age gift (I’ll never forget the shiny red bike I got for my 6th birthday!). There are a wide variety of methods to get the image of a bike onto your creation. From patterned paper to die-cuts, wood veneer shapes to metal charms and rubberstamps, you are sure to find something bike themed

without much effort. Different styles are also catered for – modern and clean-lined items as well as retro or vintage. There really is something to suit every style and budget. The cards I have put together show how versatile the bicycle can be. Receiving a card with a bike on it is sure to put a smile on the recipient’s face, so be sure to consider the humble bicycle next time you are creating. ●

Radiant Neon

Linda Lucas Designer

Linda Lucas creates some colourful card designs using the new Imagine Crafts Radiant Neon inkpads

I

t’s no secret; crafters love to create. And experimenting with fabulous new products available on the market is always really exciting. The inks that I’ve used in this collection, Imagine Crafts Radiant Neon inkpads, are a dream to work with. They’re luscious pigment inks boasting eye-popping colour in seven divine shades and they suit most styles, looking striking on both light and dark-coloured cardstock. Don’t let their bright colours fool you though, these inks

58

can be used for clean and simple designs as well as vintage looks, and anything else in between. I have used them to sponge with stencils, and I’ve tried combining colours as well as using single tones. Faux letterpress techniques are perfect for these pigment inks too and they certainly make the card ‘pop’ – especially when used with 3D M-Bossabilities to highlight both embossing and debossing. Stamping onto coloured cardstock is fun and gives

great results – especially darker colours stamped onto coloured card. And blending inks has never been easier, with the resultant colour being resistant to fading. Being a pigment ink, Radiant Neon inkpads are ideal for using with clear embossing powder and heat tools. This gives you the option of matching your embellishments with your papers and eliminates the need to carry out a long search for a matching inkpad. With these products, you’re

able to create your own radiant range that is sure to get noticed – and I hope my collection inspires you to do just that. ●
