EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL Â AND BREAST CANCER PREVENTION By Jenny HillsÂ There are a number of scientific reports and studies that explain how olive oil can help you to reduce the risks associated with breast cancer.

A study done at the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Spain further explained how olive oil can help to reduce your risk of developing cancer.

The Mediterranean diet and the consumption of extra virgin olive oil can and does help to reduce the risk factors that are responsible for developing breast cancer.

A study published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention reported that individuals who lived in the Mediterranean basin had reduced risks in terms of developing degenerative diseases like cancer and cardiovascular disease.

In this study scientists isolated a compound found in olive oil that targets the HER2 compound in cancer tumors. They also discovered that some of the beneficial compounds in olive oil, like the compound that targets HER2, are destroyed by different processing methods like heating.

Add two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil a day to your diet. Add it to your salad dressing or coat the olive oil on fish, meat or veggies before baking or roasting them or use olive oil on your morning toast.

They concluded that olives and olive oil may be one of the reasons why these individuals had reduced risks. Olive oil and olives are abundant in antioxidants, lignans, and other compounds that can reduce the risk factors associated with developing cancer.

In the study, the scientists managed to show that olive oil targets cancer cells and they proved that the consumption of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or EVOO, reduced the malignancy of the tumors.

RECIPE

SALMON WITH GRAPEFRUIT, WALNUTS AND PEPPERS. Ingredients

Method

* 2 salmon loins * 1 green pepper * 1 red pepper * 1 yellow pepper * 1 pink grapefruit * Borges Extra Virgin Olive Oil * Salt * Pepper * 80gr Borges Walnuts

Season the salmon loins with salt and pepper and spread them with olive oil. Lightly fry the loins in a frying pan for 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Wash and finely chop the peppers. Peel and slice the grapefruit saving all the juice. Heat oil in a pan and fry the peppers lightly until they are soft. Add the grapefruit, the walnuts and sautĂŠ. Finally add the juice. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve together with the salmon loins.

"The club has currently opened its applications for the Handball and Volleyball nurseries for upcoming season." Phoenix Sports Club is one of the largest sports clubs in Malta with teams competing in National and International Handball, American Football and Volleyball leagues. The Club has around 200 athletes competing in different categories of each sports.

The club has currently opened its applications for the Handball and Volleyball nurseries for upcoming season. The Club is looking for Boys and Girls from the ages of 6 to 16 for its Handball teams. Training are held twice a week in Msidra area. Applications are also open for girls between the ages of 8 and 12 to start the game of Volleyball. Training for Volleyball sessions is held in Naxxar. Both Handball and Volleyball sessions are carried out under the guidance of the best local coaches. All levels and abilities are welcome to join in. The club also offers one free month of training before deciding to commit and register with us.

In recent years the club has affirmed itself as being one of the top local clubs and also one of the biggest handball clubs on the islands. The Club is also currently the National U/14, U/16 and U/18 Volleyball Champions.In both Volleyball and Handball, the club is currently competing on behalf of the locality of Swieqi.
