DESPITE THE CITY’S INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SEA, THE SITE IS A VISUAL & PHYSICAL OBSTRUCTION THAT LIMITS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN BARCELONA’S TWO “WORLDS”. THIS PROJECT PROPOSES TO REPLACE AN EXISTING STORAGE FACILITY AT THE MUNICIPAL NAUTICAL BASE WITH A LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE STRUCTURE, WHICH RESPONDS TO THE SPATIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY & CREATES A DIALOGUE BETWEEN INDOOR & OUTDOOR AREAS.

THE DYNAMIC CONCRETE CANOPY ACCOMODATES A VARIETY OF MIXED-USE SPACES, INCLUDING A NEW RECEPTION, OPEN-AIR BOAT & EQUIPMENT STORAGE & INDOOR RECREATIONAL FACILITIES. SPACES FOR EXCHANGE (2018-19) NAVIGATING THE BOUNDARIES OF BARCELONA: REDEFINING A MODERN CITY’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SEA.
