• Public toilets are located in metro station vestibules, but changing tables are rare. They are, however, common in shopping mall restrooms and baby-friendly businesses. • Most places offer discounts on admission for children, and the youngest (generally under age 3) usually do not pay at all. Family rates are also common. Children and students up to age 26 have free admission to all permanent exhibitions at Prague’s National Gallery.

Museums & Galleries 1 DOX – Centre for Contemporary Art q Poupětova 1, Prague 7 w dox.cz DOX is a magical place for families who are interested in contemporary art and architecture. The gallery is barrier-free so that you can get inside even with a stroller. Sit in the café or head out onto the terrace, where the giant wooden airship Gulliver looms. The gallery also holds workshops for parents and children from age 5 and up. D2/E2 2 Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia (Klášter sv. Anežky České) q U Milosrdných 17, Prague 1 w ngprague.cz On the ground floor of the complex, there is a tour dedicated to the history of the convent, including workshops where children can try various writing and printing techniques. The delightful convent gardens are filled with works by contemporary artists, including a charming cottage and carriage by František Skála designed for children. Entry to the gardens and ground floor of the convent is free. C3

32 Sharpshooter’s Island (Střelecký ostrov) q Prague 1 w prague.eu Unfenced playground with a variety of wood and rope balancing elements – suitable in particular for children aged 5 and up. From the bridge, you can reach the island by stairs or take the lift down. B4

11 National Museum of Agriculture (Národní zemědělské muzeum) q Kostelní 44, Prague 7 w nzm.cz Older and younger children will like the Water in the Landscape, Fishing and the Gastronomy and Cooking exhibitions. Toddlers can ride on toy tractors and have their picture taken with a real historical tractor, while older kids can play a computer game or try the simulator in a real tractor cab. Don’t forget to check out the beautiful views from the rooftop terrace. C3

Park & Gardens 12 Prague Botanical Garden (Botanická zahrada hl. m. Prahy) q Trojská 196, Prague 7 w botanicka.cz The best way to enjoy the Botanical Garden is to enter through the upper entrance and make your way down towards the Zoo, while enjoying the view of Troja Island and the Vltava River. Take a walk through various areas simulating habitats on other continents, interspersed with a wooden playground, a metal lookout tower, art installations, and even beehives. In the spring, there is usually a wonderful exhibition of butterflies in the Fata Morgana greenhouse. C1

23 National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill (Národní památník na Vítkově) q U Památníku 1900, Prague 3 w nm.cz The monumental equestrian statue of military leader Jan Žižka is sure to impress many a young person. The view from the platform at the top of the monument is unforgettable. Be very careful with children, however – even on the café terrace on the top floor. The café is otherwise quite nice and has a children’s play area. E4 24 New Mill Water Tower (Novomlýnská vodárenská věž) q Nové mlýny 3a, Prague 1 w muzeumprahy.cz Apart from the unusual view, there’s an interactive exhibition about the past and present of fire brigades, which should be interesting for the more adventurous types. 13 Grébovka – Havlíček Park (Havlíčkovy sady) q Prague 2 w prague.eu Overlooking the Nusle district, this park features a grotto with a fountain and a nice playground for kids big and small. D5/D6 14 Royal Game Reserve – Stromovka q Prague 7 w prague.eu In this vast park, you can run, skate, ride your bike or scooter, work out on the outdoor equipment, or have a picnic. Children will enjoy the large playgrounds at the entrance from Letná (there are toilets and changing tables) and at the baby-friendly Vozovna café. Best of all is the rope-drawn raft to a small island in the middle of one of the ponds. C2/B2

25 Petřín Lookout Tower (Petřínská rozhledna) q Petřínské sady 1, Prague 1 w muzeumprahy.cz Essentially a smaller copy of the Eiffel Tower. In nice weather, you can see Prague and its surroundings laid out before you. Suitable for ages 5 and up; there is an elevator. A4 26 Old Town Bridge Tower (Staroměstská mostecká věž) q Karlův most, Prague 1 w muzeumprahy.cz The tower offers a fabulous view of the bridge and the river. In the visitor center, watch an animated film that tells the legend of the bridge’s construction. Suitable for ages 6 and up. B4/C4

15 Letná Park (Letenské sady) q Prague 7 w prague.eu Letná Park has several nice playgrounds for children big and small. You can also play pétanque and roller skate. Skateboarders love the plaza under the Metronome – and it’s also the place to catch the best views of the city. C3/B3 16 Parukářka Park q Prague 3 w parukarka.cz While strolling through Žižkov, be sure to stop at Parukářka Park. Parents will enjoy the beautiful view of the city, while kids will love the large playground. In good weather, you can use one of the public grills and have a lovely family picnic. E4 17 Petřín q Prague 1 w prague.eu A favourite destination for families with children and couples in love. The easiest way to reach the top of the hill is with the funicular, accessible with a regular transport ticket. Petřín Lookout Tower is popular for its incredible views of the city (elevator available), and the mirror maze is an endless source of giggles. Walking paths criss-cross the park and are lined with benches with great views; there are even several playgrounds here. B4/A4/B5/A5

3 Railway Kingdom (Království železnic) q Stroupežnického 23, Prague 5 w kralovstvi-zeleznic.cz This huge electric train paradise, featuring realistic miniature Czech cities, is suitable for anyone who loves trains, regardless of age. B5 4 Museum of Karel Zeman (Muzeum Karla Zemana) q Saská 3, Prague 1 w muzeumkarlazemana.cz A museum dedicated to the legend of Czech animation Karel Zeman. Children can “fly” on the flying machine, watch movie trailers (with headphones), and take a look behind the scenes of some special film effects. Suitable for ages 6 and up. B4 5 LEGO Museum q Národní 31, Prague 1 w muzeumlega.cz This is the largest museum of the famous Danish building blocks in the world. It features 20 thematic exhibitions with 2,500 models, a play area, and a shop. The main attractions include a model of Prague’s National Museum and a five-meter-long model of the Charles Bridge. Suitable for ages 3 and up. C4 6 Public Transport Museum (Muzeum MHD) q Patočkova 4, Prague 6 w dpp.cz/muzeum-mhd Children can explore the development of transport from the horse-drawn historical tram to modern types. Also on display are old Soviet-style metro cars. You can even check out the interiors of most of the vehicles. The best way to get to the museum is by the historical tram #41. A3 7 Museum of Senses (Muzeum Smyslů) q Jindřišská 20, Prague 1 w muzeumsmyslu.cz An imaginative, fun exhibition where you can truly test all five human senses – entertaining for older children and adults. Learn how a mirage happens, how various optical illusions work, and understand how fakirs can lie on beds of nails. Suitable for children aged 6 and up who already have good spatial orientation. C4

18 Garden of Paradise (Rajská zahrada) q U Rajské zahrady 1, Prague 3 w park-rajska-zahrada.cz This garden, well-hidden in a hillside, is a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of Žižkov. Fish and aquatic turtles swim in the pond. Parents can sit in the café while their children play on the playground or in the indoor play area. D4

27 Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock (Staroměstská radnice s orlojem) q Staroměstské nám. 1, Prague 1 w prague.eu/oldtownhall Be sure to stop here just before the clock strikes the hour and watch the legendary Prague Astronomical Clock perform. The beautiful interior of the Town Hall is also open for tours, as are the underground spaces. A climb up to the tower (there’s also an elevator) offers a fantastic view of the Old Town and Prague Castle from a height of nearly 70 meters. C4 28 Prague Castle Gardens q Prague Castle, Prague 1 w hrad.cz Gardens surround Prague Castle from all sides and provide pleasant spots to relax after visiting the Castle. The most historically prized is the Royal Garden with its Singing Fountain. B4/B3 29 Žižkov Television Tower q Mahlerovy sady 1, Prague 3 w towerpark.cz The 216 m high tower is reminiscent of a space rocket and is the tallest building in the city. According to several rankings, it’s also one of the ten ugliest buildings in the world. The view from the tower, however, is impressive. An elevator will take you up. Ten fiberglass sculptures of babies by the artist David Černý crawl up and down its façade. E4

The River and Its Islands

19 Rieger Park (Riegrovy sady) q Prague 2 w prague.eu A large, well-maintained playground attracts children of all ages. Nearby are a restaurant and a refreshments kiosk, as well as a small café in the park. D4/D5

Prague Ferries (Pražské přívozy) The ferry is the most entertaining way to get from one bank of the Vltava to the other. It usually operates from April to October, and all you need is a normal public transport ticket. More at w pid.cz/privozy.

20 Wallenstein Garden (Valdštejnská zahrada) q Letenská, Prague 1 w senat.cz A Baroque garden where children can watch the ornamental carp in the pond, peek into the grotto, and stroll among the peacocks, some of which are rare albinos. B4

Rowboat and Pedal Boat Rentals Popular pedal or rowboats are a great way to cool off and have some fun, especially in the summer months. Rentals are available on Slavonic Island and the Smetana embankment.

21 Vyšehrad q V Pevnosti 5b, Prague 2 w praha-vysehrad.cz Only the walls remain of the ancient seat of Czech princes, but the place offers beautiful views of the Vltava River and Prague. In addition to the church of Sts Peter and Paul, the rotunda of St Martin, and the cemetery where many famous Czechs have been laid to rest, there are also several cafés and a jungle gym for kids. Sightseeing Boats and Cruises Prague Steamboat Company w paroplavba.cz, Prague Boats w evd.cz, and Prague Venice w prazskebenatky.cz offer cruises on old-fashioned steamboats and modern boats. You can even take a boat to the Zoo.

22 Prague Zoo q U Trojského zámku 3, Prague 7 w zoopraha.cz Prague Zoo is known as one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe. Seeing the wide variety of animals is a given, but children also love the Bororo play area, the sightseeing train, the chairlift, the Children’s Zoo, where they can run around among the animals and feed them special pellets, and the pony rides. On top of the hill, which you can reach by foot or by chairlift, there’s a wooden lookout tower. There are several good restaurants in the complex. B1

Others 30 Feeding swans, ducks, gulls, and nutrias On the Vltava waterfront, ideally in Lesser Town, you can feed waterfowl, and sometimes even nutrias will join the feeding queue. Please feed only grain, corn, cooked rice, chopped vegetables or granules for fish (not bread). B4

46 Erhart Café q Milady Horákové 56, Prague 7 w erhartovacukrarna.cz Erhart offers excellent cakes and pastries made from high-quality ingredients. There’s a play area available. C3 47 Chocolate Monkey q Havelská 8, Prague 1 w chocolatemonkey.cz A place where you can make your own chocolate. During a 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the secrets of choosing and blending individual ingredients. You can devour your creations on the spot or take them with you as a souvenir. C4

33 Žluté lázně q Podolské nábřeží 3, Prague 4 w zlutelazne.cz Sports and wellness center open during the summer months – ideal for half-day and full-day stays with children. You can sunbathe on the grassy beach, play beach volleyball or pétanque, or take a pedal boat, kayak, or motorboat out on the Vltava. There are several interconnected kiddie pools, a wading pool, and a play area. B7

Playgrounds and Play Areas 34 Playground U Vodárny q Slezská 68, Prague 3 w prague.eu Kids of all ages will have a great time at this large playground, featuring a wooden climbing castle, a sandbox, several climbing structures and swings for little kids, a ball court, and a large built-in inflatable trampoline. In addition to plenty of climbing structures, there’s also a court for ball games, a pétanque court, and a small skatepark. B5/B4 36 Gutovka q Gutova 39, Prague 10 w gutovka.cz There is plenty to do at the Gutovka sports complex for both younger and older children – including slides, a sandbox, a rope course, a climbing wall, and an artificial stream with several shallow pools for water games. 37 Kinský Garden Playground q Prague 5 w prague.eu The playground here is well-maintained, fenced, and open yearround. It’s best suited for smaller children. There are also toilets and a changing table here. The nearby Ethnographic Museum has a pleasant café with toys for children. B5 38 Kasárna Karlín q Prvního pluku 2, Prague 8 w kasarnakarlin.cz The courtyard of a former barracks conceals two bars, indoor and outdoor cinemas, a sandpit, a playground, a metal observation tower, and an outdoor bouldering wall – plenty of things to entertain both kids and their parents. D4 39 Ladronka q Prague 6 w prague.eu The park has two playgrounds. One is located near the bus stop, the second next to the local café on the other side of the park. Both of them are fenced and open year-round.

Children can scramble up the climbing wall, watch a film in the kids’ cinema, or play undisturbed. C4 41 Cat Café (Kočičí kavárna) q Vodní 7, Prague 5 kocicicikavarna A delightful little café full of different specially designed climbing elements for cats. A total of 9 cats hang out here – all clean, vaccinated, neutered, well-fed, and they sleep most of the time. If one decides to come to you, you can pet it. Suitable for children aged 6 and up. B5 42 Králík v rádiu q Křižíkova 65a, Prague 8 w kralikvradiu.cz Králík v rádiu is a completely child- and baby-friendly restaurant, suitable for toddlers and older kids up to about age 8. The play area is spacious, and childminders keep an eye on the children and keep them entertained. E3

48 Myšák q Vodičkova 31, Prague 1 w mysak.ambi.cz Myšák exudes an atmosphere reminiscent of the early days of Czechoslovakia. The current owners have stayed true to the traditions of the café’s founder, pastry chef František Myšák. The interior is beautiful and the pastries excellent. C4

In addition to the massive selection of toys for sale, there’s also a large carousel, a slide, and many small play areas where children can try the toys and building sets. In winter months, there are plenty of indoor attractions (water slides, wild river), and during summer, the outdoor wild river is open. Older children and adults will enjoy the adrenaline attractions, whirlpools, and saunas. Most suitable for ages 5 and up. 54 Historical Tram Line #41 w dpp.cz/historicka-tramvajova-linka-c-41 Ride the historical tram from the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds to the Střešovice tram depot – you’ll get a great sightseeing tour of the city centre and then enjoy the Public Transport Museum D2 55 Petřín Funicular (Lanová dráha) q Újezd, Prague 1 w dpp.cz/lanova-draha-na-petrin A ride on the Petřín funicular will surely be an excellent experience for children, especially if you combine it with a visit to the large playground located at the base and a tour of the observation tower, the mirror maze, and the observatory at the top. Reservations are a must for this restaurant. Suitable for ages 6 and up. C4

Where to Go to Keep Children From Getting Bored in Prague

• The easiest way to get around Prague with children is by public transportation. The transport network is dense and well-connected. Children up to age 10 ride for free (with proof of age); children aged 10 to 15 pay reduced fares. More at w dpp.cz.

Scenic Views

10 National Technical Museum (Národní technické muzeum) q Kostelní 42, Prague 7 w ntm.cz Kids of all ages will love this museum. The most popular exhibit here is the grand transportation hall with cars, motorcycles, airplanes, and boats. In the children’s corner, little engineers can build models of machines using the traditional Czech Merkur building set. Recommended from about age 5 and up. C3

The route leads from the main railway station across the impressive Hlubočepy viaduct, between the rocks in the Košíře nature park to the Prague-Zličín station and then back again. An excellent tip for a fun excursion for very little money. D4
