Library to host meeting for children’s classes and youth empowerment The Cañon City Public Library will host an informational and organizational meeting for parents and families at 10:30 a.m. April 14 at 516 Macon Ave. Toni Goggans will be the moderator of the meeting. She hopes to have classes for children and youth at the library in future months to help with youth empowerment, as well as teaching courtesy, kindness and generosity. Ditch/culvert maintenance responsibility Irrigation season begins soon and water will be flowing in the ditches and laterals again. The Oil Creek Ditch and South Cañon Ditch are already on and the Hydraulic Ditch should be on within a week or two. Regardless of whether residents own water rights or use the irrigation water, it is the responsibility of the property owners/tenants to keep the ditches adjacent to the property free of debris which may cause obstructions to the free flow of water (City of Cañon City Municipal Code 12.16.020). Remember also that irrigation ditches and laterals are not to be used for dumping of trash, pet/animal waste, vegetative matter or any other substance. The water that flows in the ditches is used for irrigating crops, yards and gardens. The water eventually makes its way back to the Arkansas River and anything dumped into the ditch has the potential to be carried to the river. Trash and debris may also plug trash racks along the ditches, which may lead to the ditch overflowing during heavy storm events. Residents can help keep trash and debris out of the ditches by not throwing anything into them, not littering city streets and by making sure the lids to garbage dumpsters are kept securely closed to prevent blowing trash from entering the ditches.

Stop by and see this beautiful collection of acrylic works, which captures the heartfelt warmth of Frushour’s love of color and inspiration from her flower gardens. The library is located at 130 Church Ave. in Florence. For more information, call 719-784-4649.

JJ’s Helping Paws to host dry cat food drive

A spring dry cat food drive will benefit cats in Fremont County. Sponsored by JJ’s Helping Paws, organizers need dry cat food to feed cat colonies that are part of the TNR (trap, neuter and return) program in Fremont County. The event will be from 10 am. to 2 p.m. April 22 at City Market in Canon City. This program started more than six years ago by JJ’s Helping Paws and since then close to 2000 cats have been spayed and neutered. Worldwide Treasures reopens store in Florence

Carie Canterbury Daily Record

FLORENCE — After having been closed for nearly five years, Worldwide Treasures is back in business. Owner Harriet Graham reopened the store this month at 118 W. Main St. in Florence, next door to where she previously had operated the business. “I really wanted to come back here,” she said. “I missed all my customers.” Worldwide Treasures specializes in one-of-a-kind items, with a heavy focus on handmade jewelry. She also offers pottery, paintings, American Indian art, handmade Hopi kachina dolls, rocks and minerals and more.

“I’m never in competition with anybody because most of this is one of a kind,” Graham said. “We really have something for everyone’s budget.” Graham owns a turquoise mine in Cripple Creek, which allows her to offer handmade jewelry crafted by five American Indians. She has been working directly with them since 1989. High-quality, handmade consignment items also are welcomed at Worldwide Treasures. Currently on consignment, Graham has a variety of needlework including Easter items, aprons, hot pads and baby blankets. Worldwide Treasures is located inside Florence Consignment Corner, located at 118 W. Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 719-784-7434.

Organizers gearing up for 80th annual Music & Blossom Festival

Carie Canterbury Daily Record

This year marks the 80th Cañon City Music & Blossom Festival. Events will take place May 2-6 in several locations across the community, including band competitions, a carnival, food and merchandise vendors, live music and performances and, of course, the ever-popular parade. This year’s theme is a throwback to the 1980s, and parade entries are expected to reflect the full neon colors, extreme fashion and sky-high hair of that era. Here is a breakdown of the major events slated for the five-day event:

Band Competitions A total of 48 schools are expected to participate in this years’s festival, 24 of which will march in the Blossom Parade on May 5. New this year, a non-competitive choral festival has been added to the slate of performances. This event will take place all day May 3 at Florence High School. Competition co-organizer Mike Nolan said 13 choirs are expected to participate. “Most of them are local — from Pueblo and Cañon,” he said. “It’s not tied to the band results, they are just on their own.” Concert and orchestra band competitions have expanded to four days this year. They will run from May 2-5 at Cañon City High School. Jazz band competitions will be

May 4-5 at Florence High School. All band competitions and performances are free and open to the public. Blossoms in the Park Blossoms in the Park includes more than 100 vendors from across Colorado and neighboring states, as well as free entertainment, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 5 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6 in Veterans Park. Local individuals or groups interested in performing for an hour and a half to two hours on the stage during the event may call Lisa Hyams at 719-371-0292. Live entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 4 or 5 p.m. both days. “We want to give local individuals an opportunity to play and entertain while the craft fair is going on,” Hyams said. Carnival Wright’s Amusements will be back in town offering carnival games and rides for everyone from children to thrill seekers. The carnival will open May 2 and run through May 6. Watch the Cañon City Daily Record and Shopper prior to the event for more information and a money-saving coupon. Cluster Duck This year’s Cluster Duck event will be from 5-11 p.m. May 5 at its new venue, Macon Plaza, which is situated between the Cañon City Public Library and Fremont

Center for the Arts, between Fifth and Sixth streets. There will be a beer garden and live music throughout the evening. Admission is $5. The headliner will be the Kansas-based, 80s rock tribute band Paramount. “They played at Whitewater last year and they were very well received,” said Cluster Duck organizer Greg DiRito. An opening band has not yet been finalized. “This gives people of Cañon City something to do without going to the bars that weekend,” DiRito said. “It’s an opportunity for people to get out of the house and get some food.” The event is family friendly, but anyone younger than 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parade The 80th annual Blossom Parade will begin at 1 p.m. May 5 and travel east on Main Street from Fourth to 14th. The deadline for parade entry is April 15. For entry forms and a list of rules, visit www.ccblossomfestival. com. Participants may compete in either the community or school division. Prizes this year include $500 for the first place winner; $350 for second place and $200 for third place. “We want to see a lot of 80’s neon colors,” said Cass Richardson-Grow, the president of the Music & Blossom Festival committee. This year’s parade grand marshall is Don Packard, and the special guest is the 101st Army Band from Fort Carson.

RunBlossom The 14th annual RunBlossom is organized by Fremont Adventure Recreation. Early packet pick up and registration is from 5-7 p.m. May 4 with the event slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. May 5 at Centennial Park. The event includes a half marathon, 5K, YETI, strollers and walkers and kids’ races. This year’s race will not include a 5-mile run. For more information, visit www.runblossom.org. Volunteers for the entire Blossom Festival are Sara Knuth/Daily Record coordinated by the Royal Gorge Sons of Italy, who still needs volunteers in all areas during the five-day Bottom: A parade member rides along with an El Alazan dancer during the 2017 Blossom Festival event. THE AGE OF AQUARIUS THE GOLDEN AGE

The persons in the Dark will receive the Love Energy in the same potency and quality. In order to better understand the Sword Of Cleavage, we will see how the Love Energy affected the different personalities. As explained earlier we tend to gravitate and demonstrate that which we Love most. When our personality is filled with Anger, Fear, Vengence Revenge, or Animosity towards anyone or anything, this Love Energy will supply the necessary impetus to carry out the Darkest Activity which fills our mind. In the days following the Day Of Declaration, we will witness the most horrible devastation and chaos on the planet that we have ever seen. All nuclear weapons on the planet have been de activated , but all conventional weapons will still be operational. As stated in the Bible’s Book of Matthew Chapter 24, if GOD did not intervene at this time no life will be saved. MAITREYA has stated on a number of occasions that the world will have a Wilderness Experience, an experience which He will try to minimize within Law. It is incumbent that everyone makes the necessary preparations for this experience.

Since the inception of Share International magazine, Benjamin Creme’s Master has provided articles to be published not only at the time they were written, but also whenever appropriate according to world circumstances. Indeed, many of these articles seem more relevant now than when they were first published. In the following article the Master shows how commercialization has impacted the health of the planet and that of humanity. He issues a warning about the time we have left to restore balance. As if He were writing today. He points to the growing public awareness of the need to change in order to save the planet and the millions of dispossessed.

THE cURSE OF cOmmERcIALIzATION

by the master-, through Benjamin creme

If men are to save this planet from the results of global warming they must do infinitely more than is planned to limit carbon emissions, and in a shorter period of time than is generally accepted as necessary. Men have been slow to recognize the dangers, and even now many refuse to take the problems seriously. Such attitudes, there is no doubt, put in jeopardy the future of planet Earth. At most, men have ten to fifteen years* in which to establish a balance before irreparable damage is done. To achieve this goal, men must change dramatically the present way of life, and embrace simpler forms of living and working. Gone are the days in which men raped and ravaged the planet at will, without a thought for the generations still to come, neither seeing nor caring aught for the environment, which has gradually and inevitably decayed. Each year, and for many years, huge areas of ancient primal forest are cleared of life-giving trees for purely commercial benefits. Commercialization indeed bodes ill for humanity as it tightens its grip on the throats of men. Commercialization, says Maitreya, is more dangerous to men than the atomic bomb, and is showing its destructive power in the economic chaos which rules in the world today. How long will it take governments and their peoples to see this? How long till commercialization squeezes the life-blood out of humanity, and itself withers and dies? More and more, the truth of these words is borne in on the minds of millions who now, suddenly, are jobless and homeless and in despair. This has produced a situation in which Maitreya can step forward into public work without infringing humanity’s free will. Patiently has Maitreya waited many years for this time, sure in the knowledge that the events now taking place would, indeed, transpire. Commercialization has bared its claws and shown its power to harm. The complacency of millions is turning into hatred and distrust of commercialization and the old order of things. Men everywhere are at last ready for a new interpretation of the meaning and purpose of life, for sharing, justice and peace; for right relationship, brotherhood and greater happiness. They are ready, at last, for Maitreya’s call. Of course, not all men have undergone this change. There are many who imagine they can ‘sit out’ this ‘recession’ and rebuild their fortunes as before. The very rich and clever ones have lost nothing. The gap between themselves and others has simply widened in their favour.’ They fail to understand that this time is like none other. We have reached the end of the old order. Cosmic forces dictate the changes that must and will take place, otherwise life would flourish no more on planet Earth. Those who are ready will quickly respond to Maitreya’s Teaching as He puts into simple and eloquent words their heartfelt needs. Others will take longer to forgo that to which they have become accustomed, and for a time disagree. In time, millions around the world will see the need

I FOUGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY IN VIETNAM AND I WILL FIGHT FOR YOU

ELECT

SKIP MOREAU FOR YOUR

SHERIFF November 6, 2018 Election

OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP As your Sheriff of Fremont County, I will run your office in the most professional, proactive and proficient manner. I have the experience, training and background in management and law-enforcement to make this happen. I will bring to your sheriff’s office ethics, integrity, and leadership.

“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it” By Albert Einstein I will do something about it! I am making a personal investment in Fremont County in hopes of making a difference and seeing change. My campaign is self-funded I am running as an Independent Candidate, so I do not have to answer to anyone but you the people of Fremont County. I will never forget that the people are the reason I am your Sheriff and YOU are my Boss. I am elected to Protect and Serve. I will run the agency the way the people of Fremont County want to see their Sheriff’s office ran. Being the chief law enforcement officer in the county doesn't give me more authority, just more responsibility. I know there is a lot that I can and will do to make a difference. I will make Fremont County a safer and more united community; and reaffirm the residents’ faith and trust in their Sheriff’s Department. I ask that you, people of Fremont County, put your trust in me to be your next Sheriff. Your vote and support will be greatly appreciated and you will not be disappointed.

Our window has the elegant look and strength of a wood window, but our Fibrex material doesn’t demand the same maintenance of wood.*
