Ring in the new year with First Friday Ring in 2017 at The Artists' Gallery's first art event of the New Year! On First Friday, Jan. 6, the gallery invites guests for its monthly artists' reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Respected educator and painter, Ken McGowan explains, "Watercolor is my favorite medium because it gives unexpected results that often contribute to the idiosyncratic, humorous and surrealistic end product. I refine the composition-in-progress with the goal of both capturing an element of selfexpression and eliciting a reaction in its viewer." For award-wining painter, Phyllis Waltman, the horse is a living inspiration, a lifelong passion. Western and cowboy culture populate the artist's work. She is constantly inspired by the nature of the horse, whether living free or partnered up with mankind. Phyllis' work has appeared in shows across the country, including the Churchill Downs Museum in Kentucky. Laraine Wright, masterful jeweler and owner of Hanging by a Thread Beads, weaves impossibly tiny seed beads into striking, intricate jewelry! She incorporates her own original Southwest-style patterns into each design, for a one-of-a-kind work of wearable art. Live music will be performed by singer-guitarist Tom Gudding. The galley is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the winter at 416 Main St. information, call (719)345-4070.
