Fremont Search and Rescue to host annual Trivia Contest Fremont Search and Rescue will be hosting its sixth annual Trivia Contest Fundraiser on Oct. 15. The Trivia Contest Fundraiser will be at Harrison Middle School 920 Field Avenue, Cañon City, CO 81212. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the contest begins at 7 p.m. The event will be MC’d, again this year, by “Trivia Quiz Masters” Ed Nor-
den and Kathy Herrin. There will also be a silent auction and refreshment available. “This is our 50th year of operation. The first meeting of Fremont Search and Rescue happened on Oct. 9, 1966. Many folks may not know this, but since the beginning, we have not charged for our services and are self-funded. This
is our major fundraiser of the year and provides much of our operating funds. We have moved to a larger location at Harrison Middle School to accommodate more teams. I would like to extend a big shout out though to Mountain View Community Church for helping us get to this point, by hosting us in the past. We may have changed locations, but Ed
and Kathy are still with us and make it a lot of fun for everyone. This is our 6th year, and it’s a great family event.”, according to Pat Caulfield FSAR Commander. The Trivia Fundraiser pits teams of 3-6 people in the answering of multiple choice trivia questions. For more information, see Fremont Search and Rescue on Facebook.

AARP lists Cañon City as one of the top 5 cool places in America AARP lists Cañon City as one of the top 5 cool places in America to live well on less than $40,000 a year. Housing and health-care costs are on the rise and seniors didn’t get a Social Security cost-ofliving increase this year, which means that many retirees struggle to afford their lifestyle. But in some cities, it’s easier to live the life you want than in others, according to AARP The Magazine, which on Wednesday released its new list of cities where retirees can live well for under $40,000. The magazine worked with city research site Sperling’s Best Places to compile this list, looking at factors like cost of living, tax rate, unemployment rate, housing cost, crime rate, access to good doctors and hospitals, access to outdoor recreation, and access to educational and cultural institutions. On $40,000 a year, “you can live very comfortably in these places,” says Mary C. Hickey, the vice president and editor-in-chief of the AARP Media Content Team. The article states the great outdoors is the big draw in Cañon City, which borders the Arkansas River and has a myriad options for hiking, fishing and rock climbing, Hickey says.

New child care, preschool opens in Cañon City Santilli’s Child Care & Preschool is now open! The child care center is located at 505 Del Rey Ave. in Cañon City. The center is across the street from Harrison Park, which is a safe, quite neighborhood surrounded by a grape vineyard on one side and the park on the other. The center will take frequent trips to the park, but the center also has its own large playground and natural grass areas to accommodate the children served by the center. The center benefits from the advantage of being a family owned and operated business as it is owned by Denise Santilli, and staffed by family. The center will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Preschool is from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday in which the center will utilize the Creative Curriculum. Ms. Crystal’s kitchen will serve two snacks and lunch every day.The building itself has lots of space to accommodate the capacity of 45 children and a nice large dining area with plenty of little elbow room. A small climbing wall inside allows the child to use those developing muscles and burn off a little extra energy. There is a demand for affordable quality child care in this community, and Denise Santilli hopes to bring this service to Fremont County. Denise is a native to Cañon City and also has many ties to the community. Upon graduation from college, she was employed by West Central Mental Health Center for four years and then worked 15 years in child welfare for FCDHS, and then was co-owner of the Giving Tree Child Care and Preschool until establishing the Santilli’s Child Care and Preschool. Linda Davis, formerly of Park Avenue Child Care Center & Preschool, is the substitute director for the center. She is an expert in the area of child care and child development and is an invaluable asset to the center and the community overall. Tammy Moruzzi, registered nurse, will provide nursing consultation to the center. Tammy and Linda have both lived in the Cañon City area for many years, both women

are invested in the community and are excited to give back. Denise is excited about the facility as it has been completely remodeled with much attention paid to detail to accommodate the needs of the children. The atmosphere is that of a family run center, which will provide a sense of belonging, importance, nurturing guidance and fun to the children of the center. The cost for a full day (nine hours) is $22 a day and half-day care is $15. For more information call, (719) 275-4399.

“Changing Our Beliefs?”
In a campaign speech, one presidential candidate said, “Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural and religious beliefs have to be changed” (Hillary Clinton, Women’s World Summit, April 23, 2015). We should be willing to change our “deep seated religious beliefs” IF we realize they are not in harmony with God’s will as revealed in the Bible. However, if she had in mind opposition to issues like same-sex marriage and partial-birth abortion: many of us are not willing to change! The Bible teaches that in the beginning “God created man in His own image; male and female created He them (Genesis 1:27) and that He intended for marriage to be a permanent union between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24). The Bible teaches that life begins at conception (Psalms 139:13; Jeremiah 1:5; Luke 1:44), thus abortion denies a living soul created by God the right to life. Christians must not be intimidated by ungodly, corrupt political leaders who would impose their immoral views on the public. In the first century, multiplied thousands were put to death because they would not renounce their faith in Jesus Christ or bow down to an image of Caesar. Today in many places, those who speak out for Jesus or criticize Islam are in danger of losing their lives. The Bible says there is “a time to keep silence and a time to speak” (Ecclesiastes 3:7). For those of us who believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God: it is time to speak out - while we still have the opportunity! Offer is available for new applications submitted from September 11 – November 11, 2016. After the 6-month introductory period: the APR is variable and is based upon an index plus a margin. The APR will vary with Prime Rate (the index) as published in the Wall Street Journal. As of September 11, 2016, the variable rate for Home Equity Lines of Credit ranged from 2.62% APR to 7.20% APR. Higher rates may apply due to an increase in the Prime Rate, a credit limit below $100,000, an LTV above 70%, and/or a credit score less than 730. A U.S. Bank Consumer Silver, Gold, or Platinum Checking Package account is required to receive the lowest rate, but is not required for loan approval. The rate will not vary above 18% APR, or applicable state law, or below 2.12% APR – 2.55% APR, depending on market. Choosing an interest-only repayment may cause your monthly payment to increase, possibly substantially, once your credit line transitions into the repayment period. Repayment options may vary based on credit qualifications. Interest only repayment may be unavailable. Loans are subject to credit approval and program guidelines. Not all loan programs are available in all states for all loan amounts. Interest rates and program terms are subject to change without notice. Property insurance is required. U.S. Bank and its representatives do not provide tax or legal advice. Your tax and financial situation is unique. You should consult your tax and/ or legal advisor for advice and information concerning your particular situation. Other restrictions may apply. Mortgage and Home Equity products offered by U.S. Bank National Association. Deposit Products are offered through U.S. Bank National Association. Customer pays no closing costs, except escrow-related funding costs. An annual fee of up to $90 may apply after the first year and is waived with a U.S. Bank personal Platinum Checking Package. The Consumer Pricing Information brochure lists terms and conditions that apply to U.S. Bank Consumer Checking Package accounts and can be obtained by calling 800.872.2657.
