By Sarah Matott Cañon City Daily Record For the fifth year, the Cañon City Police Department will raise money to help bring Christmas cheer to children in need. ‘Shop With A Cop’ is a nationwide program, that helps local children to buy toys and presents for themselves and for their families. Clint Robertson, public information officer with CCPD, said the goal this year is to raise enough funds for seven children. Last year, the CCPD raised enough funds they were able to help 10 kids. “Last year, we were hugely successful,” Robertson said. Robertson said last year they raised more than $5,200, and every kid was given a gift card for about $300 each. Not only was the CCPD able of provide gifts cards for all 10 children, but they also were able to buy food to cook everyone breakfast on the day of ‘Shop With A Cop’ and were able to buy food for a Christmas dinner for the children and their families. The children are chosen by school, either they are kids that have been nominated by teachers or staff at their school, or they are a kid that a school

“When we take these kids shopping, we really work to focus taking them downtown,” Robertson said. He said their thought process is if local people and local business owners are donating money, then they should try and spend the money raised directly into the community. “We have to get our kids involved with downtown and taking them there to shop exposes them to all of the stores we have,” Robertson said. “The best part about this though is spending time with all of these kids. This is one of things we do that helps us build a good community relationship.” Robertson said, obviously, the more money they can raise then the more kids they can help. “The Inclusive Gospel”
“Inclusive” is defined as “not excluding any section of society or any party involved.” Jesus was inclusive: He said, “Come to me, all ye who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He commanded His apostles to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation” (Mark 16:15). Being “inclusive,” He invites all to come to Him, to obey the gospel and be saved. In the parable of the wedding feast the king said to his servants, “Go to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast” (Matthew 22:9). “Exclusive” is defined as “excluding or not admitting other things” and Jesus was also exclusive: He calls all men but He also said, “If you abide in My Word, then you are truly my disciples” (John 8:31). It would follow that those who will not abide in His Word cannot be His disciples. In the parable of the marriage feast, all were invited but not all came prepared: and these were “excluded.” Jesus said, “Many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:18). The gospel must be preached to all, and “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who disbelieves shall be condemned” (Mark 16:16). Jesus was inclusive and exclusive: He invites everyone but those who refuse to obey Him will be “excluded.” God does not wish that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). The gospel makes salvation available to all but only those who obey it will be included.
