Annual Blossom Festival takes community ‘Back to Our Roots’ By Carie Canterbury The Daily Record Blossoms are in abundance, signaling not only springtime has arrived, but also that the 79th annual Cañon City Music & Blossom Festival is just a few weeks away. Activities and events are lined up May 4-7 in a number of locations across Cañon City. “Held since 1938, the Cañon City Music & Blossom Festival is one of the premier community events in Colorado,” said Cassie Grow, president of the Music & Blossom Festival Committee. “Being situated along the Arkansas River, the soil in Cañon City has always been suitable to orchards, ranching and farming. From Fruit Days to Blossom festivals, the celebration is rooted deep in Cañon City’s history making this year’s theme of, ‘Back to Our Roots,’ fitting.” This year’s parade will begin at 1 p.m. May 6 along Main Street, from Third to 14th Street. The deadline to submit a parade application is Tuesday. Visit the Cañon City Music & Blossom Festival website at www.ccblossomfestival.com to print the parade entry forms and review the 2017 parade rules and regulations. In addition to the parade, Blossoms in the Park will feature 100 vendors from across Colorado and many neighboring states, as well as a full line-up of free entertainment on the Veterans Park stage May 6-7. Vendor registration is open until Thursday. For more information on how to become a vendor and be featured in Blossoms in the Park, visit the festival website at www.ccblossomfestival.com and click on the vendor
The Cañon City High School Marching Band performs during the 2013 Blossom Parade. link. “The Blossom festival has consistently been the longest running and best attended event in our city’s history because inside our community, the sun rises and sets on the accomplishments and achievements of each individual, each business and each club in our town, making our community very special,” Grow said. “The spirit of Blossom
has been kept alive for all these years because we love our community, we love to share the beauty of our community, and we love to share the pride we all have in this community.” She said Cañon City has never been shy about showing its unbridled exuberance for festivals. Each year, the community comes together to showcase their creativity and share with many

visitors how we shine, she said. “We get together, put our best foot forward and share everything we have,” Grow said. “Our town and our visitors have always loved the parade because it showcases the heart and soul of our community. Local residents come out in support of the festival lining Main Street, helping greet thousands of guests to Fremont County.”

Please Support Your Local Fire Fighters
High winds and low humidity is a perfect recipe for extreme wild fire conditions. “We deployed a truck (E13) and a four man crew to Dodge City, Kansas to support fire fighting operations on March 7...The earliest deployment ever for TVFP/TFPD.” - Fire Chief of TVFP Traditionally about this time we talk about the upcoming wildfire season being just around the corner, but in reality the 2017 wildfire season is already here. With the 2016 season fires in neighboring counties - Hayden Pass, Beulah, and the Junkins fire - and the local fires that have already occurred in our region coupled with historically dry conditions, the potential for an active wildfire season locally is ever present. TFPD volunteers plan and prepare for wildfire in addition to our other emergency services that include structure fires, first responder medical, and vehicle accident rescue year round. Now would be a good time to review your emergency response plan for you and your family. Do you have a plan? Here are a few links that provide information that may help you be better prepared.
