Welcome to our 2nd annual “83 South Simmental Bull Sale”. We are again pleased to partner with Downey Farms, Bar O, and Lonestar, to bring you an outstanding, diverse set of bulls. Regardless of your needs or preferences, there will be something in this sale to interest you. Again this year the sale will be held on line with DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction. If you are not familiar with this process, full instructions are found in this catalog. We look forward to visiting with you at either of our Open House events or at the farm. Our bulls were not creep fed as calves. After weaning they were carefully introduced to grain in their ration, and then fed a moderate energy ration formulated with a target gain of a little over three pounds per day, fine tuned to optimize growth as opposed to laying down fat. These two management decisions allow us to evaluate their true genetic potential, and will also promote their soundness and longevity as herd bulls. They are fully vaccinated as part of our comprehensive herd health program including their initial and booster Fusogard (foot rot) vaccination, and have been given a rumen magnet. They are tie broke and quiet. Pictures were taken in the early January and Videos done mid February.
Our top adj yearling wt. He is dark red, long bodied, with a great top and full deep rear quarter. He has tons of hair which is a bonus during Manitoba cold snaps. His EPDs are breed average across the board. Probably as good a bull as I have raised and he just happens to have a house cat disposition to add to the package. A solid, squarely built, good footed bull with style and eye appeal. We had the misfortune to lose his mother mid July so he got by on grass alone till fall. He however made up for lost time once on feed, posting our highest av daily gain. His EPDs are about breed av for calving and above av for performance and milk. His 6 yr old mother will sure be missed around here. She only ever had bull calves and every one of them has been a solid contender for the top of our bull pen. Good bulls come from great cows and this guy certainly qualifies.

An attractive, clean lined, correctly made bull with a strong wide top. His big blaze face should result in calves with the “money stripe” that defines them as carrying Simmental genetics. His conformation is no accident; rather it’s inherited from his mother and grandmother who have spent time as part of our summer show strings. His EPDs are above av for calving and about breed av for performance and milk.
HOMO POLLED BY PARENTAGE.
An unregistered purebred. He is about as deep bodied as you will find, yet still smoothly made. That depth is inherited from his sire who walked the pasture at WLB Livestock for a number of years, and from his maternal grandsire who also was built the same way. Thus, 219K should pass it on to his offspring. When you add in his dark mahogany red coat, and his blaze face, there is plenty to like when you evaluate him. EPDs are about breed av across the board. HETERO POLLED.

This guy was bred to be a calving ease bull. His moderate frame, 83 lb birth wt along with a calving ease EPD near the top of the breed are evidence of that. His sire, High Stakes, has been our go to AI sire on heifers for a few years now. 222K has developed an expressive muscle pattern indicating he has more upside to him then just calving ease. Our 2nd highest adj weaning wt, who suffered a bit of an injury, probably playing with his pen mates, early in the winter which set him back a bit. Now fully recovered, he’s back on track. He is moderate framed, has a good top, deep rear quarter and a thick hair coat. His sire was the 2021 high seller at the prestigious Wheatland bull sale and there will be limited sons available this spring and only a few of those will be black.

Welcome to the 2nd 83 South Simmental Bull Sale! A summer with lots of moisture and good crops made the transition into feeding cattle everyday this winter a lot easier and on top of that, the beautiful weather we’ve had in January for calving season. We are very excited to be consigned with this great group of breeders again! This year we have on offer 12 bulls - 7 Blacks and 5 Reds with a good variety from calving ease heifer pen prospects to performance beef bulls! Our bulls are developed for performance and longevity. They have a balanced diet of prairie hay, protein pellets and a little corn silage. These bulls come fully vaccinated and guaranteed. As calves, the bulls received Inforce 3 and Baycox and before going to pasture they get Pyramid fp5 Presponse, Fermicon and Maxigaurd. Bulls will also receive both shots of Fusgaurd before leaving the farm.

Lonestar RIP 25k is the RIP of our bullpen, He's got the herd bull look to him and has been an awesome bull to develop. RIP’s sire Spring creek Olympian has put his stamp in the simmental industry and we have a good feeling RIP is doing to do the same. With tons of middle big sound footed and great testicular development. He's got a smaller skull frame with his bw we feel he will calve great on cows. These two awesome half-brothers are the first to be offered off our exclusive MRL Legend 20H. Not only do they both have the head and presence of their father, but they will sire the same uniformity. Legend left us with a very consistent and powerful calf crop. We didn’t receive the number of sons one would have liked for a first year, but needless to say, we have one of our best heifer pens! These two are peas in a pod. Smooth, long, thick and stylish. Downey 2208K is mothered by one of the most fertile cows we have. Twin. When we saw MRL Untouchable 89G the spring he sold we felt he was one of the best bulls we had ever seen. At New Year’s Resolution 2021, a few straws were offered, and we were fortunate to purchase some. Only our best were bred to him. Our top two were flushed, and then we bred 7. This guy’s mom was the #3 cow in that ranking. His cow family is extremely consistent in type, and quite fertile. The grandmother of 2202K is the mother to 2236K. This is one of the best all-around bulls we’ve had. I like the extra dimension he possesses, while having an ideal frame. He is a little larger than most, but one that will not get too big down the road. The cow family behind him goes back to one of the commercial cow families’ mom and dad bred up. We’ve always known them as the “645” cows. Good cows that always bring in most of the better calves. When you look at the top sides of this guy, I see a lot of each bull in him. He has the shape of the “Connected”, the extra length of the “Doomsday’s” and the power and bone of the “Downey 225Z”. If raising heavy steer’s and fantastic replacements is your goal, here’s the guy that’s gonna do it. SCURRED
