The site is located very close to the Bannerghatta national park which makes it an ideal place for Veterinary College but at the cost of being quite a distance away from popular transit modes. PROJECT TYPE

C O N C E P T
BREIF / VISION : To lead, enable and inspire others to attain healthier world for animals and people, to solve pressing issues in veterinary, human, public and planetary health, while expanding our fundamental understanding of science.
The first thing which to came mind while visiting the site was the locale of the place (located very near to the national park and seemingly vegetation rich area almost felt like a forest in the middle of a city). The existing features such as the hillock, a small depression and the grove of trees to the west of the site started to inspire most of the planning in terms of sections.The main idea was sort of trying reproduce the combination of elements (hillock, depression and grove) in an architectural vocabulary within the site limits.

There are many things to a campus planning but it is not without the most important the “The vision” of the campus which was determined to be “reproduce nature with elements of architecture”. There’s a reason why many people prefer silence and serenity while studying or learning and that’s exactly what nature reeks of. We can’t go to forest to study so bring the qualities of nature and forest to the place of study.

While the ground floor was reserved for animals, foot traffic was elevated all around the site to always look at the ranch,which was supported by pylons which also served as path markers / waypoints.
ACADEMIC BLOCK
Scrapped concept 01 - this particular concept was proposing concetrated super blocks in the middle of the site with very less foot print on site while focusing on shifting function on the above floors to accomadate the ground floor entirely for Ranch area for the animals, where students can study the animals. The blocks had massive cantilevers supported by pillars which also act markers for entry.

ACADEMIC BLOCK
S CR APPED CONCEPTS
This concept was rejected as seperating animals and humans on different levels meant the students didnt connect with the animals which they require in the Field Scrapped concept 02 - this concept builds upon the previous one in certains areas but fails to capture the true essense of the human and animal connection which needs to be inculcated in the minds of the student. Here the super blocks are connected together to form "The Highway plaza" on different levels to encourage student and faculty interaction while viewing animals in the ranch area.
Hence this concept was also rejected in favor of a more intermixed concept of connection between humans and animals of the ranch area.
HOSPITAL WING
This concept also fails in achiving the desired connection between future veterinary doctors and animals as both of them are seperated on different levels with only sense of connection being the eyesight.
Chosen Concept - in this concept the building is modelled after a grove trees which are present in the site which shows the interconnection between nature, animals and humans various different level and along the ground plane. It also features a select part of the scrapped concept which are integrated in this design. An outdoor exhibition space is also modelled after the existence of the grove of trees on site, multiple posts with branching beams feature space for display. The exhibition space itself also acts as an exhibit itself and providing an anchor point in the open space between the academic function

The Roof plan of the campus represents the placement of each block with respect to the others and how each of the blocks are inter-connected on multiple levels and visual connection between spaces. The academic block and hospital wing are connected by north-south axis corridor while the academic and hostel by east-west landscaped corridor which also serves as a multiple purpose space which can be utilised according to the campus's needs at the time. The ranch area is located at the northern most space of the site inorder to minimize the animals being affected by the noise generated by vehicles and the others block itself. ID E

The site selection was left to our discretion. Inorder to not complicate the process of selecting a site, i went ahead with the idea of no context or placed in an infinite plane of grassy meadows with trees.

BREIF : Design a Residence for four college students only from nine cubes of 3 x 3 x 3 metre each. Cutting, slicing, breaking and distorting cubes are allowed. This school project was mainly focused on the conceptual part as this project was leading up to a major social housing in the second part of the semester and hence this was given as an easing into the housing design semester. Hence the concept was the major focus on this project and paired with a fictional context which was left to us to choose it was particularly hard to grasph a concept to excecute, finally the idea of an inward facing house with a courtyard was choosen as i decided to ditch the context and make the house a design on itself which exists nowhere and can exist everywhere, as the house was always inward facing/looking.

Brief required the house to be built for four college students. The idea of privacy of each of the four residents should be taken into account all the while having a common space for them to gather. Simple grid planning, simple volume, design detailling and the idea of secondary living hall within the four person bedroom has provided a efficient housing for four college students all the while maintain each one of thier privacy in the house.

The images to the right are process sketches trying to emulate the sense of part and whole with respect to the whole building this space was destined to be the bedroom for the four residents and also the secondary living hall within the bedroom for themselves alone which was fitted with sunken seating area at the centre of the bedroom space and the study area (mezzazine floor) within the bedroom. This space also had large windows facing the northern side to flood the interiors with light throughout the day for all activities.

Design Detailling - with privacy a main thing, i went about designing a all encompassing bed with a sleeping space,storage compartment, dressers and desk for Computers which was inverted for the next person haveing the bed on the ground plane and having a dedicated study space at a mezzanine floor in the same space ( bed room )

The interior was a fight between the arrangement of beds, sunken living and the mezzazine floor and finally reached a satisfactory arrangement in which the sunken living is the center of the bedroom while there are sleeping spots on the either corners of the space and then then mezzazine is situated towards the western side with a taller ceiling to accentuate its presense in the bedroom of 4.
The exterior was a fight between different materials and i finally settled with the wood for the flooring and stone for the bedroom space and to further accentuate the mezzazine present in the bedroom space it was extruded a bit heigher than the sloping roof which was also made out of wood. the placement of windows also become a key point as they provide sunlight.

This section cuttinf through the bedroom space for four shows the different activities which can take place and also how they are arranged with respect to the sleeping spots and how each person's privacy is kept intact while having a communal space to gather and enjoy with the rest of the inhabitants. The mezzazine serves as study space for habitants which is raised from the sunken living to provide some sort of seperation and serenity for the people in the study space.

Materials choosen for the project were wooden flooring and wooden walls with the bedroom being stone to announce its presense and also to bring in contrast to the wooden walls. The courtyard brings in a sense of cohesion between the wood and stone. The louvres (wood) in the entrance gives a glimpse of the courtyard before entering the house, which also serves as opening for the wind to swirl in

BREIF : A culinary institute with production kitchen, Fine dining restaurant and cafes in the heart of an office neighbourhood to serve as a recreational area. The site being in the heart of an office district which is devoid of proper eatries,the proper direction was to spread out the restaurant, cafes and bakeries along the ground floor while carefully jiggling between built and unbuilt spaces to achieve a cohesion between serviving spaces and servant spaces. The intermediate floor between the ground floor (public) and upper floor (culinary institute) is reserved for seating spaces, public exhibitions, food expos, community kitchen, production kitchen, gallery spaces and rentable spaces for different kinds of public activites.

The upper floors are reserved for the culinary institute which is a private entity teaching students the art of cooking, this space (rectangular volume) has been carved in to create large scale opening, small windows and terrace spaces to connect with its surrounding all the while having a central service core which runs through the intermediate floor to the ground floor along with a passenger and service lift to service the institute above.

This Diagram presents the programmatic division of the project while detailing what each block placed in the volume represents when built. Each color corresponds to a certain set of activities and some represent outdoor/ landscape areas as volumes and enclosed spaces.

Sketches are iterative sketches to find the ideal form for the functions it is going to house. It also shows the experimentation with the axes and how they influence movement of people into the site from the context and how strategic placement of cafes can increase flow of people into the site
Mullion - louvres (Horizontal)
Wall section detailing how the edge of the building is built with respect to its context. The kitchens are lined with double layer of louvres to spread the smell into the context to make it lively, while keeping the privacy of the people in the kitchen intact and stopping all the unwanted things from escaping such as smoke and other things. The metal truss present inbetween the open intermediate floor and the upper institute floors is being held by massiv columns which in turn takes in the load of the upper floors through the truss and transfer it to the ground while also acting as aesthic elements in the facade.

BREIF / VISION : Design the interiors of an architects office whose office consists of an principal architect and 3 architects, working space, meeting space, storage spaces included and consisted of an built in toilet which needed furnishing Main concept while designing the interiors of this office was to make maximum use of the natural lighting through the windows and sky light's presense. Attic space was made in accordance with the need for a storage space which was not accessed frequently but was used to store old project files, models, protypes and more work which was produced by the studio

The rest of the spaces was a jig saw puzzle on where each zone can be placed with accordance to the natural light while maximizing person to person interaction .emphasis was put on design a cetral wall which wrapped around the entire office providing a visual interest at all times which can be modified by the use of accent lighting as well to not make it the same wall everyday.

CASE STUDIES I wanted to improve my researching, 3D modelling, representation (graphics and renders) skills, hence i decided to reporduce and represent works of great architects of the past while learning thier philosphy of designing buildings. I used my learning from this Case study while designing my "CULINARY INSITITUE" and used the five points of architecture to enhance the qualities of space of said project.
LE VILLA SAVOYE, the legendary building built by Le Corbusier was undertaken as a general case study and improve my skill at visual representation. The image provided above was modelled in Sketchup, rendered in Vray and composited using Photoshop to make it look like a physical model. The five points of Architecture has been further studied by breaking the 3D Model into respective points. I have developed my school project Culinary Institute using my understanding of the 5 points of architecture which was told by Le Corbusier.

What happens when Oscar Niemeyer designs using straight lines, the architect who eradicated straight lines decided to design using straight lines, this project was definitely interesting to study in terms of design philosophy. The images present in the page have been rendered using Vray trying to emulate the qualities of physical model in the realm of 3D model. While Rendering this Particular model i learnt different possibilites in which a 3D model can be rendered to specifically suit the different needs.

3-DIMENSIONAL MODELLING 3D Modelling is a defining change of the century in the field of architecture as it allows us to quickly iterate and develop our designs and allows for clients to experience the space before its actually built. 3D modelling also allows us to quickly make virtual objects which might not be present in real life and hence allow us to create a fantastical fictional world to express our creativity, it also serves as a tool to represent our ideas which cant be put into words or be explained.
In order to develop my 3D Modelling skills, i choose to reproduce my college gate using sketchup. It was particularly tricky to measure draw the gate house as it was constantly in use, starting off the model was the biggest hurdle but as i learnt a few tricks, it sped up the process 10 fold.

I also wanted to practise 3D Modelling using Rhino and i choose to reproduce Buland Darwaza, which proved to be different beast altogether as the geometry of the historic building was very different from its contemporary counter part.

The models are made for visualisations which further drive the desiging of certain things which cannot be done when things hit the production floor. Physical models feel more like toys to me and the tangible feel of it can't be ever replaced and the idea of them always excite me as we are using all 5 senses ( well except taste ofcourse) which isnt present in the 3D modelling which is enabled by technology.

St.peters basillica was a fun project to understake at that time ( SEM 2) as studying history was boardening our minds on the architecture of the past. This was particularly a hard project to undertake cause of the complex geometry of Historic Building, and specifically the dome. I learnt a couple of techniques to make the modelling process swiftly as i had to finish this side project to focus on school projects, since then i have used them to model faster and efficiently.
The geometry of the model and how detailed they are which gives us a sense of thier characteristic traits.
This particular project was undertaken in (SEM 3 ), and was excuted with the idea of furthering my physical modelling skills and also apply the previous learnings.

The Shikara was probably the hardest part of the whole model as there was a lot of discussions on how to achieve the shape while also adding detail to the model, we ended up choosing to do it in stylistic way of using fins (planar materials in an additive way) we repeated the same technique to achieve a sense of consistency.

SKETCHING
SKETCHING Sketching a tradition medium of expression which is the go to for any architect at this time of the world, although technology is competing to dethrone it, but which i belive will never happen but what i belive is that sketching and technology should be used in tandem to utilise the full potential of both mediums. Sketching has a very tangible feeling which makes us belive that whatever we draw is a reality and that pencil becomes the bridge between fiction and non-fiction. At the heart of sketching is the idea/ story which the it is trying to convey to the audience, where it is aided by colors as an auxillary to support the story behind the pencil lines and that is exactly what i try to achieve in all my sketches the feeling of being tangible and real.

PHOTOGRAPHY Photography is known to us all as the art of taking / clicking pictures in order to make a memory Immortalized in the digital world which we live in, and the photographs we take are with a singular purpose of sharing the same moment with people who werent there to witness the memory being made. Photos are in a way abstract artworks, and the reason is no single person sees a piece of artwork the same as the other person and particularly photographs but what we can do to aid the audience in understanding idea behind the photos is using various compostion techniques which will enchance the existing scene and guide the audience's eyes to the subjectof the photographs. Photography skills are in high demand in this digital world of ours as information spreads like wildfire and people want to showcase thier work in the light they intend to and i aspire to do just that both in the field of Architecture and others.

DIGITAL ARTWORKS
PHOTO MANIPULATIONS The digital world allows things to be far more efficient than the traditional media and hence softwares such as photoshop is used to create artwork both on a hobbyist level and a professional level. This enabled to me to quickly create or express my creativity by stimulating the right brain. These kind of artworks also does'nt adhere to the physical rules of the world and hence tend to be more on the fantastical side of things or unrealistic. Unrealistic things have an intrinsic quality of it being modelled after few realistic things and vice-versa. Develop this new hobby during the lockdown which kept my creative juices flowing while college took care of the logical side of the brain.
