SIGN PG NO SEAT NO - 13068 TOPICSITE STUDY SITE LOCATION-LAL DARWAJA STATION RD, SURYAPUR GATE, VARACHHA, SURAT, GUJARAT 395003 - THE SITE IS LOCATED IN THE HEART OF SURAT CITY IN GUJARAT, SURAT RAILWAY STATION IS ON THE MUMBAI-VADODARA-AHMEDABAD RAILWAY LINE. THE ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL OF THE STATION IS WITH THE WESTERN RAILWAY ZONE OF THE INDIAN RAILWAYS. -SURAT RAILWAY STATION IS LOCATED IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE CITY, AND IS ALSO, CONNECTED TO THE CENTRAL RAILWAYS THROUGH THE TAPI LINE AND UDHNA JUNCTION. THE STATION IS ALONG THE MAIN MUMBAI AHMEDABAD LANE AND RECEIVES A LOT OF TRAFFIC FROM PASSENGER TRAINS, LOCAL TRAINS, AND EXPRESS TRAINS. MANY GOODS TRAINS PASS THROUGH SURAT STATION AS THIS JUNCTION SERVES AS A GOOD TRANSPORT CORRIDOR ALONG WESTERN INDIA. GENERAL INFORMATION –SURAT RAILWAY STATION IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST STATIONS ON THE WESTERN RAILWAY LINE. THE EXISTING RAILWAY STATION BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 1860 AND AFTER THAT, NO MAJOR CHANGES HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE MAIN STATION BUILDING. THE MAIN STATION BUILDING IS LOCATED ON THE WEST SIDE WHILE THE SECOND ENTRY IS FROM THE EAST SIDE. AT PRESENT, THERE IS A TOTAL OF PLATFORMS THREE FOBS, AND ONE SUB-WAY FOR THE STATION BUILDING. APART FROM THE MAIN STATION BUILDING THE RAILWAY STATION VICINITY HAS A YARD AREA AND STAFF QUARTERS ON THE EAST SIDE WITH EXISTING PASSENGER AND TRAIN TRAFFIC SURAT RAILWAY STATION FALLS UNDER THE A+ CATEGORY. CLIMATE SURAT FALLS IN A HOT AND DRY CLIMATIC ZONE. IN SURAT, THE WET SEASON IS OPPRESSIVE, WINDY, AND MOSTLY CLOUDY; THE DRY SEASON IS HUMID AND MOSTLY CLEAR, AND IT IS HOT YEAR-ROUND. OVER THE YEAR, THE TEMPERATURE TYPICALLY VARIES FROM 62°F TO 99°F AND IS RARELY BELOW 58°F OR ABOVE 103°F AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AND PRECIPITATIONPRECIPITATION IS NEARLY 150 MM, STARTS FROM MAY AND ENDS NEARLY DURING NOVEMBER BEGINNINGS, IT IS HIGHEST IN JUNE, JULY, AND AUGUST, CITY REMAINS HOT FOR THE WHOLE YEAR WITH TEMPERATURE RANGING FROM 29 DEGREES TO 38 DEGREES AND HIGHEST IN MARCH, APRIL, AND MAY WIND FLOW THE WIND THAT SURAT GETS IS MAJORLY FROM THE NORTHEASTERN HIMALAYAN WINDS) AND SOUTH-WESTERN SIDE( MONSOON WINDS WIND IS MAXIMUM DURING MAY JUNE AND JULY PERIOD SUBSURFACE FEATURES1.THE BASALTIC LAVA FLOWS ARE COVERED BY BLACK CLAYEY TO LOAMY SOIL. IT IN GENERAL RANGES IN THICKNESS UP TO ONE METER. 2. THE COLOR OF THE SOIL TURNS BROWN DUE TO THE HIGH IRON CONTENT AT 3. THE TEXTURE IS SILT CLAY LOAM TO CLAY LOAMS. 4.THE CLAY CONTENT VARIES FROM 30 TO 60%. THE WATER HOLDING CAPACITY OF THE SOIL IS MODERATE. 5. THE SOIL TYPE HERE IS BLACK COTTON SOIL, THE TERRANE IS ALMOST FLAT 6. THE BLACK COTTON SOIL/EXPANSIVE CLAY 50% SATURATED) IN A DRY STATE HAS A BEARING CAPACITY BETWEEN 130 TO 160 KN/M2. 7. THE SOIL TYPE IS APPROPRIATE FOR SHALLOW, DEEP, AND PILE FOUNDATION CONNECTIVITY ROAD CONNECTIVITY NORTH APPROACH SURAT-KAMREJ HIGHWAY (VARACHHA RUB & LALDARWAJA ROAD) FOLLOWED BY KHAND BAZAR, LAL DARWAJA COMMERCIAL AREA SOUTH APPROACH LAMBE HANUMAN ROAD, RAILWAY YARD, GSRTC BUS DEPOT EAST -APPROACH ROAD (TOWARDS LAMBE HANUMAN ROAD), SURAT RAILWAY PARKING AREA, RAILWAY COLONY, SMC PARKING AREA, LAMBE HANUMAN TEMPLE, AND RESIDENTIAL AREA WEST APPROACH ROAD FROM UNAPANI (RING) ROAD, CITY BUS STOP, COMMERCIAL AREA GSRTC BUS STAND THE EXISTING RAILWAY STATION IS BOUNDED BY UNAPANI ROAD ON THE WESTERN SIDE, VARACHHA ROAD ON THE NORTHERN SIDE, AND LAMBE HANUMAN ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE. THE APPROACH TO THE EASTERN SIDE OF THE STATION BUILDING IS THROUGH THE RAILWAY STATION ROAD WHICH LEADS FROM LAMBE HANUMAN ROAD ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE. THIS ROAD TERMINATES IN FRONT OF THE PRESENT BOOKING OFFICE AND THE VEHICLES HAVE TO TURN BACK TO EXIT ON THE SAME ROAD I.E. THERE IS NO PROPER CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN LAMBE HANUMAN ROAD AND VARACHHA ROAD AS AN APPROACH TO THE STATION BUILDING THEREBY THE PASSENGERS HAVE TO NECESSARILY COME TO THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE STATION BUILDING SWOT ANALYSIS A. STRENGTHS 1. BEING THE SECOND MOST EARNING RAILWAY STATION ON THE WESTERN RAILWAY AND A STRATEGIC LOCATION, SURAT RAILWAY STATION IS HIGHLY PROLIFIC. THE STATION IS LOCATEDIN THE CORE AREA OF THE CITY SURROUNDED BY COMMERCIAL, RESIDENTIAL, AND INDUSTRIAL PARTS OF THE CITY. 2. GOOD WIDE ROADS ALL AROUND THE SITE 3. THE SITE POSSESSES THE GOOD POTENTIAL FOR COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT SINCE LOTS OF DEVELOPMENT IS COMING UP IN THE VICINITY. 4. THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE LAND IS FLAT B. WEAKNESS 1. THE SITE HAS A HIGHWAY PASSING THROUGH AND A GOOD NUMBER OF BUSY ROADS CREATING THE POSSIBILITY OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND SOUND, AIR POLLUTION 2. THE STATION MIGHT BE REQUIRED TO FACE WEST SINCE ACCESS IS FROM THE WEST SIDE ROAD 3. NO SUCH GOOD VIEWS FROM THE SITE. C. OPPORTUNITIES 1. THE CONNECTIVITY AND THE LOCATION ADVANTAGE PROVIDE SCOPE FOR THE DEVELOPMENTOF ANY SIZABLE COMMERCIAL PROJECT INCLUDING VARIED PRODUCT MIX. 2. CREATION OF GOOD LIVEABLE PUBLIC SPACE ON THE SITE 3. CREATION OF URBAN LEVEL CONNECTIVITY,I.E CONNECTING EAST AND WEST SIDES OF THE STATION D. THREATS 1.DISTURBANCE IN CIRCULATION PATTERN MIGHT HINDER THE PROJECT

SHADING SHADING BEEN AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT FOR THIS CLIMATE ,THE STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED IN SELF SHADING ENEVELOPE SYSTEM THE HIGH RISE TOWER IS BEEN DESIGNED IN THE SHAPE. WHICH IF INCIDENT ONTO THE SUN, CAST DIRECT SHADOW ONTO THE BUILDINGS ITSELF THE CORE AND THE OFFICE SPACES ARE ENEVELOPED WITH GREEN TERRACES ON ALL SIDES WHICH CATERS FOR INDIRECT SUNLIGHT TOO AND PROVIDES SHADES FOR THE OFFICE SPACES INSIDE. 3.THESE PASSIVE DESIGN ELEMENTS ALSO REDUCE ONTO THE LOAD OF THE BUILDING BY INCREASING THE THERMAL MASS. REFLECTIONS USE OF LIGHT COLOUR REFLECTS LIGHT ,REDUCES HEAT AND IT ALSO PREVENTS VISUALLY UNAPPLEAING SETTLING OF DUST ON THE FACDE INSULATION 1.THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE ISBT BUIDING WAS A MAJOR HEAT GAINING SIDE.PROVISION OF MAJOR SERVICES TO PLANNED HERE THE FIXED WINDOWS ON ON THE FACADE HAD DOUBLE GALZING WINDOW SETUP WITH ARGON GAS FILLED IN BETWEEN. WHICH IMPROVES THERMAL RESISTIVITY ALSO AN OPTION TO BUILDING BEEN CLOSE TO RAILWAY STATION USE OF THESE GLASSES INTO INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR AS WELL ALSO HELP REDUCING NOISE POLLUTION. VENTILATION THE COMMERCIAL BUILDING,RAILWAYS AND ISBT WILL BE CENTRALLY VENTILATED.MEASURE TO REDUCE THE LOAD ON HAVC ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
