Cuando fui invitado a pasar un día en la Isla de San Idelfonso de Culebra para ver sus espectaculares playas y arrecifes no lo pensé dos veces en aceptar y preparar mi bulto y mi cámara. Llegué a Puerto del Rey en Fajardo y me explicaron el itinerario para el día. Nos montamos en el catamarán, llamado el espíritu del Caribe, y salimos de Isla Grande hacia el arrecife en la playa Tamarindo. Nos tardamos aproximadamente 45 minutos en llegar al mismo. Una vez allí, nos explicaron las instrucciones de seguridad. Yo estaba muy ansioso por apreciar la maravilla que fuimos a ver. Preparé mis dos cámaras, una para grabar la experiencia en video y la otra para fotos. Una vez entramos al agua, pude ver corales y peces de muchas variedades. Pero sin duda el mejor momento fue cuando pude ver un carey, ya que soy amante de estos animales. También tuvimos la suerte de poder ver manta rayas. Luego de eso, nos dirigimos a Playa Flamenco, la tercera mejor playa a nivel mundial. Disfruté mucho mi día en este paraíso y compartí con turistas en el área que estaban maravillados con la belleza del lugar. Esta excursión fue realizada gracias a East Island. When I was invited to spend the day on San Ildefonso Island at Culebra to see its spectacular beaches and reefs, I did not think twice about accepting and preparing my bag and my camera. I arrived at Puerto del Rey in Fajardo and they explained to me the itinerary for the day. We got on the catamaran, called the Spirit of the Caribbean, and left Isla Grande toward the reef at Tamarindo Beach. It took us about 45 minutes to get to there. Once we arrived, they explained the safety instructions to us. I was very eager to see the wonder we went to see. I prepared my two cameras, one to videotape the experience and the other for photos. Once we entered the water, I was able to see many varieties of coral and fish. But without a doubt, the best moment was when I was able to see a hawksbill se turtle, since I love those animals. We were also lucky to see stingrays. After that, we headed to Flamenco Beach, the third best beach in the world. I enjoyed my day in this Paradise very much and I spent time with the tourists in the area who were in awe of the beauty. This tour was conducted thanks to East Island. Una actividad que, definitivamente, debemos realizar en algún momento es bucear. En Puerto Rico tenemos un centro de buceo cinco estrellas representante de la Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Este lugar se conoce como Scuba Dogs y lleva más de diez años ofreciendo servicios de buceo en la isla Puerto Rico. Scuba Dogs ofrece tours de buceo, snorkeling, renta y venta de equipo, excursiones e instrucción de buceo. Para realizar la actividad de bucear es necesario poseer una licencia pero si no la posees, Scuba Dogs tiene un programa de buceo para principiantes donde personas no certificadas pueden bucear y descubrir lo maravilloso del mundo marino. An activity that we should definitely do at some point is diving. In Puerto Rico we have a five star dive center representative of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). This place is known as Scuba Dogs and for over ten years it has been offering diving services on the island Puerto Rico. Scuba Dogs offers scuba diving tours, snorkeling, equipment rental and sales, trips, and diving instruction. Diving requires a license, but if you do not have one, Scuba Dogs has a diving for beginners program where non-certified persons can dive and discover the marvels of the marine world. Scuba Dogs also organizes the Island's International Coastal Cleanup, where over 300 bodies of water in Puerto Rico are affected. All of its operations are carried out at the Escambr贸n Marine Park. The Energy of Kiteboarding in the South By Lourdes M. Rivera
The Guayama KiteBoarding School and the Innocence Driven by a Comet Foundation held the first radical sports initiative event at the Punta Pozuelo beach in Guayama. This great initiative, promoted by Kelvin Hernández-Cintrón, his staff, collaborators, sponsors, and volunteers, allowed the collection of sports equipment in exchange for registration in this sporting event. This massive, extreme event was born thanks to the desire to provide a spark of sports hope to our youth, and to have an impact on the children and youth of the Pozuelo sector in Guayama. EXPLORAR a Mar Chiquita Por Paola Laracuente-Román
No hay duda de que una de las mejores ventajas de vivir en Puerto Rico es que todos los días es verano. Contamos con una gran variedad de playas paradisiacas listas para ser disfrutadas por todos esos aventureros admiradores de la belleza caribeña. Con la intención de conocer los encantos de nuestra isla nos dirigimos hacia el pueblo de Manatí. Este m u n i c i p i o p o s e e va r i a s p l a ya s hermosas y una de ellas es conocida como “Mar Chiquita”. Su nombre surge a partir de una leyenda que cuenta como una mujer borincana se paseaba por la orilla de una gran roca de piedra caliza, un día resbala y cae al

mar. De repente, a punto de perder la esperanza de salvarse, ocurre un temblor y la piedra se rompe a la mitad. La corriente que pasa por medio de estas dos piedras arrastra a la mujer a la orilla, y sobrevive por lo que llama a la playa “Mar Chiquita”. Luego de un largo viaje, ansiosos por ver la hermosura que ofrece esta playa, llegamos por fin a nuestro destino. Era el significado perfecto de una tarde de verano: sol ardiente, brisa fresca, una manta sobre la arena, bebidas refrescantes, piscolabis y muchas ganas de divertirnos en el paraíso que ahora contemplábamos de aguas cristalinas. La playa es ideal para hacer
“snorkeling”, ya que tiene áreas bastantes profundas en las que se pueden apreciar distintos peces. Una vez culminado nuestro pasadía en Mar Chiquita, me sentí una vez más agradecida por esta aventura en Puerto Rico donde cada día soy sorprendida con las bellezas y tesoros que guarda esta isla. Recordemos siempre proteger, respetar y conservar los regalos que nos provee la madre naturaleza para poder seguir deleitándonos en los encantos de nuestra patria.
Exploring Mar Chiquita By Paola Laracuente-Román There is no doubt that one of the best advantages of living in Puerto Rico is that every day is summer. We have a large variety of heavenly beaches ready to be enjoyed by all those adventurous admirers of Caribbean beauty. To nd out the highlights of our island, we headed to the town of Manatí. This municipality has several beautiful beaches and one of them is known as "Mar Chiquita" or “Little Sea.” Its name comes from a legend that tells how a Puerto Rican woman was walking one day along the edge of a large limestone rock; she slipped and fell into the sea. Suddenly, about to lose all hope of being saved, an earthquake occurred and the stone broke in half. The current passing between these two stones dragged the woman to the shore, and she survived, which is why the beach is called “Mar Chiquita" or “Little Sea.” After a long journey, eager to see the beauty that this beach offers, we nally reached our destination. It was the perfect summer afternoon: hot sun, cool breeze, a blanket on the sand, soft drinks, snacks, and an eagerness to have fun in the paradise of pristine waters we were now contemplating. The beach is ideal for snorkeling, as it has areas that are quite deep where one can appreciate different sh. Once our daytrip at Mar Chiquita ended, I was once again grateful for this adventure in Puerto Rico where every day I am amazed at the beauty and treasures this island offers. Let us always remember to protect, respect, and preserve the gifts that Mother Nature provides us so that we can continue enjoying our Island's delights.

La experiencia comienza desde la villa pesquera en el Paseo La Princesa, donde te lanzas en la aventura de realizar el recorrido en “paddle board”. Ya sea en la mañana o en la tarde disfrutas de diversas vistas de la ciudad amurallada. Este recorrido además es interesante, hermoso y saludable. Contrario a lo que piensan algunas personas, mantener el equilibrio en la tabla no es difícil. Este deporte ha tomado mucho auge y ha comenzado a practicarse en diferentes cuerpos de agua de nuestra isla. Mientras te encuentras en la tabla experimentas tranquilidad y disfrutas de todo lo que te rodea desde una perspectiva diferente. En el recorrido muchos turistas, que se encontraban en tierra, disfrutaban de mirarnos, especialmente a aquellos que se atrevían a realizar maniobras en la tabla. Imagine learning a bit of history in a different and fun way! One of Puerto Rico's commemorative tourism sites is El Morro in Old San Juan. Now you can see this historic fort from the sea. The experience begins at the shing village on Paseo La Princesa, where you jump into the adventure of paddle boarding. Whether in the morning or in the afternoon, you enjoy diverse views of the walled city. This tour, in addition to being interesting, is beautiful and healthy. Contrary to what some people think, balancing on the board is not difcult. This sport has been booming lately and it has begun to be practiced on the Island's different bodies of water. While standing on the board you experience serenity and you enjoy everything around you from a different perspective. During the run, many tourists, who were on land, enjoyed watching us, especially those who dared to do maneuvers on the board. Otra increíble aventura. Un poco diferente pero absolutamente divertida. Esta aventura fue en el maravilloso pueblo de Utuado donde la pasamos súper bien. Empezamos el día temprano usando ropa apropiada y agua entre otras cosas. Desayunamos en una panadería de pueblo de lo más bonita donde nos encontramos con un hombre mayor que nos empezó a contar de su finca. Después de allí, fuimos a en busca de aventuras con el gran Batey Ziplines Adventures. Nos recibieron en una pequeña casa de lo más bonita en donde nos hablaron de la seguridad y entrega de equipos. Luego a caminar hacia el monte. El primer lugar que visitamos fue una cueva que era un poco pequeña pero tenía un frío bastante refrescante después de todo lo que tuvimos que caminar. Luego fuimos a una cabaña donde nos recibieron con frutas frescas y nos pusieron los equipos para realizar los
ziplines. Hicimos ocho diferentes, y nuestros guías nos enseñaron trucos para hacer la experiencia más divertida. Las vistas eran increíbles y lo maravilloso era que no terminaba allí. Mi primera experiencia de descenso en soga “rapeling” vino después y estuvo increíble. Luego fuimos al río de Tanamá donde nos refrescamos con un baño de agua bien fría. También pasamos un puente colgante que me encantó y más que muy bonito y debajo de él había una bandera de Puerto Rico. Para finalizar salimos del río y una guagua nos fue a buscar y eso sí que fue un paseo extremo. Al llegar, compartimos con todos y nos fuimos a comer. Verdaderamente estar en Utuado, en el río Tanamá es una de las experiencias más interesantes y entretenidas que tiene Puerto Rico y debes conocer. Let’s climb
Tanamá is at Batey By Kelly M. Santaella Another amazing adventure. A little different, but a lot of fun. This adventure was in the wonderful town of Utuado where we had a great time. We started the day early by wearing appropriate clothing and water, among other things. We had breakfast at a very pretty bakery in town where we met an elderly man who started telling us about his farm. After that, we went on an adventure with the great Batey Ziplines Adventures. We were greeted at a very pretty little house where they talked to us about safety and handing over equipment. Then, a walk toward the mountain. The rst place we visited was a cave that was a bit small but was quite refreshingly cool after all the walking we did. Then we went to a cabin where we were greeted with fresh fruit and they put our zipline equipment on us. We did eight different ones, and our guides taught us tricks to make the experience even more fun. The views were amazing and the most wonderful thing was that it did not end there. My rst experience descending a rappelling rope came later, and it was amazing. Then we went to the Tanamá River where we refreshed ourselves in a cold water dip. We also went on a suspension bridge that I just loved, especially since below it was a very pretty Puerto Rican ag. Finally, we left the river and a bus fetched us and that really was an extreme ride. Upon arrival, we spent time with everyone and went out to eat. Honestly, being in Utuado, in the Tanamá River is one of the most interesting and entertaining experiences Puerto Rico has, and you should know that. U
na caminata de 45 minutos, a través de un área montañosa, nos llevó a una cueva con sobre 100 pies de profundidad para observar un espectáculo natural impresionante: un desfile de murciélagos. Atrás quedó el pensamiento de que se enredan en el cabello de las personas luego de pasar una noche rodeada de estos mamíferos. El espectáculo comenzó alrededor de las 6:30 de la tarde cuando el sol comenzó a ocultarse y los primeros murciélagos comenzaron a salir de la cueva. En ese momento se empezó a sentir una brisa un poco fría salir de la abertura. Antes de que anocheciera, tuvimos la suerte de poder observar una boa en proceso de cacería. La boa estaba suspendida en unas ramas pegadas a una de las paredes de la abertura de la cueva esperando el momento adecuado para alimentarse. Un espectáculo de la naturaleza emocionante el poder ver, y sentir, cientos de murciélagos volar alrededor de ti mientras salen a alimentarse. Fue una experiencia emocionante estar rodeada de murciélagos mientras disfrutábamos de una noche increíble en contacto con la naturaleza y todos los sonidos que producen todas las especies que habitan allí. Bat Parade By Edmarie Rodriguez-Ramos A 45 minute walk through a hilly area took us to a cave about 100 feet deep to observe an impressive natural spectacle: a bat parade. After a night surrounded by these mammals, gone was the thought that bats get tangled in one's hair. The show started around 6:30 in the evening, when the sun began to set and the ď€ rst bats began to emerge from the cave. At that time we began to feel a slight cold breeze coming from the opening. Before nightfall, we were lucky enough to watch a boa on the hunt. The boa was suspended from some branches attached to one of the walls at the opening of the cave, waiting for the right moment to feed itself. A spectacle of nature exciting to behold, and to feel, hundreds of bats ying around you while they come out to feed. It was a thrilling experience to be surrounded by bats while enjoying an incredible evening in touch with nature and the sounds produced by all the species that live there. El buceo es una de las experiencias más increíbles – un mundo totalmente diferente. En el buceo experimentas el poder llegar a una vida misteriosa y llena de encantos en cuanto a diversidad de especies marinos. Ahora imagínate haciendo esta actividad en cuevas. Cuando me invitaron a Isabela para vivir la aventura de cavernas submarinas me remonté a mi niñez y no lo pensé, el descubrir este inusual paraíso bajo el agua que es inimaginable. Luego de llegar a la playa y montar el equipo necesario, comenzó la travesía. A solo 30 pies de profundidad comienzas a disfrutar de las fabulosas vistas de arrecifes, corales, vida marina y arena blanca. Al llegar a la entrada de las cavernas es ahí donde nos sumergimos a un mundo de ensueño. El tiempo se detiene mientras estas sumergido en este maravilloso lugar rodeado de bellezas naturales bajo las profundidades del mar, una experiencia única que tienes que vivir. Diving is one of the most amazing experiences – a totally different world. When diving, you experience being able to reach a mysterious life, full of a delightful diversity of marine species. Now imagine doing this activity in caves. When I was invited to Isabela to experience the adventure of underwater caves I went back to my childhood and did not give a second thought to discovering this unusual underwater paradise that is unimaginable. After arriving at the beach and setting up the necessary equipment the journey began.
