Talk
with our new editor Nuttakitta Nakum (11th Grade)
Once school started, all students’ lives were about to begin again in a higher level. Although it was the beginning of the semester, there were already many activities; for instance, Songkran Day, Teacher’s Day, and, of course, Sports Day! As this is the first issue of the year, it is also my first time being the new editor in-chief. I’m so excited to be in charge of this position. In our newspaper this year, there will be some differences which are quite different from the issue before. After the MAC crew talked, we decided to divide the news into sections so that readers can easily find what interests them. In this first issue, there are six sections. School Events will report on important activities at PRC. The Sports section will show you all about our amazing sport teams and athletes in school. Advice will be a guide for your everyday school-life problems. In Student Spotlight, you can catch up on some of our very own PRC students. In the Travel and Leisure section, you can come and relax with us and we will show you all you can do during your free time. And, finally, we have Games & Comics. After reading all the articles we have provided, you can play some games! Then, at the end, try out some other foreign languages!

A Message from the manager director “…In this development of character, two factors are essential, the training of the mind, and the cultivation of religious and moral ideals.” -Rev. Dr. William Harris
This quote is the clarification that Rev. Dr. William Harris wrote to explain the meaning of The ultimate
aim of education is the development of character, which, to this day, is our school philosophy.
To further interpret the school philosophy, in order to develop character, there are two main factors: the nurturing of the mind as well as religious and ethical cultivation. For more than 87 years, PRC alumni have had their minds instilled with good teachings in the most sacred place of our school, the school chapel. In fact, a person’s mind can be nourished and good teachings can be implemented anywhere, such as in the classroom, on the playground, at the school canteen, at the library, or even outside of school, for example, at home. However, during chapel services, students have a chance to practice meditation, soften their minds with hymns, and listen to sermons that teach them how to live their lives on the basis of righteousness and courage to do good things. This experience is priceless. In accordance with this idea, the school believes that being a good person must begin with a positive attitude, rather than competency. With the right mindset, success will follow. In honor of the 110-year anniversary of the royal renaming of the school this year, the school has organized the project, Our Beloved Chapel. The main purpose of this project is to raise financial support to renovate the PRC Chapel, which has deteriorated over time. The funding will be used to strengthen our chapel’s structure and make it beautiful. Foremost, the renovation will help maintain this sacred place in order to continue our ancestors’ mission of education management from generation to generation. To fulfill the project of Our Beloved Chapel, the school wishes that everyone would participate. You might help by praying for all the committees working on this project, providing information about our school or chapel, helping in each step, buying school souvenirs, or providing additional financial support. Parents and alumni can keep updated on this project through our school website, banners, and posters.
May God bless you and your families.
Dr. Sirinan Sriweraskul Manager-Director “I still remember sitting in chapel as an elementary and high school student and the tremendous impact those services had on my life. The messages that were preached in chapel were great Biblical truths that were applicable to my life in every area.” -Clint Dousay THE PRC NEWS, AUGUST, 1ST ISSUE

When they heard the third and final bell, they all evacuated the building and went to the Petcharat field—the meeting point to gather and present themselves to their class leaders. Afterwards, the leaders in each section recorded the statistics of the safe people and lost people. In previous years, the average time that PRC personnel recorded during practice drills was about 7 minutes. This year, they took less time. The standard time is about 3 minutes. Chiang Mai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation demonstrated to teachers and students what to do in case of the disaster. PRC went along very well with the practice; everyone could cope in case of an emergency.
Teacher Hathaitip Sangmee a-nu-pap said, “This drill is a good campaign because it lets everyone know how to evacuate from the buildings in a proper way. It’s very good to do this campaign.”

PRC Prepares for disaster
By Wansiri Suttipintu, Chayada Kasirawat, and Natchanun Patnitichai (11th Grade)
On June 23, 2016, all teachers and students practiced fire and earthquake disaster drills in order to prepare themselves in case of an emergency. Every year, PRC has the disaster drill with the help of Chiang Mai’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. During the practice, none of the teachers and students were informed when the drill would start, so they had to be ready at any time. When the first bell rang, everyone hid under their desks, which act as shelter to protect us from falling objects. Everyone had to remain calm. When the bell rang for the second time, everyone kept calm and thought for a few minutes about the next step

Students honor teachers on Teacher’s Day By Kajornpong Jee-in and Thanaree Hainak (10th Grade)
On Thursday, June 9, 2016, at The Prince Royal’s College Gymnasium, PRC students prepared for the Teacher’s Day ceremony by arranging flower trays and arrangments for teachers in order to show respect and gratitude. Thai people believe that any field of work requires a teacher; if you respect your teacher, you will be successful. Therefore, we need to have a Teacher’s Day ceremony to express our respect and gratitude to teachers. One day before the Teacher’s Day Ceremony, students helped each other arrange flower trays and decorate boards. The flower trays, which are given to the teachers, have three specific flowers in them. Ixora is a symbol of wit, eggplant flower is a symbol of respect, and wire grass is a symbol of respect and perseverance. During the Teacher’s Day Ceremony, the students bring flower trays and flower cones. Then, they crawl up to their teachers on their knees, heads bowed. After that, the students also recite the Teacher’s Day chant and ask for the teachers’ blessings for their studies. PRC students really enjoy Teacher’s Day, because it is a chance
PREM says farewell To Seniors By Nuttakiita Nakum and
Pailin Meakee (11th Grade)
On Friday, April 9, 2016, PREM students celebrated their last farewell party in their high-school life. This year’s senior farewell party was held at the high-school campus of The Prince Royal’s College. As it was the last chance for PREM to do activities in school together, they made that night to be the most memorable night. Flowers, lights, chairs, and tables were perfectly matched. Moreover, this party was separated into many zones: register zone, food zone, stage zone, and, of course, photo zone, which was very popular. Everything that night was decorated in the theme of “Vintage.”
to show our respect and to thank our beloved teachers. Students competed to see who could create the best decorations. However, the main point was not to be the winner, but, instead, it is to enjoy showing respect to teachers. The ceremony was full of geniality; lots of students came and joined. The most impressive thing about the celebration was the number of alumni who came to visit their old teachers and show their appreciation and respect. This shows that wherever we are, even after we graduate, gratitude is the most important character of good students.
Chakrit Samakthai, a PRC student, said, “This is a great and fun activity during which we can appreciate teachers. In fact, being good students is our role, which we should do every day. I want Teacher’s Day to be held every year. I would like to thank all of the teachers who always take care of me, teach me lessons, and train me to be a good person. Also, I would like to say sorry for everything I have done wrong. I promise that I will use the knowledge that you have taught me to improve myself and be a good person in society.”
Teacher Kanyakon Soymano said, “I feel good when the students bring flower trays to me and pay respect. It indicates students’ intentions and respect. It is a holy tradition, so students should be sincere when preparing flowers for arranging a tray because each kind of flower has a different meaning. Every field of work will have a teacher. Therefore, students need to have a Teacher’s Day ceremony to respect the teachers. The students who respect their teachers, will receive good things in their lives and be pleased. So, I think this tradition is a good tradition and it should be continued.”

Students show respect to their beloved teachers
Electric lights were shining bright as music played. It meant a good time was about to begin. “I really appreciated seeing all of my friends again although we had just graduated from the school not so long ago; however, this farewell party made me feel like even though friends will be parted to find their own life, friendship from PRC will always stay the same forever,” said Yodsada Suthapuk, a PREM alumni. Since all good things come to an end, everyone had to say goodbye at the end of the night. The party was filled with the feeling of love and sadness at the same time. Certainly, they were quite sure that this party would recall all the memories they had made together on that day and it will be one of the most special days in their life.

Students get colorful on Sports Day By Chalitphakorn Prommin and Wanwalat Somboonchai (11th Grade)

On July 14-15, 2016, teachers, students, alumni, and staff of The Prince Royal’s College gathered together as one to join Sports Day. Students were given a great chance to show their dedications and all the abilities they have for this special day. Various activities including parading, song chanting, cheerleading, and sport competitions such as sprinting, long jumping, running, and spear throwing were opened up for students to display their particular talents. Throughout the coming of Sports Day, students practiced a lot to prepare by putting their sportsmanship in every particular responsibility they were involved in. The 11th-grade students, in particular, have been given the challenging duty to be in charge of the arrangement of Sports Day for almost two months. It was an opportunity for
them to show their potential as leaders and their ability to work together as a big team. Many students expected to win from their hard work, like one of the students from grade 11, Witchayanee Insrikrai, who said, “At first, I wanted my color to win very badly, but, after working with my friends, I think winning is just extra. We just need to do our best, and whatever the result is, we will be proud of it. I think the most important thing is that we help each other; these things will make us skilled-workers.” The results of everyone’s hard work are in. Pink is the winner for the entire sports competition, and Red is the winner of crowd cheering and Red cheerleaders also won first-place. Sports Day would never happen if all the students and teachers were not there to participate in this big school event.

Sports Day preparation
By Om Sukbunpant and Caleb Joshua Avilez (11th Grade) Sports Day is the day of sport competition among PRC students. All M.5 students have a duty. All the color leaders said that it was a very good opportunity for them to be in this position because they got to learn many skills. The biggest problem is about money; they have a limited budget, so that means they need to be cautious of what they are going to buy—is it worth it or not? Another problem is the people involved. Some of the colors need more students to be involved than other colors. Unfortunately, the week after Sports Day, the M.5 students take exams, and many people have to study outside, so the leaders don’t have high expectations for the awards—all of them just want a good memory. Each class has their own color: red, green, blue, yellow, pink, purple, or orange. Knowing the leaders’ expectations and the obstacles that they face is very important. This is because they are responsible for something and don’t really know what is going on in other colors, but they will see everyone’s work on the day of the event.
One of the leaders said, “Sometimes working in big projects is hard, because people from different backgrounds and different habits have to work together, but if we are harmonious, then the result will come out good.” Students must work as a team and practice many skills. There are many obstacles working in a group. For example, many leaders agreed about the budget. They said, “We need to buy what we really need, not what we want.” Still, sometimes, what they need is a bit pricy, too. To take everything into consideration, all of the leaders worked very hard for Sports Day. Even though there were lots of obstacles, they passed through them and didn’t worry too much about anything. They all spent their own time for this project. The only benefit from their hard work? Good memories and a good experience.

By Sasipha Sirikhan (11th Grade) and Natchaya Panthong (10th Grade) Are you a student who has problems taking notes during a lecture? If you are, we have some tips for you that would help you take better notes at school.

How to take notes
Don’t write too many letters To take good notes, you must make your notes easy to read so that you can review quickly, which means you should change some common words into a symbol or your own words that you can easily understand.
Focus on key words This will definitely help you understand the lesson more quickly and save your time. You can find key words by listening to your teachers saying things like, “You need to know this!” Or listen for the words that they repeat again and again.
Use color One thing that can make your notes look interesting is using colors. It can be highlighters, markers, magic markers, or colored pencils. I know you’d prefer colorful notes over black and white.
Do not write everything If some subjects have a lot of content, and then you write everything in your notes, it seems like you are writing another textbook! You don’t want to read a whole textbook, right?

Your weekly progress is also recorded, so you can see how many hours you’ve spent studying as well as the tree-cultivating success rate. We can’t wait to try this thing! Erfahrung in Sankt Peter Ording By Ditharat Kanjanajai (12th Grade)
