AQUATICS

ADULT LAP SWIM: Monday-Friday 7:00-9:00am Monday-Saturday 12:00-1:00pm RECREATION SWIM: Monday-Friday 1:15-3:00pm Saturday 1:15-3:00pm

This block of time is a chance for parents to swim and assist their child in the baby pool, with a lifeguard provided from the pool deck. Parents must be in the pool with the child at all times. This is not a class, but a dedicated time where young children can become adjusted to the water in a more relaxed atmosphere. SWIM DIAPERS ARE MANDATORY for non potty-trained children. Location: Herkner Pool

Age 12-15 This hands-on training for age 12-15 year olds will provide real job experience in Redwood City’s Aquatics Programs. Applicants must have prior swim experience and have an interest in working with young children. Throughout the summer you will… • Work with the Redwood City Lifeguard team • Gain valuable Lifeguard Experience • Learn about rescue equipment, techniques & water safety • Assist with Open Swim • Assist in Pool Maintenance & Facility Cleaning • Have Fun! The program will be broken up into (3) two-week sessions. Junior Lifeguards will receive a staff T-Shirt. Junior Lifeguards must provide their own swimsuit; girls should wear a solid blue or black athletic one-piece, and boys should wear blue or black swim trunks. SUMMER SWIM LEAGUE 2017

(West Bay Swim League)

Ages: 5-18 Skill level: Novice* - Advanced Swim team practices are Monday through Friday evenings at Herkner Pool with competitive swim meets once a week. Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly strokes will be taught along with diving, flip turns and swimming sportsmanship.

* Novice swimmers must be able to swim one lap without stopping prior to joining the team. Our team is a good introduction to competitive swimming. Age 8-15 This class replicates weight-bearing exercises in the nonweight-bearing environment of a deep water pool. This is a high-intensity, low-impact workout. Age 16+ The YMCA Lifeguarding course helps you develop skills and experiences that will be valued by colleges and future employers. Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be certified in Lifeguarding, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and CPR/AED for Lifeguards. To participate, you must be at least 16 years old and complete a swim test prior to taking this course. Sequoia YMCA has partnered with the City of Redwood City to allow access to the newly renovated 6 lane, 25 yard warm pool at Hoover Park Come join us for recreational swim, lap swim, swim team or wetball. There is also a children’s wading pool for the kids.

SUMMER SWIM AT HOOVER IS OPERATED BY THE SEQUOIA YMCA

WET BALL (BEGINNER WATER POLO)

Age 8-15 Wet ball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Participants will learn the fundamentals of water polo from experienced YMCA coaches. Practices will focus on team dynamics, ball handling skills, and swimming and treading endurance.
