Santa is inviting kids to a very dierent kind of holiday party – Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island. During the park’s Holiday Splash, which takes place weekends and select dates from November 28, 2014 through January 4, 2015, Santa is giving surf lessons to kids on the Boogie Bahn. Kids can also make holiday ornaments, swim in an artificial snow storm, and enjoy a sprinkle of holiday cheer at the new Holiday Splash event at Schlitterbahn Indoor Waterpark on Galveston Island, Texas. Here’s a list of the activities – in addition to all the rides at Schlitterbahn’s indoor waterpark: Surfing with Santa: Santa will hop

on a bodyboard and surfs the wave to show o his tricks, then he helps little ones learn to surf in a brief one-on-one lesson. Kids have the opportunity to meet Santa in this unique way four times a day through Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Ornament Time: Schlitterbahn’s Ornament Factory gives kids a break from the heated indoor waterpark fun by putting their creative skills to work. Children make holiday ornaments at the park and enter them in an Instagram contest for a chance to win a 2015 season pass. Snow in the Gulf? While snow is pretty rare in Galveston, guests at Holiday Splash will have a chance

each day to surf or ride the tidal waves of the Torrent River under artificial snow showers. The park is decked with boughs of garland, lights and holiday décor, and a friendly snowman and happy reindeer greet children all day. Guests also have the option to buy the discounted Holiday Grill & Thrill package online to add an all-you-can-eat catered picnic lunch to their day for just a few dollars more than the admission price. It’s the Coolest Hottest time in Galveston this Holiday season. Best prices for tickets are available online. Visit http://www. schlitterbahn.com/galveston for more details.

TUTS UNDERGROUND prese presents STRIKING 12, Dec. 17 - Dec. 23, at the Hobb Center - Zilke Hobby H ll Hall On New Year’s Eve, an over-worked and under-inspired single guy who’s had enough of holiday cheer makes a resolution: to stay home and go to bed early. On another New Year’s Eve, a continent away – and more than a century earlier – Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Match Girl tries

unsuccessfully to sell her matches in the snow. The two stories are brought together when a young woman selling special “fullspectrum holiday light bulbs” to combat Seasonal Aective Disorder shows up at the grumpy man’s door. Though the man (who probably could use the bulbs) seems to enjoy the young woman’s company, he sends her away. It’s not until he reads “The Little

Match Girl” that he is finally pulled out of his funk. All of this unfolds through a tuneful pop/ rock/jazz score that retains the vibrant style of its original performers: the celebrated band, GrooveLily. Through simple, unpretentious theater created through the voices and instruments of the performers, Striking 12 reminds us that “the world looks like new… on the first day of the year.” Striking 12 is a

perfect alternative to standard holiday fare while still being familyfriendly.

Whether you’re drawn to the live music , the smoky smell of the barbeque, or a glimpse of the twelve-foot tall glittering armadillo that guards the place, it’s not a spot you want to miss. Mounted longhorns and vintage ranch regalia line the walls from bull head to boot toe, while leather saddle stools encircle the threesided bar that anchors the dance floor. A hotspot for celebrations ranging from the Big 12 to the Big Day, The Armadillo Palace welcomes patrons and parties of every kind. Grab your partners and head on down to Houston’s dedicated home for live Texas swing and shenanigans.

Richmond Arms is a lively, oldfashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, “Lots of British nationals” feel at home in this “authentic” Briargrove area pub that some claim is the closest thing to England “this side of the big pond”; “wood beams and red accents” and a “friendly sta” greet “serious game fans”, who come for the “great beer selection” and pub grub, plus darts and regular trivia nights.
