Silver Star 5103 strikes the rare balance of outstanding phenotype coupled with memorable genetic merit. The $45,000 high selling bull of the 2016 Denver Bull Sale offers an outcross pedigree for most with impeccable feet and leg structure, a striking look of quality from the side and the ability to sire progeny that fit the needs of the registered and commercial cattlemen alike, as is evident in his daughter, North Camp Miss Emulous 7222, that will be in our string in Denver alongside of her sire. The Silver Star Syndicate is made up of breeders across Canada and the United States and his genetics work around the globe. Silver Star’s maternal line can be traced back to the first Jilt cow Bob Laflin purchased in 1956 and he is undoubtedly one of, if not the best bull ever raised in the Laflin family’s 118-year history being involved in the Angus breed. Join us today in taking this exciting sire to the next level! We will have Silver Star and North Camp Miss Emulous 7222 in Denver to show and display throughout the show and sale. Ranks in the top 25% or better for WW, YW, Doc, HP, CEM, Marb, RE, $F, $G, $QG and $B with a CED of +9 and a moderate BW EPD of +1.2. Selling Choice of Spring or Fall Possession and 1/3 semen interest. Video can be viewed at: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q5KKLpaPw70

This is one flat good show heifer. Flawless maybe an extreme term, however, Joe says she is as close as they have raised. Her structural form and skeletal dimension lay the framework for added shape and power, while being bold sprung and deep ribbed. Her feminine look and well-balanced style adds value to this complete young prospect. The intermediate division is getting more and more popular and this female can hold her own with the best of them. The sire of Lots 14 and 15, Colburn Primo 5153, is a product of one of Style’s most decorated daughters and the amazing Dameron First Class while his maternal grandam is Silveiras famous donor, Saras Dream. With the recent passing of the legendary donor and multi-million-dollar producer of champions, EXG Saras Dream S609 R3, the direct daughters have increased in value beyond their already lofty evaluations. In addition to 1342 and her numerous sisters that include the Dam of Colburn Primo, a recent example of this is Silveiras Saras Dream 6521, whose 1⁄2 interest commanded $127,000.00 in the 2017 Silveira Bros. Sale selected by Lookout Ridge, Lanas & David Smith Longmont, CO; Kemp Family Livestock ON, CN; and Greenbrae Angus San Jose, CA. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek purchased Silveiras Saras Dream 1342 back in 2014. She has been an extremely easy keeper and stays in great body condition with minimal effort. At the time of purchase, she had a heifer calf at her side that won her class the following year at the 2015 WNAF in Reno. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek have flushed (conventional) her four times to date and she averages over 16 embryos per flush with a high of 22. Their business plan was to try and create a high-quality show animal with EPD values all in the top 20%. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek knew that if they could create something that was rock solid in the show ring and have a high commercial value, they would be on to something that would be special. So far the plan has worked really well for them. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek have flushed her to bulls like AAR Ten X 7008 S A and Baldridge Colonel. The progeny have continued to be great looking and perform well in the show ring. The EPD values continue to be in the top 25% for traits like BW, WW, YW and $B. The great thing they have found about 1342 is she has proven that her genetics are so solid that she can take any rugged looking commercial bull and the calf crop will be something showy. Her Ten X bull calves have sold above sale average in Silveiras 2017 Fall Bull Sale. In the
20

2017 Red Bluff Bull Sale, her bull calf was rated at 100 and was the highest $B bull in the sale. He was the fifth highest selling bull at the sale. Other progeny include the second highest seller in the 2016 California Angus Days Sale and the top selling Spring Calving Heifer in the 2016 Western States Angus Female Sale. So here’s the good news about Silveiras Saras Dream 1342. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek haven’t even tapped into her total show potential. Her flushmate, Sara’s Dream 1339, created Primo, this cow has the same possibility. Just think what her progeny will look like once she is flushed to a show bull. Their final plans for this cow are to step up and get showy with her. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek are flushing her to the likes of Insight and Dameron Best in Show. These bulls need no introduction and will bring the final piece together with 1342 that will equate to a lot of purple and posing for pictures. Rusher’s 4R and Kennedy Juranek are offering full interest and full possession after retaining a conventional flush in February 2018. The delivery will be after the February 2018 flush at the buyer expense. Sells open.

PICK OF ET HEIFERS Bob is truly offering his best with this choice of 15 E.T. heifer calves that will result from 5 different matings out of three of XL Angus’s top donor females. All 15 of these heifer calves are due in April 2018 and the choice will be made following the receipt of 50K test results and EPD update, thus eliminating any doubt that you are making the most valuable selection. Selling buyer’s pick from the following matings. The dam of the six heifer calves that will result from the 23A and 23B matings, VAR Blackcap 0390, is the foundation XL Angus Blackcap. Blackcap 0390 is a powerful and proven daughter of the growth and CW sire, Upward and stems from the $220,000 valued Deer Valley Farm and Vintage Angus donor, New Design 4212. Blackcap 4212 records a BR 2@91, a WR 2@113 and a YR 1@102 while carrying an ultrasound REA ratio 3@105. Progeny from the dam of Blackcap 0390 includes: Upfront 0392, the one-time Accelerated Genetics roster member; Empire 3037, the Vintage Angus and Green Valley Cattle sire; and Blackcap 1059, the dam of the $175,000 Blackcap 3091 selected by Deer Valley Farm and Edisto Pines Farm in the 2014 Big Event. The $185,000 2/3 interest sire of the three heifer calves to result from the Lot 23A mating, MGR Treasure is arguably the most exciting sire to sell in 2016 and is truly a rare and valuable “Genetic Treasure.” Only once in several years does an individual come along with Treasure’s blend of genetic predictions in tandem with near flawless phenotype and structure. Treasure can take your breeding program to the next level with many traits in the top 1% of the breed without sacrificing sheath, scrotal or foot quality. His EPD script reflects a genomic profile with scores of 1 for WW and YW, 4 for CE, BW and CW and 8 for MARB and TEND plus incredible individual performance that Includes a 131 IMF ratio. The sire of the three heifers to result from the 23B mating, TEX Playbook 5437, is a son of Basin Payweight 1682 and out of a Blackcap donor dam Rita 1C43. His combination of an impeccable phenotype and powerful numbers across the board are hard to argue with. The donor dam of Playbook is the direct daughter of the former featured Three Trees Ranch
V A R BLACKCAP 0390 Dam of Lots 23A & 23B
XL ANGUS donor program, 9M26 sired by the proven REA leader Summitcrest Complete. His Grandam is the direct daughter of the $3 million producer herd and sire maker Rita 5F56 and maternal siblings include: the $50,000 Springfield and Genex sire, Rito 9M25 and the $140,000 Riverbend Ranch donor Rita 9Q15. The dam of the six heifer calves that will result from the 23C and 23D matings, Deer Valley Rita 2152, Rita 2152 is a low-birth female from the heart of the XL Angus donor program and she blends the Pathfinder Sire, Impression with the $300,000 Deer Valley Farm CED leader, Objective 2345. The dam of 2152 records a BR 2@91, a WR 2@109 and a YR 1@103 while showing ultrasound ratios IMF 173@107 and REA 173@100 with 86 daughters maintaining a combined WR 194@100. Maternal siblings to 2152 include: the calvingease and MB leader, Progress; Rita 5309, the $27,500 half interest selection of HillHouse Angus in the 2015 Deer Valley Sale; Rita 6263, the $22,000 selection of Pollard Farms in the 2016 Deer Valley Sale; Rita 1629, the $20,000 selection of Stonewall Ridge Farm and Pleasant Valley Farm in the 2016 Deer Valley Sale; Rita 5414, the $20,000 female at Pleasant Valley Farm selected in the 2015 Focused on the Future Sale; Rita 0308, the dam of the proven growth sire Discovery featured in the Vintage Angus Ranch program; Rita 0307, the now-deceased Edisto Pines Farm and Deer Valley Farm donor; Rita 0274, the dam of the $300,000 valued Select Sires roster member, All In; and Rita 1816, the foundation Rita in the Cannon Ridge Ranch program. The sire of the three heifers to result from the Lot 23C mating, Baldridge Colonel, is a once-in-alifetime, industry changing bull. This record setting $580,000 bull brings a complete, outside the box pedigree to the table loaded with a never seen before muscle pattern. The promising part of this elite sire, in part, is due to his mother who will go down in history as one of the top Angus producers ever, Baldridge Isabel Y69. His deceased sire opens the book up for EPD excellence across the board with outcross mating flexibility. Sort his major EPD traits and you will be amazed at what little shows up for competition. Nearly any cow herd could use the muscle and body depth offered by this bull. Where he sets himself apart from most heavy muscled bulls is his athletic stride and comfort in his skeleton. Foot soundness and correct shape and depth at his foundation will carry this bull’s massive muscle with ease. The breed is yearning for the combination of power, pedigree and across the board EPD excellence that Colonel has to offer. The $110,000 sire of the three heifers to result from the Lot 23D mating, Resource, is the among the most popular sires in the Genex lineup due to his ability to sire growth, carcass merit and maternal ability in a desirable package. Resource brings to the table the basics of efficiency

This elite mating offers a rare combination of elite calving ease and growth not to mention impressive carcass merit and an outcross pedigree with tons of mating options for the resulting heifer calf. Due fall 2018. The donor dam of this heifer pregnancy, M A R Treasure 1601 came to Malek Angus as a $10,000 pregnancy and has developed into a top donor with a numerical profile that is truly among the breed’s elite, ranking in the top 1% for CW, RE, $F and $B; top 2% for YW, top 5% for WW, top 10% for SC and $G; top 15% for Milk; and top 20% for $W. Two pregnancies from 1601 have sold to Cigar City in Florida and Kenny Armstrong of Tennessee. The $90,000 valued dam of 1601, Treasure 003, who is a maternal sister to the Select Sires feature TCA Accruel 260, produced a flush from that was an $18,000 feature in last year’s Evan’s Sale going to Lazy F Cattle Company where a pregnancy from her sold for $11,500 to Hillhouse Angus.

Treasure 003 has 3 natural progeny that ratio 96 for birth and 118 for weaning with 2 at 113 for yearling weight. The sire of this heifer pregnancy, Spring Cove Reno 4021, is a wide-based, stout made Broken Bow son, out of a tremendous 702 daughter who is double bred to Right Time 338. His first calves came easy and are exhibiting added muscle and top like their sire. Reno progeny are dense bodied, easy fleshing cattle that should thrive in harsh environments. With his balanced EPDs with economic indexes at the top of the breed (19 of the 25 reported traits in the top 25% or better), Reno compliments Treasure 1601 to yield unlimited value in the resulting heifer calf from this mating. This mating brings potential for added calving ease with unmatched growth and ribeye. If the resulting progeny were on the ground now, she would be built in with an EPD profile that reads out of this world.

Until their dispersion in May 2010, 414 served as the cornerstone donor for J&J Cattle Company and since that time she has continued to add to her legacy in the Price and Shultz programs. The top selling embryos from 414 in sales across the country are too numerous to mention but have placed progeny of 414 in top herds and multiple breeds. There has not been a more diverse and dominate donor than Queen 414 as is evident in her progeny that exhibit the unparalleled quality and consistency 414 produces when mated to multiple sires from multiple breeds. We are pleased to have Queen 414 embryos back in the Denim and Diamonds Sale and this is a tremendous opportunity to incorporate the genetics of one of the top producing donors of any breed. The proven donor dam of Lots 31A and 31B is an impeccably structured, big hipped, moderate framed donor that sold for $25,000 to the partnership of Burns Angus, Wiederstein Pure Angus and Silverado Farms LLC in the 2015 Denim and Diamonds Sale before being selected by Dan Pike from the 2017 Denim and Diamonds Sale. 0927 is a direct daughter of the famed 2003 Denver Champion Female, Greens Princess 1012. 0927 genetics commanded over $48,000 in sales at the 2014 NWSS and $42,650 in the 2016 Denim and Diamonds sale with two daughters selling to Dylan Denny and Billy Estrada for an impressive average of $14,375, a flush selling to Stehr Land and Cattle for $7,000 and embryos selling for $1300 and $1000 each to Bruce Kiesewetter, K2K Angus and Traci Coltrane respectively. In the 2017 Denim and Diamonds sale, the 0927 added another $21,000 to that total. 0927’s famous dam, Greens Princess 1012, sold in the 2004 Bases Loaded Sale in Denver for $200,000 for half interest and was named ROV Dam of the Year (Embryo Transplant) for that same season. 1012 was the 2003 National Western Stock Show Grand Champion Angus Female, the 2003 Western National Angus Futurity Champion Cow/Calf and the 2003 NAILE Reserve Champion Cow/Calf. With several progeny among the top sellers in Express Ranches Sales, Princess 1012 has rapidly become one of the top income generating females in the nation’s largest seed stock producer. The sire of the Lot 31A mating, Skyfall 2812, is very unique with unmatched body, substance, bone, hip and hair while having a
67-lb. actual birth weight. Skyfall already has a valuation of $250,000 and the interest in his progeny has been overwhelming. The sire of Lot 31B, Plainview Lutton E102, “Lut”, has been deceased since 2011, but that has not stopped his progeny from continuing to make waves and drive the price of his semen up. The proven donor dam of this mating was first selected as the $23,000 top selling bred cow from the 2011 Boyd sale by Express Ranches and Lisonbee Angus before Lee Cattle Company selected her from the 2014 Express Ranches Big Event Sale. Everelda Entense 901 is a full sister to the $51,000 Ellingson herd sire, Boyd Cowboy 908. Everelda Entense 901 is a direct daughter of the famed BT Everelda Entense 43J, considered one of the best daughters of Right Time in history. 901 stems from a family that has generated millions in progeny sales, backed by the legendary Sitz Everelda Entense 1905, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest females in the history of the breed. “First Rate” semen has become a traditional part of the Denim and Diamonds offering and his progeny continue to remain relevant. For those who never saw him, First Rate was a structurally correct bull with tons of red meat and volume from end to end. He posted an excellent individual performance of 797 lbs. adjusted 205 and a 1,546 lbs. adjusted yearling weight. He was a member of the 2007 National Western Grand Champion Pen of Bulls for Express Ranches where he was definitely a crowd favorite. He is most famously known as the sire of the breed legend and Triple Crown Winning sire of champions, Dameron First Class.

Sale Manager’s comments… Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen, Welcome to the 16th Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our ninth consecutive year “On the Hill” in Denver. This unique event is the result of the continued collective efforts of forward-thinking Angus seedstock producers. The breeders represented in the Denim and Diamonds Sale have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of the live offering. Phenotypically, the 2018 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present from Lot 1 through Lot 39. As the name suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. The 2018 Denim and Diamonds Sale combines the influence of the breed’s freshest, most valuable, and proven performance families with the deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancies feature cutting-edge genetics that are progeny of some of the most popular champions, herd sires and donors in the industry. The herd sire candidates, open show and donor prospects, bred heifers and the flush lots are from proven genetics and donors that are second to none. You will find the influence of the breed’s most proven and influential sires, both in and out of the show ring, are especially strong in this offering. The focus of this sale remains on quality, and you will find that, like a diamond, each lot is distinctive in its own way. Please evaluate your own situation and your breeding goals, and Thursday, January 11 join us at 2:00 p.m. following the NWSS Junior Angus Show in Expo Hall 1 to view the cattle and enjoy food and refreshments, and then at 5:00 p.m. in the National Western Beef Palace Auction Arena to take advantage of the knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Whether you are seeking your next herd sire, donor dam or your next show-ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering. If I can be of assistance in any way, please let me know. Sincerely, Matt Sims Matt C. Sims Auction Inc.
